But while on the outside things, may look mediocre and sub-par, this place is still worthwhile to try, serving up average Thai food at a reasonable price and service with a smile. I tried the coconut prawn cutlets and the golden parcels for entree. The prawns were indeed very coconutty, heavily coated in coconut and crumb batterred and fried. The parcels were shaped like a tied up bag, a sweet minced pork and nut paste inside, which sounds strangely like dessert, but with the pork and pastry, went well as an entree to get the appetite going. For mains, I tried the basil beef and duck red curry. The basil beef (supposed to be a stir fry of beef with basil and veggies) wasn't anything worth remembering (unfortunately the beef had lots of tendons still running though each piece and were therefore chewy). However, the duck red curry was very well cooked, with the duck meat being tender and the curry sauce was just amazing even though leaning a bit to much towards the sweet side (nevertheless, I could probably finish a whole rice cooker's worth of rice with just the sauce!). In fact, sweetness seems to be a common theme through the different types of curries, which may appeal to some. I however, prefer different types of curries to have something to distinguish between the types. Overall, the food was good (minus the beef dish and curry sauce sweetness). The setting is pretty casual and relaxing, especially since the tables are set outside (which can get awkward in bad weather). The servers are nice, friendly and helpful. There are obviously good reasons why this little place is ever so popular with the locals (I have yet to see them quiet) so definitely worthy for a try.

Thinking about the amount I paid for the buffet, I decided to begin with seafood. The prawns, spanner crab and bug were all very fresh. However, I could not get past the huge baked salmon. It was absolutely delightful, and became my staple food for the evening. Finally, it was desert time. The cupcakes, slices, brownies, chocolate lollipops, chocolate fountain and cheese (just to name a few items in this huge desert selection) were all divine. My dinner expanded to about 6 courses (3 of which being desert and cheese). At first look, this buffet is quite expensive. However, when you arrive, you will realise this is quite good value. If you stay anywhere surrounding Sanctuary Cove, you must try the Cove Cafe seafood buffet.

Service was good but we did wait a little while for our mains, however I would put this down to how early we were. Chowder was great, nice chunky seafood and a tasty sauce. Bread wasn't anything amazing but still nice, . the platter however was huge! Fruit, salad and seafood all served up in a decadent looking dish. The main buffet was a collection of over cooked salmon, tasty veal, chicken, tough chewy steak and tragically over cooked lamb cutlets. The sides were pretty boring - steamed or roasted vegetables. A walk up and down the strip reading menus and surveying the scene landed me at Shuck Restaurant and Bar. I started with a half of a dozen oysters. I wanted to try both the Sydney Rock and Natural Pacific and they were kind enough to serve me three of each. The Pacifics were oyster perfection - briny and meaty and tasting fresh from the sea. The Sydneys were not to my taste - somewhat flavorless and a bit sweet if anything. To each their own....YMMV. I followed them with the Moreton Bay Bug Tempura served in an onion salad with nori and a wasabi sauce. The bugs were fried lusciousness and the salad a tasty crunchy accompaniment. In a perfect world there would have been less sauce (and perhaps more wasabi in the sauce)...but that isn't really a complaint so much as a note for next time. I chose an Ara Chardonnay to accompany my meal. In a perfect world a Chenin Blanc would be offered...but I've since learned that neither Australia nor New Zealand grows a lot of the grape. The atmosphere is fun and open - I had an exterior table and watched the world walk by. The service was wonderful.

Hooo-boy. Mediocre food, snarky service. -250 stars…read more To preface: I order from this thai place once a fortnight as a treat to myself. Sometimes picking it up is too difficult for my work/uni schedule so I'll have the order delivered to my home. It's the only truly local thai place in my area so despite the food being pretty good but not great, I'd always re-order. To deliver the food there's a minimum of $50, which I understand for customers out of the area. I even understand it for customers in the area (my suburb is large) and that's why I always pay it, despite living a very short five streets away (less than 5 minutes drive). In all, at Tuk Tuk Thai Bistro in Pacific Pines, I'll spend roughly $50 per fortnight. I've done this for one year. If my math is sound, this means I've spent a rough $1300 on food from this establishment. I guess you could venture to say I am* their most regular and loyal customer. *was Before tonight's absolute slap to the face, I've had a couple of crappy experiences with less than prompt pick up times when I have gone in to get my order. I actually fell into a routine where I'd call ahead to make sure my stuff was ready to go before I got there since their tardiness was so anticipated. On one of the occasions where the food was prepared too early/too late, the woman working actually threw my tempura vegetable order out because it'd "gone soggy" despite me being on time for pick up. She told me I could just order something else but if I wanted more tempura I'd need to wait a while. I'd way rather my soggy tempura over the weird, size-of-a-rocket booster spring rolls she was offering in it's place. But I couldn't wait and ended up just taking what was ready. Tonight when placing an order online via Eat Now for delivery, I accidentally hit the option for pick up. After placing a $32.80 order, I called to let the lady on the phone know that I'd made the error. I hadn't even expected her to allow me to switch the order to delivery, I was going to ask her to add a fried rice, but the instantaneous way in which she reacted, barking at me that "DELIVERY MUST BE $50. SORRY. YOU WILL NEED TO ORDER MORE THINGS. OK???? OK?" was really provoking. I reminded her that since she knew me and knew that I lived down the street, it wouldn't be absolutely out of line to think she'd allow the order to be delivered without meeting the $50 just one time. I was only calling to correct the order, but still, the view was expressed. She then mentioned a $6 delivery fee and something about the rest being for petrol. $18 for petrol to drive three streets, eh? She then mentioned something about insurance and if they crashed. It was an odd tangent, so I said I'd pay it. She scoffed and told me to order more food. Am I confused or was I now being told I couldn't just pay the remainder? I told her that she was acting in a manner that was putting me off ordering ever again, and since I order so freakishly often, would she reconsider her demeanour. Nope; apparently not. I asked if perhaps I could speak with the manager or owner. She laughed and told me she is "the lady boss" there and everywhere, whatever "everywhere" means. And then she hung up. She hung up on a customer who'd paid, wasn't receiving any food, whose conflict hadn't been resolved and whose refund had not been given. She hung up with my money. I called back a few minutes later and a guy answered the phone instead. I re-explained the situation. His care factor was less than zero. It was so less than zero you'd think it was an Arctic temperature reading. I'm a repeat-repeat-repeat customer that these people know by name. $1300 worth of food ordered! He told me that if I "wanted a refund" I'd have to contact Eat Now since I placed the order through them. Then he made some comment about how when people order online it means that they "don't *even* see that money for 8 weeks." Boo-hoo! What's that got to do with me? Use e-commerce on Wordpress, guy. Don't outsource and whinge about it. He hung up on me too. For tempura vegetables, coconut rice and a yellow curry with potato pieces that always taste like the smell of gas from a bunsen burner, I'm not sure I should have been made to feel like I was disrespecting Will and Kate's personal thai chef at Tuk Tuk all over a miserable $18, especially when you factor in $1300 and the fact I was ultimately willing to pay.
