Chris was great, he explained what he was planning to do and what he thought the problem was, and sure enough, fixed it right away. I have only great words and recommendations for this Plumbing and heating company.... I have used them on an off for over 18 years. They are the best you can get in Jersey City!

After several horrible experiences with a substandard plumbing company (see my other review), I…read morehave used 5 times now after a friend's recommendation. I cannot speak more highly of Ariel or the company itself. Any issue with my heat (and it is a horrible unit), and I had a technician out here within 2 hours EVERY time. They took calls at 6a on a Sunday... they took calls late at night... the important thing was always my comfort and the safety of my family (I have a small baby), especially in this recent cold weather. Again, plumbers have a very poor reputation in the city for a good reason. This is a company with top-level customer service, much more competitive prices, and an owner who makes his employees (even seasoned ones) train annually in order to be aware of new technologies, better methods, etc. In short, this company exceeds expectations, and I'm a customer for life.

I had a really small leak from my kitchen sink. I thought it was because the contractor who…read moreinstalled my sink years ago had not properly sealed around the joint between the drain and the sink. It only dripped occasionally so I had put off addressing it for years. I had previously tried to schedule another plumbing company, but that company's price schedule included a mandatory hour of travel time and a minimum one hour for work, so it would have cost me almost $400 to have a plumber walk in my door. A friend recommending IMP Plumbing which she said her building had used for various plumbing projects. It was super simple to reach someone in the office and the base rate was $180 per hour. There was no charge for travel time (at least not for work in mid-Manhattan -- don't know if that would change if the work were somewhere else). I was not in a hurry for the work and my building required a COI, so I scheduled a date about 2 weeks out. My only quibble is that because the company starts work at 8am and my building only allows work starting at 9am, I agreed to be scheduled as the "second job" of the day. That turned out to mean that the plumber didn't arrive until 1 pm, so I ended up waiting at home all morning. I think it was at around 11:50 am that I called was told that a plumber had just freed up and would be over shortly, but shortly turned out to mean 1 pm. I took off a star for the long wait. The plumber who arrived looked at the sink and said that joint between the old drain mechanism and drain pipe had gotten corroded (in the more than 2 decades since it had been installed) and that he would prefer to install a new drain than reseal the one I had. I agreed to that. As he did the work, he also discovered a small hole in one of the elbow drain pipes. He ended up also replacing both old elbow pipes in the kitchen drain set up. During the visit, he also fixed a small drip in my bathroom sink. Total damage - 1 hour of work plus a few parts. With tax, less than $236 total. I would definitely use this company again.

DESERVES ZERO STARS! I'm renovating a bathroom and setting up new laundry room in my house in…read moreSheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. I shared approved Dept of Buildings plans and supervisor came out for a walk-through and verbally quoted me $20,000, saying as he left he'd write the detailed proposal based on his $20,000 verbal quote. However, when he emailed his proposal the price shot up 92.3% to $38,460.00! I emailed back to get justification, but never received a response to the exorbitant markup from the verbalized quote at my house. I wanted to know why Harris would not honor the $20,00 I was quoted during the site visit? I have been a repeat client of this business paying $1000s at each of their visits to do my plumbing work, and was told that because of this fact, I'd get a slight discount on my renovation proposal for the plumbing aspect. But a 92.3% markup from original quote of $20,000 is extortion, fraud and just bad business practice to say the very least! I found out also that they don't come out and tell you that they charge a discharge/service fee to come out, but $150/per hour of travel time is quietly--not disclosed to customer--added to their bills, yet never disclosed to you upfront. They were coming from the office location in Brownsville and I'm all the way down south on Avenue Z in Sheepshead Bay and they must take the side streets to get to me because commercial vehicles are not permitted on the Belt Parkway. I will stop being a repeat loyal customer to Harris Plumbing and Heating and will not refer them to anyone else ever again. I'll be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau also. Good riddance Harris Plumbing and Heating!
