Tomorrow's World in Boundary Road, Hove was a hub of the community. I worked at Tomorrow's World from 1997 to 1999, but I was a customer from 1989 to 2013!
I used to work on a Friday Nights and it was heaving! Excitement on kids' faces when they got a game or a video/DVD. They'd then scramble for sweets and popcorn before rushing back to their parents car to get home quick!
Adults would get just as excited as the kids - especially if they managed to bag a very new and popular release just as the little "OUT OF STOCK" tag was removed from the display cases - you know what I'm talking about! Hahaha!
In my years working there, 99.9% of the time the customers and staff were all very happy with Tomorrow's World and what it offered to local community.
£3.50 for a new release Overnight Rental is now an absolute SNIP in comparison to the £15.95 "Rental" for new release on iTunes and Amazon Prime etc.
What an absolute shame that "Love Film (Now Amazon Prime)" and "Netflix" contributed to the demise of such an industry, only to massively inflate the costs on movies once the "competition" had been removed.
I for one would love to see the re-emergence of such an industry, purely to be a part of the community and re-ignite that excitement of the EVENT of going to the Video Library.
I would absolutely work for Tomorrow's World for FREE (the odd night here and there) to get this sadly forgotten industry going once again!
