We ordered a dinner salad, fish tacos, mozzarella sticks, fish and chips with coleslaw. Ingredients were fresh and high quality. Fish is local (Rogue/Bay Front), salad greens were fresh and sauces were home made. Fish tacos were good, hard to make a mistake there. Coleslaw was fresh and crisp. Menu offered salads, sandwiches, soup and appetizers. Reasonable prices. Our server was a bit brisk and distracted while taking our order. As she walked away, I noted she was busy and she replied that an order was up that she needed to serve. She recovered nicely though and we realized that she is the only one there aside from the cook. This course was built in like 1955, so it is tight in a number of areas. Plenty of opportunities to lose golf balls as the are streams running all around the place and the rough is, well, the rough. One of the holes you have to walk out and see the hole out about 150 yards and guesstimate where you are going as you are about 80 or so feet above the green. A fun course with no frills and plenty of nice scenery. It appears the restaurant is only open certain times of the year as it was closed when I went here. Nice pro shop with friendly help. Give this one a try, but bring plenty of extra balls!

10127 Yaquina Bay Rd, Newport, OR 97365 44.5915° N,…read more123.9426° W Water temp 58-64 degrees range This park is easy to get to by paved road, but watch carefully for the entrance. It would be very easy to drive right past it. The entrance is basically a single-lane grassy, rocky dirt road that leads back to a somewhat hidden parking area. We arrived on a Sunday in late August and practically had the place to ourselves, minus one couple who were leaving as we arrived. The gravel parking area looks like it could comfortably handle about 8-10 normal-size cars, or perhaps 6-8 pickups/SUVs. Having a clean and stocked vault toilet at such a small park was also a nice bonus. This was really a scouting trip for us to determine whether Paddle Park would be a usable launch point for our kayaks, and I'm happy to report that it is. There is a fairly long, secure wooden boardwalk leading from the park out to the dock. If you use a kayak trolley like we do, the distance should not be much of a problem. The floating dock itself felt sound and secure, and it even has a kayak launch-assist device alongside it. See the photos. The setting opens directly onto the Yaquina River and looks like a promising place for us to return and actually put the kayaks in the water. One thing we learned while researching the area is that the tides matter here. Information we found suggested planning around the high tide--potentially launching a couple of hours before high tide depending upon which direction you intend to paddle--rather than treating this like kayaking on a lake or reservoir. Of course, coastal river kayaking adds another level of preparation. Checking the tide tables, wind, weather and water temperature, along with wearing the appropriate clothing, PFD and other safety gear, can make the difference between simply getting on the water and having a prepared and enjoyable kayaking outing. For us, Paddle Park passed the scouting test. We'll be back with the kayaks.

Any MTBers thinking to shred down 5 miles of Mary's Peak technical trail will enjoy the ride. We…read moreparked on the north side, Woodcreek Rd off of Hwy 20. Then we pedaled 7 miles up. Enjoyed the view and had lunch. After lunch we descend onto the trail. It was a 5 mile technical ride due to small and not so small tree roots along the trail. If you're not quick to maneuver through tree roots and rocks this trail is not fun for you. If you want a slow technical ride Mary's Peak is not for you. You can drive to the top from the south side-- Mary's Peak Rd off of Hwy 34. Then you would also have to drive another car an hour away to the north side. That's where the trail ends. Unfortunately the fire road is locked up so the shortest route is an hour from Mary's Peak Rd to Woodcreek Rd.

Without confirmation, I proceeded and without incident arrived solo at Conner's Trailhead. At this point, I attempted calling the lead, who started their ascent along the summit trail. Still no contact, which usually indicated that I had not gone far enough. The lure of an artesian spring led to a brief stop and subsequent text- "Hey guys, where are you? Was it a scrub?" The sound of crunching gravel beneath my tires on the shoulder calmed my nerves a bit. That, and the fascination of an artesian well flowing off a mountainside. Two stops before the parking lot above, I encountered a small group of campers. At the Campsite, the chemical toilet was a welcome amenity. I usually find the camp signs to be interesting reading, and probably spotted the dogs on leashes or notification right away. Last stop before the top and still no word. The parking lot above is open with minimal vehicle activity. Trails are well marked and spring abounds. I set off toward the There is a group of 10-12 hikers flopped on their day packs sipping water, nibbling munchies, regarding the city beneath fog. It's also the rooster crew looking for photo ops taking a break. Several call out to me, "Look who it is." I'm splurging now on red and green Holiday Reindeer gummies and taking sips from the Camelbak. Although my trip was much shorter, uncertainty multiplied the effects of altitude. It's good to see these faces becoming more familiar in this outdoor light. I recommend familiarity with the Internet trail maps in preparation for the Mary's Peak trip. I like to have face to face contact and phone checks with others, a pancho, and small flashlight. Water, and something to chew on is a good idea. Check with the park website for rules regarding your pets. Be safe, have fun!

This is a great trail along the ocean in Yachats. It begins in a neighborhood and takes you down to…read morethe beach where you can see tidepools. There are a few benches along the trail where you can sit and relax and take in the gorgeous ocean view. It's most popular in the mornings, for tidepools, and evenings, for beautiful sunsets. The trail is pretty flat and expands about 2 miles. It connects to a couple of other trails in Yachats to the south, the Oregon Coast Trail (1 mile) and the Amanda Trail (1 mile). The trails are well maintained and perfect for a casual walk to take in the fresh ocean air. I would highly recommend!

I've returned to this magnificent trail so many times over the years - my review is long overdue…read morebut it's kind of a hidden gem and I'm hoping it'll stay that way lol! This is probably my #1 fave trail of all time. It's not technically difficult by any means - it's short, almost entirely flat, and very well maintained. But it holds my heart bc there's a veritable feast for my lens in every nook and cranny and the environment changes year after year due to storms, tides, and sand levels rising and falling - a never ending photographer's paradise! And no doubt I'll be returning year after year for a long time. The trail runs about 1.5 miles from the sleepy coastal town of Yachats to its dead-end on a long sandy beach in the Cape Perpetua protected marine area. To say the tide pools here are amazing is an understatement. They are unparalleled! I've never seen so many colorful starfish, anemones, snails, barnacles, and tons of other undersea creepy crawlers anywhere else. The sunset and sunrise views are magical as well. And there are interesting pockets and tunnels created by mysterious wind swept coastal pines - just glorious! The giant dark basalt boulders are covered in so many species of barnacles and always changing shape due to erosion from wind and waves - creating so many fascinating pools to explore. The trail meanders past my fave hotel of all time too - the Overleaf Lodge. This is my happy place - my heart is always here. If you ever have the chance to visit, take it.

There she blows!!!! Really cute, tiny park in the town of Yachats - more of an art piece than a…read moretrue "park" but still fun for a quick visit - especially for the kids! There's a large, steel whale tale coming out of the grass. And in the summer, every couple of minutes, a spout of water sprays way up into the air - just like a whale "blows" haha! It almost looks like someone's yard. But it's right along the 101 and you can't miss it if you're walking around the cute little town. Definitely worth passing by just for fun - especially for families with kids.

Being an Elk Member and I was not far away, I had to come check out the campgrounds…read more Make sure you have the correct address. The campgrounds sign is hard to see from the street. There is a small Elk sign near the street at the entrance but I think it's easy to miss. There are a couple kids play structure for the little ones. Each campsite has a fire pit and a picnic table. I'm not sure if all the sites are RV ready. Some campsite driveways were better suited for heavy vehicles. There is a building with showers and bathrooms but on the other side of the campgrounds is just a "Porta-potty." Better than walking the distance at night. The river is within view. There is a huge grassy area that I'm not sure what it's used for. Kids playing for now.
