I have moved to the area within the last year and came here for an inspection in the past and most recently for replacement brake pads and some service work, which was all great. Reasonably priced in my opinion. I did end up having the low tire pressure light come on the day following, which later found out was a flat due to a nail in the tire (which I can't say for sure how that got there,) but I brought it back the same week asking if they could take a look and they gave me a new tire and changed it for me at no cost. Tomco Auto Repair charged 4000$ to replace the transmission (in the defective $24K truck I had just purchased from west Islip auto sales...) But instead or removing the OEM Stainless STEEL exhaust manifold as required, they cut the pipe containing the catalytic converters, and then re-welded it back together!! This is absolutely not an acceptable practice! Possibly Illegal? And now my OEM Emissions exhaust system has been compromised, when the vehicle was only there for Transmission work!! So I called the shop, and the guy on the phone kept pretending he didn't understand the issue!! He kept saying "I don't understand, is your transmission working fine?" So Im sure this is how they get away with such HACK work ? By demeaning the client!! Obviously, I wont allow these guys to ever work on my vehicle again as THAT PART CAN NOT BE REPLACED with the same QUALITY PART! These OEM Header pipes were designed of stainless steel to last over 25 years and 300,000 miles! They are only installed on new vehicles from the factory and are unavailable for purchase!!! So why would anyone willingly destroy the integrity of any part, (let alone a FEDERAL Emissions requirement), when removal of said part is required for a transmission replacement! In addition, they also failed to re-install several brackets and heat shields! PLEASE SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS!! Obviously, I would never allow these hacks to work on this truck again, when they have already proved they can not be trusted!! the owner keeps throwing shade in an attempt to avoid the actual PROBLEM THEY CREATED FOR NO GOOD REASON!! Then says I threatened them? What a PIECE OF work this guy is!!! Just how low will TOM CONNER GO? This Company needs to be Fined and their inspection license pulled! Therefore, because these people already proved that they can't be trusted, I have requested a full refund, of 4,000$, for the cost of the shoddy transmission work they performed. I purchased a 2005 Honda Civic from them in December 2023. At the moment when I purchased the vehicle there were no issues they promised me that there were no issues. Fast forward to the end of February beginning of March. My car hesitated. When I press the gas there were hesitation. I honestly thought that it was the transmission. Thank the Lord, we have a neighbor that helped my husband look into the car. They sold me a car where they taped together the injector connectors pigtail. The photos will be enclosed. If we did not have the neighbor as the mechanic, we had a quote of $$$$ to get this car fixed. Knowing that the mechanic that looked at it said it was taped together. And this was a "temporary fix" I would not trust these people at this garage, if my life depended upon it. It just feels very hurtful knowing that they're only out for their pockets and not for what reality is, which was a temporary fix to a problem that I never would've realized what it was, if we did not have the neighbor mechanic looking at it, so do I trust them absolutely not. This must have been the problem with this vehicle. That's why it had over five owners. But thankfully, my neighbor and my husband took a deep look into the engine of the car and hopefully fixed it. So I'd like to thank them for screwing me over, but it wasn't good enough because my husband knew what he was doing. Anything that they respond back is probably going to be a B. S. Lie!! read more

Went here today for a photo inspection. I made an appointment a few days ago and had called quite a few other repair shops that were closer to me, but who either said they didn't want to do it or was given an attitude, but with Tomco I was greeted on the phone warmly and scheduled an appointment. I arrived 30 mins early and was told that the guys were on their break so I said no problem I'll wait. Unfortunately, I Recomemded this place to a great friend, I know one of the mecanics there , she took her 2008 BMW X5 and got taken advantage. She was charge $1450 for work that was not done furthermore, the work that was done was not the work she came in for . She complaint from the very begining and was told that they fixed the oil leak which was the problem she came in for . She got home and her brand new driveway was stained from an even greater leak .(all they did was put am oil stop leak additive.) She called them out, took her car to a certified BMW mecanic and upon inspection was told that Tomco mecanics clearly damaged her vehicle. She called TOMCO back and was told no refunds and was told bring car back to be fixed she told them, "no way you are touching my car" They could have apologize and refunded her some of the money but they refused, the work done on the car was more $800 this place sucks, they could have done better.... read more

We are from out-of-state. Bringing grandmother's car to PA since she was moving across county. Car was packed with suitcases and boxes. Broke down on LIE. Looked on google maps and Tomco was close by. Gave them a call and was told to come right over and they would help us. Found out that car hadn't been serviced in many years and needed significant repairs. They were happy to help. Manager Bobby and owner Tommy took great care of us, including opening on Christmas Eve to allow us to retrieve the suitcases to another car. Tommy and Bobby were our Christmas angels. They were kind and compassionate to our situation. Flew with grandmother across the country. Wasn't able to return to LI until one week later. I can't express enough how much gratitude I have for Tommy and his staff. Prior to bringing my car to TOMCO, I had brought it to two other mechanics: the first held my car for a week and was still unable to accurately diagnosis the issue, the second advised me that my engine would need to be replaced and recommended I go to my dealership to attempt a trade-in. I was so upset, frustrated and stressed over the time, money and logistics I was attempting to navigate during this time. I finally called Tommy after being referred by a friend. From the first phone call to their shop, I was treated like a VIP customer despite never having used his services before. Tommy and his team went above and beyond to get my car fixed and returned to me promptly. They even went so far as to offer a tow to their shop free of charge, a ride to work after leaving the vehicle and they took my (very dirty) car to the car wash before returning it to me (being a hot mess is part of my charm, people!). I was in a difficult financial position when this all transpired and was unable to leave a large deposit for a costly job. Tommy could have turned me away or told me he wouldn't move forward without more significant collateral but he didn't. He took my word and good faith promise and moved forward with the necessary repairs to get the car returned to me right away. My entire family has stopped going here! 1 week after having,my brake system maintenance done (pads, rotors, brake lines etc) BOTH rear cylinders went. They charged me for the repair and said "well it wasn't like that when WE had it" ...2 weeks later, I pulled out of my parking lot and the brakes and the brakes were making the scariest sound I ever heard. I just bought a used SUV here yesterday. I got to say I went around looking for a used Car/SUV for the past couple of week. Most places I felt very uncomfortable, I finally discovered Tomco Auto Repair and they have many used vehicles and all them are in great shape. The staff are all very nice and welcoming. The owner Tom even was so involved with me and is extremely nice, they treat you like family here. My dad is looking for a car himself and I have him coming to Tomco in Bethpage to get his used car. Wow what a difference great customer service makes. I decided to give this shop a second chance and I really needed a last minute photo inspection. I called before hand and he was pleasant. I got there around 4:30. He asked me if I can come before 5. I walked in and he was nice. Asked if he could smoke his cigarette first. I get that busy day and probably had some down time. He came back in and took care of everything fast. Nice small talk. He then walked me out to my car and said if I ever needed anything his name was Bob (from what I recall) & he would help me with whatever I needed. Unfortunately my experience could not have been worse. I brought my Lexus car here for a brake job due to convenient location near my job and trying to save a few bucks versus dealer prize. I wished I would have been smarter and would have read the Yelp reviews before taking my car there. The initial estimate, including oil change, tire rotation, and transmission service (which they recommended without me asking), was $1500 for just the rear brakes. I told them I wanted to take my car to the dealer because the price would be about the same and I would get a loaner. They offered me a loaner too so I said ok, do the job but give the prize without the transmission service. They put joe on hold for a long time so I had to hung up. Every time you ask any questions regarding money, the response time is very long. It seems that math is challenging for them. When they finally gave me the new estimate, in only came down to $1,389, therefore $111 less than originally. I said ok, do the job without transmission. There were a few calls after that to verify the price, during which they tried to bring it up and I had to fight to confirm the price the $1,389 number. Not surprisingly, when I picked up my car the invoice was for over $1,600. After reviewing the details, I realized there was a 4% credit card fee (unavoidable) and a "mistake" on the labor cost where they charged me extra $67. But what is worse, The invoice had a suggestion for the transmission service costing $289. If that is the cost, why did they only deducted $111 from the initial estimate when I asked them to remove that part of the job? I know this is a lot of math, but if you take the time to read this review you will be saving not only a lot of money but more importantly also a lot of wasted time and headaches that they will cause by being rude and very unprofessional. read more

Tom is a fair and honest business man. I contacted him re: a vehicle: 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid he was selling. His response was swift and description of the details were accurate. I drove from Bergen County NJ to see and drive the vehicle. I was pleasantly surprised. Firstly, the vehicle looked as good in person as it did in the pictures. Make sure you get a second opinion on everything this guy says. Failed my inspection claiming I needed a ton of work. Since my car was under warranty I brought it to the dealer. They said half of the claims he made were exaggerated and I should have never failed the inspection and he was trying to rip me off. If the dealership is saying they didn't have to do repairs that weren't covered under the warranty that says a lot. Usually I am afraid to go to the dealer because they do everything.
