I have really only used my personal friend for my hair dying experiences. With her unavailable, I made an appointment at Top Cuts. I went in a week early for a consultation and price quote. Paul made me feel so good that I could get what I wanted. I was given a quote of $150-$170 for a full head with highlights, cut, wash, and blowout. I was also reassured I would not need to bleach my hair, which was such good news as it makes my hair fall out. I went today and Paul was extremely happy to see me and super reassuring. I was going for a brighter red highlighted effect, over a darker brown. He was very friendly and informative of everything he was doing, explaining each step along the way, and holding conversation with me. At the end, it came to $165 which was right in the price quote we had talked about. He cut my bangs a little extra for me and made sure I loved the color and cut. He even took me outside with a mirror to show me how bright the color was in the sun. All of the other employees were friendly and helpful too! Most professional salons are closed on Mondays. I decided to give Topcuts a try because all I wanted was a blowout and figured any stylist could do this. I was obviously wrong as I walked out with a frizzy mess. The stylist then told me I should get a brizilian hair wax. I've been getting blowouts weekly for quite some time now and have never had it look like this. I always come out with my hair looking smooth and sleek. It's 2023, during the Pandemic salons were shut down and as they soon re-opened customers like myself would be on the receiving end of Unprofessional ethics from every angle. The service, and extended gratitude and compassion for the clients at this salon is undisturbed. The owner is hands on taking appts, cutting hair and smiling, and her attitude radiates throughout the salon. Paul's patience and hair stylist experience is irreplaceable. I've yet to be disappointed.. my hair is jet black and thick, Paul is able to make my hair blonde in under 2.5 hours and it's done right the first time, every time. Thank you Top Cuts.! read more

O stars!! If you have long hair and want to keep it avoid this place!!! I should have read reviews or I wouldn't be out thousands and having to extensions. I also was charged for long hair which is hysterical cause the chopped it all off. I went for a highlight, root coverage and TRIM. The stylist disappeared for 15 minutes while foiling my head, got soo much dye on my face and disappeared to eat and left me by myself in chair with the dye burning my cheek and I had to get the receptionist who went and got the shampoo girl to clean my cheek and I was left with terrible irritation on my face and a very bad rash that lasted for days. When she started the process I explicitly asked for a trim 3-4 inches at the very most. She asked if I wanted layers and I said NO I have curly hair and do not like layer look. She picked up my hair and cut the 3 inches off before she started dying it so she didn't have to foil that much hair. When the dye was out she was just to even out where she cut before, and without a word picked up my hair and started chopping and cutting short layers in my hair. When I first try to stop her she ignored me and cut more and then I moved and it stopped her she said it had to be like this and continued to cut, instructing the shampoo girl to quickly sweep up hair before I saw. I lost 14 inches of hair and got crappy uneven color because the stylist was more concerned with her phone rather than the client. What's really sad is she took a before picture but no after cause she knew she messed up. No apology, no nothing you're done go pay and she stood over to make sure I paid. I called to complain a few times and almost a month later I'm still waiting for owner or manager to call me back. Now I am left with having to pay for corrective color and extensions to fix the damage they caused. Do NOT go to this salon!!! read more

Honestly they have the worst customer service EVER. The owner is awful and her attitude is worse. Her stylist messed up my hair and she told me IIIIII was in the wrong & told me to leave. Disgusting considering she works in the beauty industry & she should be more considerate of her clients feelings. My stylist retired and I needed to find a new salon. I remembered the salon from Tabatha takes over so I thought I'd give it a try! PROS - clean and bright - friendly and prompt service - I was a walk-in but only had to wait 5-10 min - Very affordable. Women are $35 and up but I was only charged $25 (not sure if that was new client discount or because I have very short hair) - stylist altered my cut based on my feedback and was very polite CONS - No consultation or even discussion with stylist before getting washed - Stylist didn't clean my face/neck of all little hairs which was really irritating - They did not ask me to rebook appt! I would have given 3 1/2 stars but 1/2 stars are not an option. I liked my cut so I'll go back, but I hope the service is a little better next time. read more

I go to this business every 7 to 8 weeks to touch up my roots i.e. get rid of my gray. EVERY time I go home with dye left on my ears, neck, face etc. EVERYTIME! I fi d it very annoying, and each time I mention it to the technician. However, this time was the worst! After I got my touch up, I left the shop and ran errands not realizing there was black in and on my ears and on the back of my neck. I also had black dye on my shirt! When I got home, my son commented about the black dye on my ears. I was embarrassed. and angry. The dye never came out of my shirt...its ruined. However. the real problem is that I sent an email to the owner, Christine that same day. She NEVER even responded to my email. No apology...nothing. Went here yesterday for a quick trim. New to the area, recently relocated from LA. I was seen without an appt. Left the place with my hair soaking wet without even a quick 2 minute blow dry.. I have thick, long, black asian hair. No one at the counter even offered to give me a towel when I was clearly dripping water onto to counter. I paid my 25 dollars and left a 10 dollar tip for etiquette purposes. As for the haircut itself.. hard to mess up a trim, hence the three stars. Will not be returning. read more

Edit: I've been here another time more recently and it was a good experience. I've been sitting here for 45 minutes when they told me 15 minutes when I walked in. I understand if you don't have appointments available for a walk-in, but don't tell me yes and leave me sitting here. This is ridiculous. Then, when I complained they told me to "walk back to get shampooed" no direction whatsoever. Where the hell am I going? I don't live here. Went in for a single process. While sitting in the chair, the stylist came over and adjusted my hair as it was caught between me and the chair. She actually said let's fix this before it does damage. Well, she neglected to tell me it had already done damage. I walked through the salon, I stood at the cashier to pay, I chatted with the stylist and not once did she mention that my shirt was damaged. This salon is amazing!!! I walked in with highlights that were screaming for help. I was with Renee who is super sweet and upbeat. She saved my hair and made sure that I didnt leave looking like a traffic light. I got a cut and wash and left feeling fabulous! Walked in with an already messed up haircut looking to get it fixed. The cut that I had wasn't horrible and was certainly fixable. I asked for angles and some layers but walked out with a mullet. My hair was already pretty short, an inch or so past my shoulders but now it's above them. I never wanted to take any length off since I'm trying to grow it out. All I wanted was angles and layers. It's just hair and it will grow back, but now I look like an idiot and will have to wear my hair up for the next 2 months for it to grow out and look decent. New to the neighborhood, I thought this place was nice and friendly. I gave it two stars because my daughter did an umbrae on her hair about a year ago and it was done beautifully. She wanted a new color, so she went and again beautifully done, only that is lasted about 10 days for 180.00. So I called today, two weeks after the hair was done to ask if this was expected and the receptionist was very polite and told me that she doesn't know the answer but will find out. She asked a gentleman who I believed was the person that did my daughter's hair, and his response was, that color needs to touch up every 3 to 4 weeks and that it's natural to start fading. I felt it was a hefty price tag for 10 days and customers should be informed of this. Since it's not 3 to 4 weeks, and the color completely faded in 10 days.. At least an apology was warranted and please inform your patrons. read more

I live in Commack and I have to say Top Cuts is worth the 40 minute drive! The front desk is very accommodating and my stylist Paul never fails to deliver a fantastic cut and color job. The owner is also very involved in charity, particularly when it comes to giving back to those affected by Breast Cancer.
