This was an extremely disturbing and unacceptable experience that resulted in serious harm to my…read moredog. I initially called this office because my dog needed an abdominal ultrasound. The office staff specifically told me that Dr. Marder could perform it and scheduled me for an appointment later that same day. When I arrived, Dr. Marder informed me that he could not perform an abdominal ultrasound and only knew how to do bladder ultrasounds, which was never disclosed beforehand or I would have gone somewhere else. Despite this, he proceeded with a bladder ultrasound and told me there were no bladder stones. He then recommended an X-ray and stated there was no evidence of stones on that imaging either. Shortly afterward, Dr. Marder returned and said that an AI program had interpreted the X-ray as showing stones and insisted that my dog needed surgery immediately. Based on this recommendation, my dog was scheduled for surgery the next day. During surgery, no stones were found. I was later informed that Dr. Marder had repeatedly attempted to place a urinary catheter, resulting in significant bleeding. Bleeding that never stopped after whatever trauma he caused to the urethra. When I arrived to pick up my dog, he had a large abdominal incision and a catheter actively draining blood. His condition was clearly worse than when I had brought him in. When I saw the critical condition my dog was in, I immediately took my dog to a New York City animal hospital, where he was admitted to the ICU for emergency care. This entire situation was the result of poor communication, lack of appropriate diagnostic capability, and a deeply concerning surgical decision that should never have been made. I would strongly caution any pet owner to seek any care at this practice.

If a pet is diagnosed with a serious medical condition please see a specialist/and or hospital with extensive testing capability. Brought my cat in on a Thursday and told he would not live past the weekend - in a joking fashion in the waiting room among other clients and staff. So unprofessional . I had lost all hope thinking every day would be his last. He did last weeks beyond that and I had so much more precious time to get a second opinion. A certain test was done by this vet on my cat (a senior cat) and made the condition worse and could have ruptured the mass causing even further complications. The Vet also dug his hands into my cats abdomen when another test (from a prior vet) already revealed the size of the abdominal growth - why would you do that? After doing research - this test had so many negative ramifications and not conclusive - My cat cried all that night when I got him home. If this can help any other cat owner - please see a specialist or get them to a full service hospital care with advanced testing facilities to get more conclusive results. And more caring compassionate care - when who knows this condition could have been cured had the correct testing been done and most likely caused by some other issue. A prior vet Bond Vet had recommended procedures of which none had been performed. And all the while this vet was complaining about the prior vet I had brought my cat to - stating they did not do a thorough exam. Dr. May said it was an incurable pain free disease , but our poor 14 year old Kitty suffered tremendously in his final weeks . PLEASE GET A SECOND OPINION. SEE A CAT SPECIALIST. I was given so little time - lost hope - and failed to see the big picture until it was too late. Our cat suffered so much . Dr. May puts you in a panic - stating my cat is so sick and only has a few days to live - then says to start chemo right away for a 14 year old cat that would only extend his life a few months. Dr. May was upset when I did not call him back right away the following Monday - we were absolutely devastated when he said our cat only had a few days. Dr. May is not an oncologist - why would you possibly be so arrogant with so little testing done (still dont even know what he had-have no faith in the diagnosis) - and cause so much pain and suffering for these little defenseless animals that have no voice and for the human parents that trusted you. Why do this? You have to know when you are causing more harm than good, have no judgement and are guided by selfish arrogance and greed.

I used Naomi and James' service for over a year for my 2 cats, with frequent visits, multiple times…read moreper month, as I often spend weekends upstate. I was new to the area and sold by the good reviews, as well as a close family member who had used their service for *decades*. My experiences started out great--they have several people who do the visits and I only met one of them, but he did great with my cats and was clearly an experienced pet person. This was never an issue. There were a few bumps, like when I asked for my plants to be watered, and they said that it "wasn't necessary" since I would only be gone for 2 days, but I know my plants, and of course I come back to them wilted. But the cats were fine and they even used the hand-vac to clean up extra litter around the box, so I was fine letting small things like that slide for the sake of a consistent relationship with a small business who did a perfectly fine job for the premium ($43 per "30 minute" visit) which they charge. I was just glad to have consistent and readily available cat care to trust when I went away. I like to think I've always been an easy to deal with client, having super friendly and low-maintenance cats, a clean apartment (leaving the A/C on for days when I'm away in the summer), giving plenty of notice when booking visits, paying well in advance, and leaving all supplies neatly on counter. Over the last several months I'd noticed several inconsistencies with what I'd come home to find after being away--the most disturbing being both the cat's water fountains completely dry after 4 visits in January. This could've been a life or death situation if I didn't come back when I did, but nothing like this had ever happened before with them, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt if this being a one-off and didn't mention it. I always fill water fountains before I leave, and water they take several days to run completely dry--the steam gets lower for a day, and then goes out. This means to be left DRY, the only explanation is that the water fountains were not checked or refilled for several days in a row. After coming back from a weekend trip 2 weeks ago, I noticed several more inconsistencies, things which I've addressed with them before, and decided to send an email mentioning these, and finally deciding to mention the water fountain incident. My intention if this email was a tone of appropriate concern over these building inconsistencies, and really just needing and expecting to receive a reply like "so sorry this happened, we will be sure to be mindful with future visits when addressing the issues you've mentioned for future visits". Instead, they clearly took my comments very personally and replied very quickly saying that I clearly didn't trust them and they were going to mail me my keys and not come back. I was pretty shocked at the lack of professionalism and impulsive reactivity of this response, so I replied with another long email apologizing if I offended them, explaining that the reason I'm mentioning these things was because I DO (did) trust them and just wanted to ensure the same quality of care I've been paying for since the he beginning. With the water issue, the brushed it off saying that it was over a month ago so how were they supposed to remember what happened (this lack of response only validated my concerns). The screwed up thing is that after these defensive and unprofessional responses, I basically ended up begging them to stay, if for no other reason than I had booked them for this coming weekend, paid in advance, and would now have to scramble for last minute coverage or cancel my plans entirely. Additionally, my cats, like most pets take time to get used to new people, and hiring someone new causes them (and me) unnecessary stress. I don't like leaving anything less than a 5 star review for deserving small businesses, and unlike Naomi from Pet Sitter's Club, chose to wait and make sure I was level-headed and not emotionally reacting before posting my experience. All in all, Pet Sitter's Club provides adequate care for a premium fee as long as you don't provide any feedback that can potentially be perceived as criticism, don't expect consistent service, and don't want to feel valued as a customer. Now that they've showed their true colors, it's clear I should not have given Naomi and James my trust for as long as I did.

Scheduling an appointment has always been pretty easy, and the front desk staff have always been very nice/helpful to me. After adopting my formerly feral girl, i was a frequent flyer for a few months with prep, surgery, and after care visits, and they were always willing and able to answer my questions regarding prescriptions and payments. Most recently, I saw Dr. Lotus Altholtz, who was very kind and gentle to my 2 nervous cats (though my cats might complain that she wants me to cut back on their treats a bit). The biggest stars though, are the assistants (nurses ?) who help keep my 2 calm and on the table during exams. They are all very friendly, and help put both my cats and me, a very nervous first time cat owner, at ease.
