My cousin from out of town recently visited and we dined here at Toledo Spanish Restaurant and we were thoroughly impressed! The ambiance was beautiful, combining warm colors and elegant decor that created a welcoming atmosphere. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by Juan, who set a positive tone for the evening. Our server, Wilmer, was exceptionally attentive throughout our meal, ensuring we had everything we needed. We indulged in the fried calamari and escargot bourgogne for appetizers and the main meals were Paella A La Valencia's which had chicken and chorizos Paella A La Marinera with Saffron rice, lobster, shrimp, scallops, clams & mussels which was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The combination of saffron, fresh seafood, and tender chicken gave a delightful taste of Spain. We finished off with the Apple Tart and the Flan for desserts. Overall, our experience at Toledo was fantastic, and I can confidently say that I will be returning for more culinary delights. My boyfriend picked out this place for a celebration. We were both really happy with our food and the service. We started with the Manchego cheese plate which was really simple but paired really well with our pitcher of sangria. The waiter we had (unfortunately I forgot his name as we went at the beginning of the month) was so friendly and funny! My boyfriend is big on chicken and rice and he has referred to how good the Chicken Al Ajillo was. I had the Truffle Filet Mignon which was cooked perfectly. Cute spanish restaurant that's located right next to my office, so I came here once for drinks after work. It was really quiet when we walked in, which was kind of awkward because there was a loud group of us. We all sat by the bar, and I got a pitcher of sangria that I split with my friend. It was actually so good and the perfect size for 2 people. We didn't order any food, but they kept bringing over small snacks for us to pick on. They even brought over homemade chips, which we all went crazy over. The best part is that they must've just been made because they were warm. When we were about to leave, the waiter gave a couple of us a free shot. I'm not a big fan of shots, but this one was absolutely delicious, even though I have no idea what it was. I wanted to love Toledo because it is one of my friend's favorite places but I honestly was left completely dissatisfied. The weird thing is none of the food was inherently terrible but instead there was just absolutely nothing special about anything and the vast majority of it lacked any flavor whatsoever. The only food item that I thought was decent was the jamón, which, let's be honest, is hard to mess up anyways. On top of that, the waiter was also quite overbearing but when there's literally only two parties dining there I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I've been here 4 times now with my boss, who absolutely loves the restaurant. I'm not a huge fan of classic Spanish food but love Basque food; I usually find food from the rest of Spain usually bland or prepared poorly. This place however does Spanish food well. I'm surprised to see some poor reviews on here. The price point is high, but I've been fortunate to never have to foot the bill here, so of course that makes everything taste better! I usually order one of the lobster entrees here which are tasty and delicious. I've tried a large number of their appetizers including their croquetas, jamon, stuffed mushrooms and escargot - all delicious and perfectly cooked (with the exception of the ham of course). For dessert, I always order the macadamia tart which tastes just like pecan pie with macadamia nuts instead of pecans. Now for the service. I'm really surprised by other reviewers' comments. If anything, the best thing is in fact the service whenever we come here! They are extremely attentive and even have a waiter stand by the table to signal for more wine as soon as one's glass runs low. read more

The quiet stretch of 36th Street that houses Toledo is a far cry from its namesake city on the banks of the Tagus, but the restaurant certainly deserves all the praise and accolades for being a worthy setting for fine dining when one is trapped in this relatively quieter but still characterless part of midtown. Start with a plate of manchego, and then try the black bean soup with confidence. Let the plush setting and the attentive wait staff make you feel more important than you are and you look. But before visions of grandeur begin to take over, finish that plate of paella--every kind is well executed. When the dessert cart comes along, ask for the tartufo--it is an amazing complement to the food. If only Toledo could graduate from a street to an avenue, it would likely have more traffic. But it seems to be doing just fine in its present location. And couldn't do a better job of serving "the classic cuisine of Spain". Bravo! read more

Did you expect customers to play along and get scammed with the we-wont-tell-you-the-price idea? Why not stretch it to your food menu and have us guess what appetizers you serve? The owner must've hated money to implement the dumbest drink ordering process at a place obviously counting on people ordering wine to pay the bills. My firm decided to go with Toledo this year for our annual holiday party. My first impression before I physically stepped in to the restaurant was "wow that Toledo banner really needs a cleaning ... a deep, deep cleaning!" Mind you we have been dealing with unpleasant weather, snowstorm and all, but it still needs a good scrub lol. When I actually stepped in, my reaction was, "wowzers! This is a very fancy and elegant looking interior!" It was quiet with dim lighting, not too dim you'd trip over something or bump into a wall, but dim enough your date wouldnt notice your new zit. We started off with some sangria, which was good (coming from a nondrinker). I ordered the escargot for appetizer, seafood paella for entree and a lemon sorbet for dessert. The paella was absolutely delicious with a pretty generous portion size. They weren't stingy with the seafood at all. Moreover, the lemon sorbet was cleverly served in a ginormous frozen lemon and was a light and perfect ending to my big meal. The downside of my 3-course meal, I must say, rested solely in the escargot. I dont know whether this is due to me being spoiled by the French, but it was really bland. Fresh, but bland. One other thing: neither of us were presented with a glass of water. I mean, yes my bosses and coworkers were quenching their thirsts with sangria and red wine (lots of red wine) but someone like myself who cant drink and need to flush out the alcohol from my system need water! If you love great Spanish food you will love Toledo. It's facade may look a little bit intimidating but once inside the friendly staff greets you and once past the bar you find yourself in a cozy dining area. I have only been fortunate enough to visit Toledo once and it was for a late lunch. There was only one other table seated at the time, which happened to be a table of three older gentlemen speaking Spanish (see previous reviews on theory on native languages being speaken). This not only made me hopeful that the food would be good, but it also added to the already great atmosphere. Being familiar with Spanish food I decided to go for with traditional dishes of Gazpacho and the seafood version of their paella. I've actually never had the cold soup, which can be a little weird (cold and soup don't usually go together for me) but it was truly delicious. As my wife put it, it kinda tastes like a smoth, mild and sweet salsa. It was a great start to what would be an even better meal as the main course arrived. Before I get ahead of myself, let's cover drinks. Naturally, we decided for local choices, I myself had the only Spanish beer I heard the waiter ramble off and it was very tasty. My wife went for the sangria and she said it was phenomenal. I'm not a big sangria-fan myself but I'll take her word for it. The seafood paella, which includied such things as scallops, shrimp, lobster, clams and mussels, was truly delicious. It was served tableside in the pan I imagine the entire concoction was cooked in over the past few hours. The saffron rice was so rich and amazing that words can't even describe it! The ratio of saffron rice to seafood was probably 50-50, which I found very generious, and in every bite I took I kept finding more "hidden" gems. I did wish that the pieces of whole lobster had been slightly more cracked since I did manage to send the claw flying into my lap as I was trying to crack it open. But I guess that challenge is part of the meal! All in all it truly was a ridiculously good meal, worth every star. It is a little pricey (Seafood paella for just under $40) so it will not be a place to go for a quick bite, but more likely for the occasional nice dinner with friends and family. read more

Had the Paella a la Marinera and it was very tasty and filled with a ton of seafood. Hefty portions and definitely could've shared it with another person. Table shared garlic and shrimp, stuffed mushrooms and calamari. All seasoned well and tasted good but not phenomenal. Red sangria was great. A little stronger than expected but had a lot of fruit in it. Waitstaff was nice and attentive but a little hard of hearing so you had to speak up loudly for them to hear you. As I have said before this is still one of my most favorite places to eat. The Red Snapper baked in a clay pot is still amazing, it flakes apart like nothing, and the sauce it is amazing as well.
