Crew Kids Choice Daycare

I am very pleased with Crew Kids, and most importantly, so are my children. My daughter was at…read moredaycare in Philadelphia when we lived in the city, and she cried a lot when we dropped her off. But both my kids (ages 1 and 3 now) have from day 1 been very happy at Crew Kids. In fact, I don't think I've ever witnessed a tearful drop-off by any of the families. And in the drop-off chaos of the mornings and evenings, the television is on, sure, but I don't mind because my kids come home having learned things--counting, spelling basics, or in my youngest's case, how to clap and dance. The daycare arranges parties and special guests like Makin' Music. It has a great outdoor space, and the owner, Sonya, keeps the facility clean and updated with the latest gear and toys. All the employees really care about the children. That's not the case at all daycares. Childcare of any kind--whether a nanny or a daycare--must be a good fit with the parent(s). Maybe Crew Kids isn't for everyone, but for my children and me it's perfect, and I am grateful to have them.

Trusting this daycare was the greatest mistake I ever made. The manager, Ms. Sonya, and her…read moredaughter run the daycare and cut all kinds of corners! They may be smooth talkers and present themselves well but we have learned it is a complete facade! We toured the facility and I saw mouse glue traps under the dressers with bait! That should have been the first sign. On top of the outdated building, Ms. Sonya clearly does not care about customer satisfaction when she is talking with parents - and does not care about the children's development. I've seen her leave the children outside for hours in the scorching heat in June! I actually learned she withheld my children's juice after I had packed their lunchboxes because they complained of being thirsty every day at pick up! Her reasoning was that she did not want them to have an accident. So she dehydrated my young children, against my will, so she wouldn't have to clean up a mess when we are asked to provide a change of clothes anyway? She never allowed us to meet the women taking care of our babies, either. I never knew their names until I had to ask. I feel so bad for the women working there! They must be taken advantage of on a daily basis. I will NEVER suggest this place to anyone after our experience.

My husband and I feel so fortunate that we were able to send our son to the Walden School. They…read morecreated an environment that allowed my kind-hearted, shy, socially anxious son to thrive. They allow the students to explore; they encourage them to speak up & speak out; they take an interest in them inside and outside of school & they really foster a culture of diversity and understanding of differences. Prior to coming to Walden, my son attended K-1st grade at a school that just wasn't up to par academically & where we felt our son got lost in the shuffle. Here, everyone knows him by name, makes an effort to know us as parents and really digs deep to understand how they can best help each individual child. I especially love that the way they teach isn't just by lecture, sitting at a desk staring at a chalkboard, but through hands-on projects, exploration & using sensory and tactile items to accommodate different learning styles.

There's definitely some misleading information on the school's website. This school is not…read moreaccessible to everyone--if you're not wealthy or able to afford $18,000 for pre-K, it may not be worth your time or money. I was told directly by the enrollment office " Kathy" that the school "can't survive" by offering financial aid, which was very discouraging. After applying for financial aid, I never received a formal decision, even though I was told it had been mailed. Instead, I received a random refund amount with no explanation. Throughout the process, the enrollment officer frequently changed her statements and would not acknowledge the inconsistencies. To be clear: I believe the school itself is strong, and the teachers seem genuinely dedicated and hardworking. But the enrollment process, especially my experience with the enrollment officer, was disorganized and unprofessional. If you choose to apply, I strongly recommend documenting everything and keeping all communication in writing.
