Terrible customer service. When asking for a quote for a smog, they refused service, stating they were "to busy" to assist in the moment. Not one car was in the shop and the older white gentleman was standing in the corner of the business trying to look busy. I asked when the next service was available and was told to come back another time. Completely unsatisfied! Went down the street and got smog checked in and out in under 30 minutes for only $39. I was recommended by a coworker. No sooner had my vehicle been parked for the smog check to begin, my check engine light came on. He promptly told me that my car would automatically fail with a check engine light and he didn't charge me but told me to come back when it was fixed. Contrast that with the Smog Dog that I went to in Palm Springs. They saw my check engine light on before they started and did the whole smog test knowing I was going to fail and then CHARGED me! This is not chain or box store, and there are not any frills - at all. Vehicles are worked on in a first-come, first-serve basis. If you choose to wait, it will be outside and there may, or may not be, any chairs available to sit on. I like to support local businesses when I can, but there may be trade-offs. Called around today to get my car smogged and ended up speaking to the owner of the business his name was Cesar. The gentleman quickly gave me the quote that I requested and then said if I could make it in the next few minutes that he would be able to have me in and out in less than 10 minutes. on top of that his price was $10 less than the five other businesses I spoke to you before him. I showed up and Cesar introduced himself and gave me a firm handshake and quickly got to work and true to his word I was in and out in less than 10 minutes with the best price in the area. I've been in this area for close to a decade now and this was some of the best customer service I have had from any of the auto shops and definitely the quickest service. Do not go here! The owner is unknowledgeable, rude and purely ignorant. He failed my vehicle based on his lack of knowledge of CARB rules and regulations. It passed all emissions elements with flying colors. I have an K&N CARB (California air resource board) compliant air intake system on my truck. I had a receipt with the carb number and tried to show him on the companies website. He refused to acknowledge he was wrong and wouldn't look at my information. I am an automotive enthusiast and worked as a mechanic for many years. I would never put a non emissions compliant part on my vehicle. I took my vehicle to another smog shop down the street and it passed without issue 30 minutes later. He refused to give me a refund and acknowledge his error. I have since filed a complaint with BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair). Don't waste your time with this shop. read more

I don't know if I was scammed or this guy is just not up to date with all the newer technology on cars but I had to pay for a smog check and my car failed and was told that I needed new catalytic converters . Porsche $2000!?? and a tune up $1500??? and take it to some mechanic. I did some research on Google and the next day my car passed smog.I had to pay $62 for failed test and another $40 for this guy to retest my vehicle. definitely I was scammed or this guy is just not up to date with any of the newer vehicles . Do yourself a favor and get yourself a OBD2 scanner which you can get on Amazon for about 20 bucks if you come up with any fault codes while doing a smog check . my problem was I didn't drive my vehicle enough and the car needs to be warm and ready for this test to have happened it would have been nice if this guy explained anything but he seems so clueless and he just wants to take your money and move on to the next customer pass or failed This is an update to my review after coming here for the first time 4 years ago. I made an appointment for Friday August 21st 2020 at 8 a.m.. everything was fine I took my car here and I told the older gentleman that I needed a smog check and I haven't driven really my car at all in the last year-and-a-half and and he said no problem. After doing the smog check he said my car failed ,he suggested I get new catalytic converters have a mechanic look at it . I was extremely surprised knowing that my car just got a tune-up from Precision Porsche and it was driven mainly about 300 miles in the last 4 years. I did some research and turns out my car just needed to be put into a drive cycle and the catalyst wasn't ready. I did some research online and found out I needed to do a few things just to get the car ready for smog. Start engine, let idle for approx. 2 min, 10 secs Accelerate to 20-30 MPH or 32-48km/h, Maintain steady speed for approx 3 min, 15 secs Accelerate to 40-60 MPH or 64-96km/h, Maintain steady speed for approx 15 mins Decelerate and come to a stop Idle in Neutral for 5 mins (manual trans) During the drive cycle, do not exceed 3,000 rpm or 60 mph (96km/h) Saturday morning I followed the steps and the catalyst on my vehicle was ready. I love this place. This is the 2nd time taking my car in for a smog check at Tomas Smog. Mr. Moon is always nice and friendly. I especially love how he always brings out this 20% coupon to make sure I get the discount, and then he staples it to the papers so I can either give it to friends or use it the next time, and it never expires. Now that's what I call a smart businessman. On older cars he charges about $10 more which is normal everywhere, but with the 20% discount it is still way cheaper than any other Star Certified Smog Check Station. I paid under $60 and that includes the $8 State Certification Fee. All this would have normally cost me over $70 with certification anywhere else. Will definitely keep coming back again, and again. I think this shop has been in Redlands for a long time. But I had bad experience this afternoon. I had to be required for my smog chek. I had been waiting and waiting do finally I got my turn and the owner started inspection and after few minutes he stopped doing that and gave my car key. He said " my machine may be something wrong so you gotta try different station" when I heard that it sound like refusing the service to me. I had been purchased whole tires 3 or 4 times (he has own tire shop, too). But I purchased tires at the America's tire because better deal than this guy's shop. I might think of this mater made him upset or something. Anyway, I went to A TOP LINE SMOG N TINT next to the DMV by yelp review. It costs 65 dollars but owner gave dicount and I just paid 55 dollars. I don't recommend thomas smog anymore. I've always come here for my smog tests. I've been here 4 times. The owner is a very nice man that usually will give a coupon to bring the price down to just under $50. The shop is very clean and the staff is pretty friendly. The owner doesn't talk much, he just get you in and out. Came here with the recommendation of my father in law. He also gave me a 20% coupon. My father in law also mentioned that if you dont have the coupon he usually gives it to you anyways. Its kind of hidden because they really dont have a sign. The sign is so small, if you blink you will miss it. Its right next to the J&C tire shop, across from the high school, right before the car dealer ship. I drove around couple times looking for it. Small clean shop. The guy was really nice, I was helped right away. Took probably 20 mins. He also checked my oil and suggested that I get my valves adjusted. Total came out to 50.00.
