Have been here many times as it's very local to me and a good value carvery, perfect for a quick dinner when you cannot be bothered to cook or need somewhere you don't need a reservation for.
On every visit it is always busy, lots of seats on bar and restaurant side. The staff are friendly however it can take awhile to be seated or to get their attention. Once seated and your drink arrives, you queue to be served your meat options and then help yourself to the veggie sides. The main can be upgraded to an extra large plate for an extra £1.50 which is probably great for a large man the standard plate is more than enough to me. Sides include roast potatoes, mash, carrots, green beans, cauliflower cheese, red cabbage and yorkshire pudding. Once you have your plate loaded with food, you have beef, chicken and veg gravies to chose from along with bread, mustard, apple, cranberry and mint sauce.
They also do a buffet breakfast which I have had once. The usual suspects were available but unfortunately the breakfast left a lot to be desired. The tea and coffee is unlimited so that's always good, the bacon was soft and thick cut but had no crispy bits at all, the sausages were ok quite herby, the eggs were rubbery (both fried and scrambled) and beans were warm. The tea and toast were the best parts as they are hot and fresh...for the price and it being a buffet it is ideal for a quick cheap, breakfast.
Great for a good value, cheap, quick lunch or dinner. read more
