Glass windows wrap the Barn with huge Windows on left and a large dining table with large pot plants in the middle of the room as its centre pieces. cudos to the interior designer as the busy layout fully utilised the floor space whilst maintaining the feel of an open plan. Taking advantage of the high ceiling and glass windows creating a flowing aspect that leads your gaze through to the vineyard itself. Dining here was a wonder in itself. The Autumn menu was quite interesting, for $60 pax.. you get to choose an entree and main. It also comes with 2 great sides a salad (forgot description, it wasnt ur woollies mixed salad bag variety) and potatoes with garlic n herb confit. we chose the kingfish and free range suckling pig as entree and for mains we ordered the lamb and barramundi. Have to say we were very impressed by the quality of the produce and the culinary skills of the chefs. The use of a pickled apple salad mixed with I think water crest? in the square of suckling pig was amazing!!! the pork meat was tight with hardly any fat on it at all. It wasn't dry, quite succulent and if u went a little crazy on the bread, it could easily be your main :) .... noooo .. I didn't go crazy on the bread.. I held back on asking for a third serving ;) (which I might add was reaally good.) as for the other entree I didn't get a chance to sample any of it cus it was all gone by the time I realised I should try it. I'm assured that it was great too! I didn't make the same mistake with the mains mind you :) The lamb ..... what can I say .. was hearty and really hit the spot. Slightly a bit overdone to medium.. would have been better if a bit more pink. But nonetheless was pretty good. the side pea salad was interesting and did wonders to balance out the heaviness of the lamb. The barramundi I have to say although yum! could be better. The skin could do with a sprinkle of sea salt and grilled to a crisp. Overall for $60 for 2 courses, was I think on the mark considering the quality and 2 accompanying sides. What I thought was lacking however was the picturesque vineyard scenery. Stones vineyard was ok but others like Tarrawarra and De Bortelli are better for this.

Every now and then you have a dining experience that makes you feel just a 'lil bit like Kate…read moreMiddleton, for me it was this past weekend at The Stones. I went along with a group of seven and upon entry we were guided to the private dining room - THE PRIVATE DINING ROOM. I felt so damn fancy. The Stones is set up tapas-style, with huge boards of cheese, charcuterie, taramasalata, lamb shoulder and even fried chicken being placed down in front of us - all for only $50 per person. Drinks-wise we consumed a bottle or three of locally-produced sparkling wine and rosé, plus a few sneaky Pimms cocktails on the side. It truly was an indulgent day! Staff were incredible - truly knowledgeable about what they were serving and able to make some great wine suggestions based off the meal. A wedding was due to commence after our meal and the staff asked us to move on so very kindly that we were happy to go to the more casual venue next door. HOWEVER, and I would never normally do this, one staff member who appeared to be an event manager of the wedding was *incredibly* rude to our group as we were walking towards the car. This really put a dampner on what was otherwise a wonderful day.
