After having dinner next door at a Korean spot for my friend's birthday, I decided to stop by Tocumbo for dessert, and I'm so glad I did! The girl behind the counter was not only super friendly but also gave me a little history lesson about the business, which originated in Michoacán, Mexico. I love learning about where places come from, so that was a nice touch! She was quick to offer a couple of samples, and after trying a few, I settled on the Bubulubu flavor--yes, the Mexican candy turned into ice cream. And wow, it was delicious! Plus, the scoop was massive! The ambiance was nice and cozy, though it seemed a bit slow when I was there. I really hope they get more business because the ice cream is top-notch. Definitely worth checking out if you're craving something sweet with a Mexican twist--especially after dinner!

We happened to pass by this place whilewe we were in the shopping center. The owner was super friendly and took time to talk to us and tell us about what they have. They had agood variety of stuff (pops, milkshakes, agua frescas) and they make their own ice cream. We ended up getting a few of their pops and they were soooooo good! We'll definitely be back!

The Oreo ice cream is the best ice cream I have ever had. Don't make the mistake of ordering any other flavor.

The Oreo ice cream is the best ice cream I have ever had. Do not make the mistake of ordering anything else. It melts in your mouth. We will definitely be back for more. I only wish I could have taken some home with me.

Amazing customer service! We wandered in 5 min before closing and the guy still let me ask tons of questions and let me try all the options I wasn't familiar with. Everything was so tasty!! We ended up ordering the Canastita Michoacána. You get 3 scoops of your choice of (only Lord knows how many) wonderfully delicious flavors of ice cream. I chose Guanabana, passion fruit and mango. 2 choices of fruit topping, I chose papaya and mango. Topped with whipped cream and strawberry syrup in a waffle bowl . Everything tastes so heavenly! Of course you may encounter some seeds depending on what you order, but that's how you know you are eating REAL fruit! The store has a cute ambiance and there is plenty of seating for those who want to dine in. Do yourself a favor this summer and stop by when you get a chance! You will not be disappointed!

My recent visit to the National City, Plaza blvd location was such a treat and I was absolutely *mad* for everything I tried. lol! So I had the Tiger Boba Latte --also known as the "Brown Sugar Boba Latte"--and it was so good. The brown sugar syrup brought the perfect depth of sweetness, not overpowering but just enough to make each sip rich and satisfying. The boba pearls were the highlight, absolutely *perfect*. Unlike the often hard, chewy boba you might find at other places, these were fresh, warm, and soft, bursting with flavor. They had that wonderful melt-in-your-mouth quality that makes you keep reaching for more. This drink alone is worth the visit. If you love boba, you know that the quality and freshness of these sweet tapioca pearls is everything. *chef's kiss* And speaking of must-try items, the Ahboong (the Korean fish-shaped pastry) is something you have to try. We always get at least two during our visits, and for good reason. The soft, golden pastry is filled with the most indulgent, smooth filling. It's the perfect sweet bite. If you've been to Somi-somi, these are similar, if not better. But the true crowd pleaser is the Nutella Taiyaki. If you're a fan of Nutella, this is the one to get. The taiyaki (the fish-shaped waffle cone) is warm, golden, and crispy on the outside, while the Nutella filling inside is hot, rich, and gooey--melting with every bite. It's a little messy but totally worth it. Ok, it can get really messy if you're excited to eat it like I was lol. So make sure you grab enough napkins. You can also get them filled with different flavors, like custard, but come on, you know Nutella is where it's at! All in all, Mad For Cheesecake has something for every sweet tooth, from its drink offerings to pastries. It's not just about cheesecakes (though those are probably excellent too, I'm gonna try it next time!), but the whole experience is what keeps me coming back. Highly recommend visiting for a sweet, satisfying experience you'll want to repeat again and again.

I went here right at closing with a few friends and picked up some ice cream to go. I was immediately greeted, asked what I wanted, and received my ice cream very quickly. I was really impressed by the number of flavors that they offered, and just the delicious creaminess of the ice cream. I had a caramel ice cream, and a chocolate brownie mocha that was incredible. Reasonably priced, great tasting ice cream, and just a fun little place to visit.

I saw a recent social media posting that this OG and last remaining location of Hammond's Gourmet…read moreIce Cream would be closing at the end of this weekend. That prompted me to make a final visit as I used to frequent the PB store when it was still around. The original Vietnamese owner started the business in 2014 by sourcing unique flavors from Hawaii. With more competition and inflation, it was sad to hear that Hammond's was no longer able to sustain their mission anymore. I fondly recall one visit in which I came with a large group, and we split a 32-flavor flight. I loved being able to sample all of the different varieties, but it was hard to get to all of them before they started melting. Hammond's was one of the first local ice cream shops that offered flights as an option. The menu here also served floats, shakes, sundaes, and cookie skillets. I don't recall such options at the PB spot which focused on scoops and flights. There were about 30 flavors written on a marker board posted on a wall. The choices didn't seem as fruity or exotic compared to the early days. On this occasion, I opted for a medium sized cup with two different flavors... Mackinac Island Fudge and Strawberry Cheesecake. The first one had swirls of chocolate from the upper peninsula of Michigan mixed in with a vanilla base. The second one was a fairly standard variety that you will find at most ice cream places. I did like the collections of ice cream scoops that were mounted on the walls as decor. This North Park venue had several tables and a countertop for inside seating. It was likely the largest of what was one time three locations of the business. Thank you to Hammond's for your past decade of service to the SD community!
