Well, Albuquerque ain't such a bad choice, actually. While you won't necessarily find a well connected community of pianists in these parts, you can certainly bank on one thing: single story homes galore, which translates to (comparatively) easier work and (comparatively) fewer lawsuits. Or so I figure. I chose Expert Piano Moving because it was the only company that came up when I searched "Piano Movers" on Yelp, they didn't have any reviews, so it was something of a leap of faith. I'm so glad I called (so easy to do, just tap that Call tab). A really friendly voice answered the phone and ran through a few simple questions about the projected job, the most important being "Will there be more than three stairs?" Sounds kinda weird, right? Three stairs, that magic number. Wuzzup wit three? My mind's eye envisioned the path: two stairs up, one down, that's three. Not more than. Precisely. "Nope," I told her. I won't quote the price because inflation happens, but it was totally fair. The next available appointment was the following day, so I signed up. And the following day the movers called me two hours early saying they were running ahead of schedule - could they come early? Of course. Two very friendly dudes showed up at the address with a large van loaded with enough equipment to haul King Kong, and they set to work. Here's where they definitely earned it. If you are considering opening a piano moving company, consider this: most of the homes in ABQ proper were originally designed for small lives: small people, small doorways, small rooms. Pianos aren't small. Those two dudes spent about 90 minutes carefully wheeling that monstrosity out of a tiny New Mexican home without a nick of damage: fantastic. This included temporarily removing a door. The entire ordeal ran about two hours. For the quote, effort, time and care, this company delivered an incredible performance.

I called in, spoke to them twice, then made an appointment to go up from Santa Fe to see some pianos. It was not only exciting, but quite lovely having the entire store to myself to explore what piano would work for me; especially since I was a tad nervous since I had not played in quite sometime. Neal could not have been more sensitive to my needs and vulnerability. He played like a virtuoso so I could get the full range of the sound; I played to feel the sound and the piano itself. I had the best of both worlds. Going in I wanted a used piano; but after playing a new Yamaha all bets were off. I have played used all my life, so having a new piano all of my own really was not only heartfelt, but personally intimate. The new one I played on the floor was butter; brand new, on the floor only a few weeks; but what 'made the butter melt' was when I asked Neal if he had the same one that was still in the box that no one had played, and he was more than accommodating. Who does that? You will not find the kind of service we experienced anywhere when it comes to buying a piano; and I can tell you Anthony and Neal went 'full monty' on taking care of us and our situation. You guys at Pianowerkes made my New Year! But it does take a team to make a village, so I wanted to also give a big thanks to Adam - 'piano mover extraordinaire' and his two men team who got me my piano in record time before Christmas. THEY worked so hard to make sure that customers were able to get their piano's before Christmas, moving pianos not only in the cold, but across state lines. Now you tell me... if you were to purchase a piano, wouldn't you want to experience the stellar customer service we had? Or take your chances somewhere else....

Because you need to find Terri, she's a terrific piano teacher, and she boasts a resumé chock full of successful lifelong piano students, performers and enthusiasts, of which my daughter -- currently just six years of age --will undoubtably join ranks. Need a piano teacher? Call Terri. Here's why. 1) My daughter looks forward to each and every lesson. This is not typical of piano instruction. In fact, I had major reservations following lessons from an earlier instructor, a militant person who scared my kiddo. Not Terri. Her demeanor is precisely the opposite, she's calming, encouraging, she communicates expectations clearly and gently, and my daughter has responded with glee. Terri often takes a moment with me, following a class, to remark on my daughter's progress. Awesome. 2) Piano classes are taught in a structure next to her lovely, very quiet north valley home, tutoring the way it used to be, from the studio of the artist to the fingers of the apprentice. 3) Students receive weekly homework -- games, songs and music theory instruction -- and my daughter actually likes to do the work. I was happily surprised at how quickly my appointment was scheduled (I called on a Monday, Appointment on a Thursday). On the day of the appointment, I was sent a text when they were on their way and the person to expect (Kelly!). Kelly was great. He saw that my outdoor spigot needed replacing and showed me what was broken. Fortunately, his equipment could still work with my spigot and he went to work to identify the stains on the carpet using a UV light. The actual work did not take too long and the carpet looked great when he was done. I would recommend Kelly and the business if you need to have your carpets cleaned.
