Stayed here this past week for one night. Building and rooms are really dated. Bed was comfy for the most part but sloped downward so you're head was lower than the rest of your body which was annoying. Bathroom was the worst - toilet rocked back and forth and was very low to the ground. The shower was super old and the floor felt like it was going to fall through. No microwave in the room. AC got cold but took a long while. Room actually did have a suitcase rack which was nice! Haven't seen one in so long. I did not go to the Field for any meals so I can't remark on that. Front desk staff was great, I left my key in the room and it was an easy ask to get a new key. Plenty of parking.

I'm giving it a 5 star , simply for the front desk. Destiny and Colin alone were enough to keep me returning, very wonderful people.

It's got a big golf section, all the baller stuff, lots of workout clothes. It has some exercise machines, but frankly I would have expected more. The main area I like to go to is the lodge. That's where the hunting and fishing stuff is. This is central pennsylvania and we are in the middle of hunting terretory, but you can't get guns anywhere else in state college. Too many college students and liberal professors, I guess. Anyway, it's the closest place around that has guns and ammo, so it's where I always end up. They have a pretty good selection. A big wall there with a representative sample of any kind of gun you might want and then they have a bunch in the back. The people are always real friendly and have been willing to take the time to show me all their guns and discuss with me. I haven't yet purchased one, but I probably will soon. It's a bit annoying, though, that they have guards over all the triggers, you can't really get a sense of what they feel like. To me it seems a little paranoid. There are plenty of other shops in the world that don't have those guards and they aren't getting shot up by deranged customers all the time. They have an ok selection of hunting clothes, gun safes, and other such stuff as well. They have a reasonable, but not great, selection of ammo. The staff is nice all over the store. I go there with my 5-year-old daughter sometimes and they don't get too annoying when she wanders down the isle. This being the East coast everyone likes to get in your business and bug you when your kids wander around. Anyway, these guys are some of the least bad. Every time I go there, the place is almost empty. Maybe I go at strange times, but there are practically always as many employees as customers.

If you are a golf player and are looking to get a club fixed by the pro, don't even try. Just go…read moresomewhere else. The pro genuinely is never in. I tried on 3 different occasions and on the third the manager just told me to order the shaft and do it myself. Even the manager realizes that the pro overcharges for the simple tasks he is charged to complete. Shout out to the manager for doing my friend's grip. The pro is so unreliable that the manager has to take on extra responsibility. Good on him. I mean you would expect a "PRO" to actually be in the golf section. As a student it is not easy to get off campus to the Dick's(Properly named) so getting an uber is not ideal. Just go to a pga or the penn state course, or do it yourself because the pro is extremely unreliable.

Tussey Mountain Ski Area

I've come to respect smaller, local mountains like Tussey. No, they aren't going to draw numbers by…read moretheir 500-foot vertical drops, but for a few hours with feet in the bindings, hills such as this are great. Much better to have them nearby than...not skiing! I've always wondered about Tussey after knowing the family who owned it in the '80's- the Aicholtz, or something like that-who went on to own Blue Marsh Ski Area, where I worked for a season. Recent trips to PSU have piqued that interest, and a free Saturday before THON Hoops on Sunday was a no brainer. Kids and dad are skiing! It was a really good day. Let me hit the main points below... Pros: 1. Layout of facility: Parking is close very to lodge and base of hill...two rows away close. Ticket shop and rental shops are well marked. No crazy uphill climbs to get to the lift. Logical layouts, bathrooms accessible. 2. Reasonable Prices: Rentals were $31; noon to 5 lift ticket was $30. Combined, this is cheaper than Elk's lift ticket alone! Rentals were a bit steep, but the cheap lift ticket absorbs it. 3. Terrain: Ok, only 5 runs, granted. However, for 5 runs, one is a beginner (Deer Run), two are great intermediates with wide runs and decent drops (Utah and Tuscarora), and one with decent moguls (Grizzly). Plus, Tuscarora and Utah have cool terrain park elements. Overall, for 5 runs they are varied and interesting. Oh, and a beginner hill...didn't spend time there. Cons: 1. Food: One rather nasty hamburger was consumed ($4) before we purchased the rest of the meals from a vendor outside on the patio outside the lodge...which was really good. Choose this option! 2. Lack of vertical: 500 feet go by quickly, but short lift lines and a quick ride to the top means you're back on your skis quickly! Longest trail is .75 mile. Other: 1. Clientele: Lots of college kids here- no surprise. There was some yahoo-ish-ness from some of the skiers and boarders, typical for a college town. Also some really talented skiers and boarders! 2. Snow: decent conditions for a 40-degree day. Good snow pack, with one bald-spot wearing through. Some ice at the top. 3. Lodge: Definitely smallish, lacking in character...but clean, with some good views. Wife spent most of the day inside with #3 non-skiing son, and was grateful for the wifi. 4. Rental Shop: Small space, cramped, but it does the job. Newer looking skiis. 5. Staff: Call this one neutral; not overtly friendly. Lack of visible ski patrol members; usually, they are busy training and practicing hauling injury dummies down the mountain. Very few present today. Verdict: Locals should be grateful for this hill; it serves a purpose. It offers decent enough skiing without the drive, perfect for a few hours in the afternoon or evening. Odds are we will be back, as it was a perfect venue for our kids to further their skills.

It got dark, the course was packed and they refused to turn on lights despite it being open until 9. Workers were super rude and seemingly drunk. They crashed the golf carts they were trying to park onto the desk and utility poles. Stick to Happy Valley Mini Golf- this place is a joke.
