Such a fun spot. I had heard a lot about The Plough and wanted to see it for myself. Even though I had come in on a slow night I was still treated better than I had ever been in any American pub. Plus it's on the Peep Show tour path in Croydon so had to make the special pilgrimage. Highly recommended!

After being here for four weeks, we stopped in yesterday afternoon to make it happen. I ordered the chicken/pork mix and my husband went with the beef. Each main came with sides of cooked veggies, Yorkshire pudding, golden roasties, all covered in a house-made gravy. Our portions were generous and the gravy, for me, was the highlight; the combination of the potato chunks dipped into the gravy, letting it soak into them, was divine! These two dishes, plus a beer for my husband, came to £26 total. The vibe was casual, with patrons just hanging out at tables, spread out throughout the place. There is a back patio, but we felt it was a bit chilly to dine outside, so we went with an indoor high table in-between the bar and one of the windows facing out front. We truly felt like we got a taste of a typical Sunday afternoon at the local pub. Note: We ordered and paid at the same time up at the bar.

I was really disappointed with my experience today. First outing to a pub after lockdown. All…read morenecessary precautions against Covid were in place which is great. But we were looking forward to a decent meal. £35.00 for a burger and a beer each for 2. Would have been more if VAT was at proper rate. Reduced at present. Chips were soggy and cold. Burger was likewise poor cold with soggy onions gerkin limp lettuce. Should have stuck to original plan of fish and chips from a local fish and chip shop and a couple of beers from local store. Have had this before. Excellent value for less than £20 for two. Not planning a re visit. Sorry. Anil

What do they say "Fur coat and no knickers"! Defiantly suits the restaurant in the hotel. Staff were surely and really could not have been bothered if we had ordered or not and made little effort to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. really just going through the motions. Young ladies with little idea of what service is really about. Food was unmemorable which was disappointing as the decor and location indicated that this establishment was once something. Just as we about to leave a new member of staff arrived to clear and engaged with us and appeared genuinely pleased to see us. Shame her contempories could behave the same way. Return .... unlikely.

I had the misfortune of ordering a steak sandwich. I was asked how I would like my steak, 'medium…read morerare' I replied. The barmaid brought out the cutlery and sauces. I was horrified, the cutlery was filthy. Dried food smeared all over it. Not a great start. After almost an hour of waiting for my delicious piece of medium rare steak in a sandwich (obviously in a decent piece of bloomer or ciabatta) I was produced with a few pieces of dried steak strips, smothered with cheese, in a two slices of cheap bread that had gone hard (probally due to microwaving the 'sandwich' to melt the cheese or leaving the cheap white bread to the elements). Apparently the 'sandwich' was to come with a dressed garnished salad. The salad (undressed) consisted of one ring of red onion, one slice of tomato and one leaf of baby gem lettuce. I could not bring myself to eat it. It was utterly horrendous. After asking for a refund as my food was untouched because of the unedibility, the 'cook' came back out with said food, slammed it down on my table and was so rude I could not believe it. She told me I would get no refund 'just because you dont like it' and stormed off. I couldnt believe it. It was like an episode from Ramseys Kitchen nightmares. If only Gordon was there. He would of thrown it at them. The owner then appeared at the bar from upstairs, hair everywhere as if she had just rolled out of bed (3:30pm). Telling me I was not getting a refund and that the dried microwaved steak slices were perfectly ok and that the bread was not in fact stale (and oh my gosh it was so stale). She came to this conclusion by poking her dirty finger on it. I got no refund or edible food. I left hungry and £6.45 lighter. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. My advice. . . . Return the pool table and forget the food.
