I was tempted by the Three Horseshoes, 'Any meal for a fiver in June' but opted for a Toby Carvery at the motel on the roundabout, opposite Rothwell Sports centre. They were offering a 4-meat carvery for £5.95 with no time restrictions.
This is a very busy place, and well placed between Leeds, Wakefield and Castleford.
On my last visit, on a weekday night, I was greeted by the restaurant manager, who informed me that there was an approximate 10 minute wait for a table. I always take that as a good sign, as people really want to eat here. I was given a 'bleeper', which would alarm when my table was ready. There is large lounge to the right, which acts as a waiting area, complete with bar and a large TV. Real ale is always on, but the service was a bit slow on my night. Whole families were sat around, bleepers in hand, waiting expectantly for the buzz.
The staff are really friendly and efficient and cannot do enough to help. My table was quite close to the carvery, which is very hot, as you would expect, so I may try for one a little further away from the heat next time.
The food is excellent, but the Yorkshires are so big that they cover a third of the plate!
Beef, Pork, Turkey and Ham were the meats on offer, then as many vegetables as you want (or can fit on the plate). There is also a 'Jumbo' carvery on offer, but I couldn't even imagine attempting that. There is also a soft drinks bar, that is great hit with children, as they can 'top-up' their drinks (with ice) to their hearts content.
After finishing my meal, and feeling rather full, my waitress offerred me a complimentary ice cream. How could I refuse?
I would recommend this place to anyone, but it is not really a 'Candlelight for two' venue. read more
