Stopped in for lunch at the suggestion of my fiancé. This is their regular stop. Family of staff were tremendously, friendly, and service was good. The inside is a typical family style restaurant where half is dining and the other half is them living their lives. I have no problem with that as that's what we are all trying to do. Came here to eat as a quick stop on my way to Verona, New York... This place has very very good lunch prices.(didn't see the lunch prices on the actual menu, but they are on yelp.) As for what we ordered, we ordered the two sushi rolls and the spicy honey chicken. Sushi was done nicely good flavor, tight rolls. as for the spicy honey chicken, which came with a small bowl of hibachi rice rice was good definitely had that nice hibachi taste. In Ilion doing training and felt like sushi. This place in Herkimer came up with some great ratings. We are starting out in a good way. They have a heavy Japanese accent and I asked for the naruto roll and although not on menu, they are making it for me. If you do t know what this is, well you will have t check out the picture. Started with small salad and miso soup. Nix the miso soup. The spicy tuna was delicious but could had been a touch more spicy. Also four rolls seems a little on the short side for me. The tuna roll was delicious and volcano roll hit the spot. All in all good tasting smaller portions hence the four star. I'd stop here again passing through. Saw the reviews on Yelp and decided to stop in here on my way home from Albany. It was getting late and I was starving! We were greeted at the door immediately. At 8 pm there were only two other people in the restaurant. We looked over the menu and everything sounded so good! I ordered seaweed salad and 3 sushi rolls. The seaweed salad was a good size and I loved it. It is always one of my favorites. The 3 rolls came with either soup or salad. I had the salad because I love the ginger dressing that always comes on them. Then attacked the sushi. All of it was very good. Even though I was starving I could not finish it because it was just too much food. I wish l liked leftover sushi because I would have taken it home, but I cannot eat it unless it is fresh. Soooo I forced myself to eat most of it. I was stuffed, but happy :) My boyfriend got a bento box and it came with soup and salad. He dug right in and enjoyed his as well. We both ended up with a firecracker roll and what surprised me is that it was served hot. I had never eaten sushi at that temperature but was very good! It was also his favorite. I am excited because when I go to Albany I usually make a "pit stop" in Herkimer. And I love sushi. I think I have now found my "go to" place when I get off that exit. The only complaint I have is that it took a really long time to get out of there once we were done. It was the end of the night and they were cleaning up. We had to wait for a box for his to go. Then we had to wait for the bill. Then we had to wait an even longer time to have them cash us out. For several minutes both the sushi chef and the wait staff were not in the room at all and we were just waiting and waiting to get on our way back home. I am sure they wanted to get all their work done so they could close on time too...so cannot really blame them...we we still had a long drive ahead. Cute little hole in the wall that's easy to get to from the Thruway. Stopped in to tame a sushi craving, and was greeted by a very busy waitress who was manning the entire restaurant, but seemed to be well known and liked by the locals. The sushi was great, I didn't get too adventurous and just stuck with some spicy tuna and salmon, but their specialty rolls sounded awesome! (Darn avocado allergy! :( ) Got a stir-fried using dish as well, but it didn't have much flavor at all and the beef was really chewy. Best sushi in the valley. Volcano roll is my favorite. Sweetest owners as well! We enjoy going here for date night before COVID but now have it delivered for an eat in night. It consisted of a red dragon roll (shrimp tempura inside spicy tuna outside), avocado peanut roll, volcano roll appetizer (which she told us was white fish inside deep fried), two pieces of sushi (I think tuna and salmon), a soup AND salad. Lots of food for $18. All delicious. The spicy tuna was excellent! The volcano roll was very tasty. My husband got a Maki roll combo he said the rolls were good. The beer was buy one get one free! 4 bucks for two bottles of corona, that's a good deal. My children shared an order of edamame and a kids meal of lo mein with chicken and French fries. My dad eats here a couple times a week, and I've been here about half a dozen times with him. The sushi is very fresh, and the prices are pretty affordable. The menu has a lot of pictures, and the more fancifully named rolls tell you what's in them. Sushi after all, isn't just about fish. There are options that don't include fish, cooked or otherwise. Or even any meat at all. They have appetizers and stand alone items, but the menu mostly consists of box meals. They have chicken or salmon teriyaki, tempura, fried rice and more. I usually get a 2 sushi roll box, dad gets the 3. The 2/3 roll boxes come with a choice of a few different rolls. Vegetable, California, Avocado, Peanut Avocado (love this), Philadelphia and a couple others. You get miso soup before your box. The box comes with a simple salad and these delicious warm tempura-ed rolls, I think they're called special dragon. They also carry Ramune soda, which is a guilty pleasure. And ice cream - red bean, green tea and another flavor (probably vanilla). Regular or fried. The staff are very friendly. read more

Awesome sushi in Herkimer is just one of those weird things in the world that no one can explain. The sushi is consistently fresh and high quality. They clearly take great pride in preparing their food. If you don't like fish, there are plenty of other dishes on the menu. There are a lot of rolls with cooked seafood if you're squeamish about eating it raw. The food is always made with fresh ingredients. I can understand being skeptical of Herkimer sushi, but I've eaten here countless times and continue to be impressed with the quality. The Tempura Udon is really good. I wish they had more non-sushi dishes like the Udon. Hopefully someday they'll expand the menu. For now, there's plenty of great rolls on the menu. It's really a unique restaurant. The atmosphere is very relaxing and almost like a log cabin. I always feel like I want to go to sleep when I'm done eating. read more

Thank god we ordered some things from the kitchen menu because we would've walked out as soon as the hour mark passed. They're complaining that it's extremely busy, when there was about 8 people in the restaurant. The sushi chef is extremely slow, taking his sweet time. I've never been to such a disorganized restaurant, where the waitresses are so confused that they almost served another table our food, and when we claimed it, it took her about 3 minutes to realize she should probably lay the food down on the table. Probably one of the better Asian restaurants in the area. I won't eat sushi anywhere else besides Tokyo because it's always tasty and fresh. They have a wide variety of choices and styles to choose from. My alltime favorite meal there is the Chefs Special Tokyo Spicy Chicken. It comes with this spicy red dipping sauce that tastes great. The fried rice is also amazing! The waitresses and staff are also very nice and professional. The only reason I don't give this place 5 stars is because they've raised their dinner prices and removed some of the good deals. For example, for the first few years they were open, they had a dinner specials called Bento Box. There were several varieties but you could get the Tokyo Spicy Chicken, Miso or Clear soup, a side salad, edamame beans, and 4 pieces of California Roll sushi all for one price. They no longer do this. Your best bet is going to this place for lunch, because then you get a meal, soup and salad and rice. If you go during dinner you have to choose the soup or salad. Both isn't an option. Great tasting food though, will always be a loyal customer. read more

Have been ordering from Tokyo Sushi for about two years. My experience over time has been less and less appealing when it comes to the quality of the sashimi it has become very inconsistent. My last 15 piece order had about 6 quality bites; the rest was completely inedible. I certainly do not consider only receiving 14 pieces acceptable nor do I consider imitation crab or a sorry looking butterflied shrimp to be quality sushi.
