I saw my first play there over twenty years ago - it was Annie 2: Miss Hannigan's Revenge, the sequel to the popular musical. I've since attended many more productions, both musical and dramatic, at the Little Theatre of Wilkes-Barre. The quality of the plays will vary from show to show depending on a number of factors, but the passion of those performing onstage and working behind-the-scenes is always consistent. Most of the artists mounting these productions are volunteers or working for very little money - every show is truly a labor of love. Every citizen should support their local community theater and attend at least one show per season.

This is definitely worth the trip if you're within 30 mins. It's close to Montage Mountain if you happen to be in the area skiing or tubing. It also goes hand in hand with many other holiday attractions in the neighborhood! You can certainly just drive by if getting out isn't your thing. There is a photo booth picture op but I think taking photos in front of the house is better. Fantastic! Such a treat to the community! Amazing views of gardens, farms, woods and the Hudson River. Morse Mansion is incredible. This was $11 per person but worth the price of admission in my opinion. Large from the outside with sprawling porches but once you get inside the rooms just keep going. Once inside you will see so much vintage furniture and beautiful architecture. Pro tip: Felicia was a wealth of historic knowledge outlining so many features of the home plus the family history from Morse to Young!

Visiting during the holiday season (in December) the house is buried with Christmas decorations that blocked the view and enjoyment of the historical mansion. The house looked more like a Christmas village than a historical landmark. The coverage of Samuel Morse was limited to a room in the reception building which the docent never discussed. If we hadn't used the restroom we wouldn't have seen the original art of Samuel Morse or any discussion of his invention. Lucky we at least glimpsed the only interesting section of this site. I also must add that the grounds around the property may look beautiful in the Spring but don't waste your time going in Winter when the gardens are desolate. I would hope the Spring would bring out the gardens that the site is known for.

The Wayne County Historical Society is a historic preservation society and museum that opened in…read moreHonesdale, Pennsylvania in 1939. The society was organized in 1917 and incorporated in 1922. The main building of the museum is a circa 1860 structure that originally housed the offices of the Delaware & Hudson Canal Company. The society also maintains other historic landmarks in and around Honesdale, including the D&H Canal Park, the Torrey Building, the Bethel School, and the Old Stone Jail. My family and I recently visited the Wayne County Historical Society while we were spending a long weekend in the Poconos. Honesdale is rich in railroad history, and anyone visiting the museum will find that out right away. There are a lot of artifacts associated with the Delaware & Hudson Canal, and its subsidiary the Delaware & Hudson Gravity Railroad, which transported anthracite coal from northeastern Pennsylvania to the Hudson River from 1828-1899. The icing on the cake was a full-size replica of the "Stourbridge Lion": an early steam locomotive that was purchased by the company in England and then shipped to Honesdale to be tested on their newly built railway track. It was the first locomotive to be operated in the United States. Its name comes from the lion's face painted on the front, and the fact that it was manufactured in Stourbridge, England. Other exhibits concern the history of Native Americans in the region, Wayne County's cut glass industry, Early Bands in the area, artifacts from the local Congregation Beth Israel synagogue, and a small Children's Museum. Before leaving, we purchased a children's book about the Stourbridge Lion in the gift shop. We had a fun visit to the museum and recommend it to visitors to Honesdale.
