I've eaten in Tomodachi many times and have always loved it: it's by far the best Japanese in Galway. Unfortunately there's a but. We never felt that it was good value for money, at least in terms of quantity, but it wasn't too blatant. However over the last year it's become worse and worse. On our last and sadly final visit we ordered Edamame, pork gyoza, a rainbow roll and a chicken and prawn yakiudon. The gyoza and roll weren't generous but were fine. As for the other dishes... The edamame consisted of a tiny pile of maybe 15 to 20 bean pods. It would have fit easily in my closed palm. The yakiudon had 6 or 7 thumb-tip sized pieces of chicken (I'm including the fatty bits) and 4, FOUR, prawns. I called this to the attention of the person I guessed to be the senior waiter only to have her respond very politely and overly sympathetically, in what I took to be a genuine attempt to mollify us. She apologised for the disappointment and explained about the increasing costs. We're all aware of the crisis but the quantities mentioned above are just flatly insulting. With 1 Asahi, a hot sake and a yuzu tea it came to €110. 10% service charge included and no attempt to address my complaint. €110 for a small, quick meal for two. Sorry Tomodachi, we won't be back at those prices. read more

Oh no! This was the worst ramen I have ever had ! The noodles were spaghetti noodles and there was no flavor! I even asked my server if they could make the kimchi chicken ramen spicier and they said yet. There was no spice present. I also only got 1/2 of an egg. Very tacky. I tried the salmon sushi donut as well and it was so tiny and flavorless. The price was outrageous for the entire meal. Just awful! 0 stars if possible. read more

This restaurant is extremely versatile. They have three different styles of sushi experiences. There is a traditional Japanese seating area where you sit closer to the floor. There is western style seating where you sit in chairs higher off the floor. Then they also have a conveyor belt sushi seating area or a sushi-go-round. So, there's practically something for everyone there. It's also a rather large dining area so you don't feel too cramped. The dining area is decorated right in line with the asian theme and the hostess/waitress was dressing in kimono which went right along with everything else. I thought is a really well put together restaurant. I did also really like the different types of woods that were used in all the fixtures and tables and chairs. Really cool. The menu was quite easy to read and there are a lot of different choices. As a vegetarian, I got the avocado and cucumber rolls and my friends got a few of the rolls with fish in them. We also had miso soup and a bottle of wine to go along with the sushi. All of the sushi came out in or on dishes or wood planks that seemed to be designed for each type of sushi. It was a neat touch and made it so that each sushi was almost a whole experience in itself. As far as taste, well sushi is....well....just plain ole sushi sometimes. My friends that were eating sushi with fish noted that it wasn't anything super special as opposed to if you were to go to a higher end sushi joint with higher quality fish, but it at least filled our stomachs before we headed out for a night at the bars. The sushi was reasonably priced for some items and a little pricey for others. I would say the same for the wines. I prefer the sushi-go-round type sushi places, but as it was later in the evening when we went, the go-round was not on. If you're looking for something a little different from Irish food, head to this restaurant or any of the other nearby restaurants as there is such a variety along the downtown strip. read more

One of Galways hidden gems. The first thing you notice is that they are perched up with a view looking down on Shop Street so try to get a window seat. There is an enclosed traditional Japanese seating area but I've never see it used. Also, the sushi train hasn't been in operation since the covid restrictions were lifted? Regardless the sushi is amazing and you can see it being prepared in the kitchen. There are tempura options and a bento box too. I cant recommend enough and check out the Moshi for dessert! read more

The customer service was fine the ambiance was great it was actually really nice in there but the sushi was bad, way to much rice and the prices were insane for the specialty rolls.The water also smelled like fish and I couldn't drink it at all. read more

Galway has very few Japanese restaurants compared to Dublin, so it was interesting to see one pop up right in the middle of town. It's up a stairs above the Cellar and is very spacious, beautifully decorated with a Japanese style tatami room available in addition to regular tables, which I'd say would be great for hosting a a party. The restaurant is conveyer belt sushi style, similar to the British chain Yo Sushi!, and you get charged for each plate. You can also order from the menu as well. The sushi was not bad, I prefer the simple ones like just salmon or prawn as opposed to all those fancy ones, so it caters both sides here. The food on the menu besides sushi is indeed very limited and quite expensive, although the portions are big. It's mostly fried/ deep fried foods which I'm not a fan of, but they do have ramen and unagi don (eel rice bowl), which are certainly not your everyday finds in Ireland. I had the tofu, which was ok but too greasy for my liking unfortunately. I did not see alcohol on the menu, but I'm guessing it must be on a separate drinks menu if there is. There are a few nice Japanese teas though. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the restaurant feels quite close to authentic. 2 star reduction for lack of variety besides sushi, with most things being fried or deep fried, and also the prices being on the steeper side for what it's worth. We had dinner at the Tomodachi Sushi Bar. The location is great, the place is spacious, and the food was fine, if not very exceptional. I went for a Bento box, and wound up with some fairly generic Asian food. Not bad mind you, but could have been Chinese food court anywhere. The company and decor made it a wonderful evening nonetheless. read more

I put this new restaurant up as I just had quite possibly the best sushi in my life!! Apparently they have been open for 2 months now, centrally located in the square just opposite Brown Thomas. Very excited as Galway definitely needed a good sushi joint. The interior is fabulous as well, lots of space and great vibe. Fresh, quality ingredients all rolled into the highest standard caterpillar Norimaki! Effective service as well I didn't wait even 5 minutes. Would recommend to any sushi lover in the galway area. read more

This restaurant is great! It's one of the few places (non-fast food) around Galway that has their kitchen open past 7/8pm. The sushi is good and in great variety, the atmosphere and decoration are beautiful, and the servers are extremely polite and willing to explain anything you ask. It's a little pricey, but if you need a nice dinner later in the evening, it's definitely worth it. We had the tokoyaki (octopus balls...kind of like Japanese hush puppies?), chef sushi sample, chicken ramen, and 2 glasses of wine (bill came to about 55 euro). No complaints about the food at all. Sushi was alright but the soy sauce was soooooo salty that it made everything bitter and the experience not so enjoyable.

Staff are super friendly and the food is well prepared! We went in for our anniversary and just kept coming back :D
