Went to an art showing at Top Hat Collective and had an incredible experience! Even if you don't have tattoos, it's cool to see the kind of art collective experience they are cultivating. They regularly post tattoo events and upcoming exhibits on their instagram. If you are a local artist, be sure to keep an eye out for showcases that you might be able to present your work in! They have different themes each time. My husband and I decided to purchase this awesome piece of art from a local artist himself, Adam Wentworth. We saw this piece from a previous art show "Words to Wonder" during the Star Wars "May the 4th Be With You" showing and totally loved it. The artist himself was there and we got to watch him live paint a Star Wars themed painting. The collection of art is from different artists and most are able to be purchased if interested. If you are into unique pieces of art, definitely check out one of the shows! As for the tattoos, I personally have not gotten one from them but from looking at the work as well as interacting with staff, the artists are skilled and professional. I had Brenna do my 2nd piece this week 2/25/23 at the Fresno Tattoo Expo. Where is the 10 stars button because she totally deserves it! Also everyone at their booth was shower friend so I imagine they have a similar disposition at their shop. I also met the owner and his wife. Shower friendly people. Madii is hands-down the best piercer in town. She knows what she's talking about, is a genuinely nice person and she has a beautiful selection of jewelry! Madii did my lobe piercings a few months ago and I recently made the mistake of going to another piercer in town who did a terrible job on my lobes (lesson learned). I came to Madii and she fixed it without a problem! I'm planning on having a few more piercings in the future once my current piercings heal up. Overall, this shop is awesome! I was immediately greeted and felt comfortable, the Piercing apprentice Caty made me feel so comfortable and listened to what I was wanting to get. She set me up to meet Andrew, who specializes in traditional/neotraditional. He is so awesome! Very friendly and chill, which is super important because this is the person who is going to leave a permanent mark on my body and we are gonna have to spend a few hours together. Wow, I have a found the best shop for piercings and tattoos in Bakersfield! So clean and professional! Maddie was incredible -- calm, soothing and gave very detailed information about the entire process. She explained everything before she did it and made sure any questions or concerns were answered prior to marking me. I had my nose re-pierced and my daughter had a second nose piercing placed. The jewelry is gorgeous, a titanium post with a disk and no threads. No more worries about my stud falling out when I sleep or getting pulled out easily when snagged on my hair or clothing! Even though my piercing went through old scar tissue, it was a much better experience than previous piercings at other shops. It's been a week and both my daughter and I have healed beautifully so far. No infection, minimal scabbing and drainage. Maddie provided a detailed pamphlet with jewelry info (lifetime warranties!) and aftercare instructions. Can't wait for my next piercing with her! read more

My daughter has been hot and cold about getting her ears pieced for about a year now. I knew we would do it at an actual piercing shop because my husband's college roommate had been a licensed piecer and had schooled us in the ills of the guns. We had a rare afternoon out together just us where we did pedicures, shopping, and lunch so I asked her if she wanted to finally do it because without the three brothers around it would be a good time for it. It was kind of an afternoon long talk and finally after lunch I told her that the place friends had recommended to us was on the way home and we could drive by and see if she felt brave enough. She decided she was and we walked in. We stood in the dark lobby with two other groups for 15min, her nerves growing at all the signs saying minors were not allowed. Then the piecer came out and acknowledged the other two groups (one of which obviously had minors, albeit slightly older ones) and dismissively said, "I don't do them that small." We got about two feet out the door and all the effort she put into being brave came spilling out in tears. I felt extremely disappointed too after hearing this place was kid friendly from so many people when it obviously was not. I thought her resolve had weakened, but she said she still wanted to do it so I got on Yelp and found "Piercings By Madii" in the top rated piercers for our area. I called and found I needed a form of identification, but other than that, she was fine with piercing a 10-year-old. So we ran home and got her birth certificate and then headed over. Even the reception at the door when we walked into Top Hat Art Collective really helped me know I had found the right place because it felt like the entire shop erupted in cheers of yays and awesomes when I explained she wanted her ears pierced. Madii talked her through picking earrings and her every single movement thereafter and even offered her own personal stuffed bunny, Bubbles, to hold during the procedure. It was overall just a really warm and welcoming experience and what I would expect when someone says a place is "kid friendly".
