My experience here was not that great. I am already not a huge fan of going to the mechanic anyway…read moredue to prior bad experiences, price gauging and up charging. First, the woman that was working the front counter there seemed a bit overwhelmed and over her head. It not only took her a while to get to me, with only one person in front of me, but it took her awhile to check me in.
The waiting area has a lot to be desired. There are a few high top tables and chairs. They have a television, but it was not turned on while I was there. They did have a Keurig, but no other refreshments, including water (At least that I saw). It was not a very comfortable spot or a place that you would want to spend an extended amount of time.
I only came here because I thought that it would be more economical than going to the dealer, but I was definitely wrong. After I received a quote of $500 dollars, I called the dealer and asked them how much it would cost to get the same work done and they quoted me $90 less and would also be replacing the screen. But my truck was already sitting at the Pep Boys, so I decided to keep it there.
The communication I received from this place was horrible. I dropped my truck off on a Monday and was told that they should be able to get to it that night and let me know what the issue was. I never received a phone call from them that night and they finally called me the next evening to tell me that they needed to replace my oil pressure sensor and that he had ordered the part and that it should be ready the following day (Wednesday). I followed up with a call Wednesday afternoon and was told that my truck was in the bay and on the lift, just waiting for the part to come in. I never got a call back providing me an update. I dropped by Thursday afternoon and the woman working the counter did not even acknowledge me and went to the bathroom and did not come out until the phone started ringing.
I then asked the woman the status of my vehicle and told me that she was waiting on the part. When I explained that my truck had been there since Monday and was taking too long, she replied that they were short mechanics. I had to call her out on that excuse and remind her that she just told me that they were waiting on the part. She then changed the excuse to them having difficulty finding the part and having to order it from the dealer. If that was truly the case, that should have been communicated to me.
At this point, I was ready to pull my truck out and go to the dealer. But I decided to give them one more day, instead of having to start the process over again.
I finally picked my car up on that Friday and it was a disaster. First, they lost my ticket and I had to wait while they tried to find it. They eventually just ended up doing a new ticket. A guy, who I believe to be the manager, took charge and got things going a little better. I wish he was handling it from the start. He told me that my ticket was actually $600+, and not the $500 I was quoted because they forgot to add the diagnostics. As I mentioned, the dealer was going to charge a little over $400, I already knew the issue and it could have easily been diagnosed by reading the code.
Anyway, the guy ended up getting the price back down to $500, which I appreciated, but my quoted price would have been lower because I had a 10% discount. Oh well, tomatoes, tamatoes. My experience with this shop was horrible. The only bright spot being the guy at the end. They really need to do better. I tried staying away from the dealer, but that did not work out. So, I guess I will be going back to them for my next service.
