I spent the night in a hotel, so my dog could be on time for her surgery with Dr. Infernuso promptly at 8:00 am. My pug has a large fluid-filled mass on her abdomen that continues to grow. Based on what I saw online and from the reviews I thought he would do a brilliant job. I had a surgery scheduled and called his office twice the week before to confirm my appointment, then when I got to the hospital the lady said to me: "What are you doing here Dr. Infernuso does not have any surgeries scheduled today." Whoever does the scheduling at Dr. Infernuso's office Never Called the Hospital or scheduled the surgery at the hospital in Minneola to say we were coming** I took a car from Manhattan to a hospital in Minneola and spent the night at La Quinta so we could be there promptly at 8:00am (which I was).. Then when I called his office the girl told me to 'drop the dog' off he'll be there anytime from 9-11am (3 hour window) ?? that was never the plan. With no consultation? With a doctor I've never met. ? None of it makes any sense to me nor did the way I was treated. The lady at the front desk at that particular hospital was awful, condescending, rude and was completely clueless as to the schedule- when you add it altogether the whole thing made me very uncomfortable and scared. I'm sure Dr. I is brilliant but I am so upset and heartbroken every time I look at my dog- no doctor in the city is really in favor of even doing it at this point, citing her age and breed as being too high risk. Again, I know he is a great surgeon I have followed his surgeries online and all of them are incredible. Unfortunately I believe I am- go figure the only one here with a bad 'non-experience.' And as for my dog.. well, it's just sad.

Chevy recovering from MPL and FHO surgeries

Dr. Infernuso is AMAZING. Honestly, if you've experienced his work and his empathy, you know what I mean. In December 2015, Chevy, my 1 1/2 year old pit bull/lab mix was having a hard time walking up the stairs in my house and even jumping onto the couch. I took him to our usual vet who quickly diagnosed him with a floating kneecap and wanted me to book surgery with her surgeon friend who I wouldn't be able to meet for a consult before the surgery...nope, not happening. I asked the rescue org that I got Chevy through and they emphatically recommended Dr. Infernuso, so I arranged a consult. He's a travelling surgeon and works out of various Long Island vet hospital locations- I met him at Garden City Veterinary Hospital in Mineola. The consult fee is $200, but if you then proceed with surgery, that $200 is deducted from the surgery price. Dr. Infernuso was so caring, patient, and kind, as I had a million questions regarding Chevy's diagnoses (yes, plural). Chevy needed an MPL and FHO on his left leg. I HIGHLY recommend getting pet insurance before getting any consults (if you can wait, obviously) because the insurance covered much of the price of the surgery Chevy had. Dr. Infernuso called me to let me know when he was going into surgery, when he was done and the result, and followed up the next day. He also gives you DETAILED medication and recovery instructions to follow. Chevy had both surgeries in one shot, and we're still in the process of recovery before we do surgery on the other leg this summer. We can't wait for Chevy to be a normal pup that can run around again! Dr. Infernuso has my highest recommendation- I would drive from anywhere to have him perform surgery on any of my pets. **There's a comment below about the scheduling and promptness of appointments, and I do understand the frustration, but you also have to remember that Dr. Infernuso does emergency surgeries on the fly, so, sometimes emergencies happen and he needs to be somewhere. His work is amazing though, and worth waiting if he does have an emergency case.

If you are reading this review right now consider yourself so lucky that you have found Dr. Infernuso!! I was referred to Dr. Infernuso 8 years ago by a dog rescue group who sang his praises. My dog had IVDD and needed to have major back surgery. I traveled to Queens where Dr. Infernuso worked at the time. The location wasn't convenient for me but I heard he was the best and I wasn't going to have anyone other than the best perform back surgery on my baby. And I'm so glad I did because Dr. Infernuso performed this difficult surgery with amazing results. There was a risk of my dog becoming paralyzed from the surgery and I was so so scared. Not only did he not become paralyzed but after a few months of recovery he was running around again like a puppy. Post surgery Dr. Infernuso was with me along every step of the way during his long recovery. He always took my calls (and there were many) and was just so gracious. Someone else may have gotten annoyed with all of the frantic mom phone calls but he wasn't. Fast forward 8 years later my other dog Charlie who is now a senior had to have a parathyroidectomy. He's 14 years old. I was scared because he's so old but I knew that if I took him to Dr. Infernuso who now has his own practice on Long Island (which again wasn't convenient for me since I live in Manhattan) that he would be in the best of hands. And he was. My Charlie is now recovering wonderfully from the surgery. Not only is Dr. Infernuso the best surgeon, he has a warm and comforting bedside manner and a true love for animals. I know from research and from word of mouth that he has done and continues to do a lot of work for rescue animals out of the kindness of his heart and for the love he has for animals. It is abundantly clear that not only is his work amazing but for him it truly is a labor of love. I would drive my pup to the end of the earth to see Dr. Infernuso if my dog ever needed surgery again.

I met Dr Infernuso in 2013 through a recommendation from a friend. My dog Sammy at the time was dragging her foot a bit. I thought neurological. Dr Infernuso came to my house took a 5 minute look at Sammy's walking and gave me the terrible news that she would be fully paralyzed within a year from degenerative myelopathy. Terrible news but amazing how he knew so quickly. Within the year she was paralyzed unfortunately. She hung on a few years with a cart but passed in September of 2015. That's when we got Charlie. A pit bull with severe hip dysplasia. Who else would I call? Dr Infernuso fixed both hips, communicated throughout the whole process, checked in often and just made us feel good about recovery. 3 months later Charlie is great! I still speak with Dr Infernuso often and send him pics and videos! He is the best!

My cat had Lymphoma. She went downhill so fast, she was clearly in pain, stopped eating and drinking; I didn't want to subject her to the 70 minute car trip to our usual veterinarian. I started calling all the animal hospitals within a 20 minute drive. I was shocked at the amount of money they were asking me to pay to end her suffering. All were charging for a full exam even though I explained I had the pathology report & one look at her & it was clear that sadly the time had come. A couple of places even gave me ridiculously itemized totals. And then, I called Station Plaza Veterinarian Group. The fee was so low that I questioned the education & amount of years in practice. Top Vet school, 15 years in practice... okay. I arrived to a filled waiting room, but was ushered right into a treatment room. The Vet Tech was kind, caring and comforting. Dr. Cathy Roncskevitz came in. She examined my cat and read the report. She then patiently explained the possible treatments and poor prognosis. She supported me, explaining and giving me the confidence that I needed to go ahead with euthanasia. With a full waiting room, she told me to take all the time I needed to say goodbye. I have euthanatized five animals, and Dr R. took the most time with the sedative first to make sure she was asleep before injecting. She was the first doctor to get the vein on the first try, considering my cat was dehydrated, making it difficult. She even took the time to shave all the fur I wanted. I commented to Dr.Roncskevitz about her very reasonable fee; "It's the last service that we can provide for an animal, why should we price gouge." From start to finish, I was treated as if I was a long time important client. I still have two cats & a parrot, I am pleased to say that I won't have to make that 70 minute trip to my long-time veterinarian.

Dr. Sullivan killed my cat by carelessly injecting my senior cat with a KNOWN HEART MURMUR with a steroid that lead to her going into congestive heart failure. I wouldn't trust this place with a goldfish. Their negligence and incompetence is horrible and they should be shut down for good. Same goes for their sister establishment west hills.

If your pets have had the fortunate opportunity, such as mine, to be in his care, and if you miss him; I want you to know he's back on a part-time basis. Hopefully, he will remain and better yet, return to being one of their full time doctors. I have shared my home with cats since the early 70's. I'm not sure, it might have been during the mid 80's or 90's, when Dr. Gentile joined the practice. At that time the facility was still privately owned. Since then he has used their revolving door. Throughout the years my fur babies have been treated by many doctors at this facility. Dr. Gentile is one of the most caring my pets were fortunate to be treated by. He is compassionate, excellent skills/knowledge, quick thinking, assertive. He takes time to listen, explains thoroughly, answers questions in a language and manner we can understand. A client never feels uncomfortable in his presence, he understands the animal isn't the only one hurting. He is very patient, doesn't speed through exams, a client doesn't feel rushed. I think after a while animal care gets to be routine with some doctors. They forget the importance of also treating the client, they can even present annoyance a client is taking up their time. I understand they don't have an easy job, treating sick animals have to deal with death on a regular basis. I think it becomes routine, they lose their ability to communicate, express compassion and emotions. However, this is the career they chose and when they get to that stage, they should retire. Dr. Gentile is honest and very direct. If you are looking for a vet who's going to agree with you, or pat you on the back, this doctor is not for you.
