Came by as the last stop on our beach crawl, from Undertow all the way to the Monkey. This is a mostly covered but open air bar/restaurant/concert venue. We've been here a couple of times before and always had a great time. There is a main area downstairs where the bands play with several tables, as well as an interior area (we've never gone in....its FL...who wants to eat/drink/hangout INSIDE? Not us. #pass. There is also an upstairs rooftop bar, which is cozy but has great views. Bartenders do a nice job keeping up with the crowds so the wait for drinks isn't long at all. Foods are tasty here as well. Great place on the inter coastal water. We sat upstairs and had a wonderful view. I got the She Crab soup. I would give it 5 stars and will definitely get it again. Wish the bowl (portion) was bigger but quality made up for it and priced right at only $5.99. Hubby got the grouper sandwich. Unfortunately, he had much better elsewhere. It was dry and pretty small for $20. Rice and beans blah and dry too. Service good and never waited for a drink. We will definitely be back and try a different sandwich. We go here often for a drink or two during or after a bicycle ride, and the place always has fast servers, a super fun/chill crowd just hanging out and having a fun time. Food is mostly great, typical beach bar food, and always served with efficiency. I have to hand it to the (sort of) new owners who took over and made all the little beach bars level up in terms of efficiency. I never minded waiting for food at beach bars but all the places that have been renamed and taken over are doing it right. Always fun local music that's a little less polished but that's why we love it. Ya can't go wrong with Toasted Monkey but I'd guess parking is an issue down there. We ride bikes so... Go, have some fun, drink some beers, eat some food. You'll dig TM. read more

Because we only drank here, I wasn't going to write a review; however, since there are so few recent reviews, I decided I should. (Obviously, the 4-star rating does NOT cover the Scratch Kitchen.) Open Friday & Saturday from 11 AM till 2 AM, & from 11 AM till Midnight all five other nights, we stopped in for drinks prior to our reservation @ a nearby restaurant. According to the business webpage, this is a "casual dining restaurant w/ a fabulous beach feel." It serves "fresh food made in house." I was immediately impressed w/ the interior & exterior esthetics. There's definitely a "beach feel" due to the layout, decor, & paint colors. This is not a dive. Its exterior attracts tourists as well as locals. There is indoor and outdoor seating-- covered & uncovered. (Canines are welcome in covered outdoor areas.) There's a large bar serving handcrafted drinks; bar staff was very friendly. There's also a large outdoor stage w/ daily live music @ 1 PM & 6 PM. This place always has a great vibe. Free parking. Nice views of the waterway. NFL Sunday Ticket for football games. Great live music venue. Super quick service. Food is always very solid. Really enjoyed the Thai Crunch salad. Chicken was crispy and had a nice sweet sauce with a subtle kick. Flavors on the salad were well balanced. Barely needed any dressing. Along with a strangely cool name, the Toasted Monkey also has a cool vibe and is a great place to while away a bit of time and enjoy a cold drink and maybe something to eat. The view is stunning and the vibe puts you right in the middle of a Jimmy Buffett video. You know, just a cool beach bar located smack dab in the middle of paradise. All in all, I would definitely recommend a visit here. Come sit back and maybe take in a sunset and forget the stress of the world, if only for a little while. When I was standing at the counter to order drinks at a place with three empty spaces the Bartender in the darker shirt directed us to stand in a line at the end of the bar, where I assumed was reserved for waiters/waitresses. So, we got in that line and made our way to the front. Then a guy came up from behind and stood next to us and she went straight to him for his order. I quietly said that we were supposed to be next and he said sorry, she knows me. After giving him his drink two other guys walked up to where I was once standing when told to get in line, the same bartender went directly to them to take their order. I then complained to her saying we were next and that she directed us to this line. She refused to talk to me and told the bartender in pink that she refused to serve us do to they way I spoke to her (saying we were supposed to be next). Then the bartender in pink said since she won't serve you neither can I. Not sure what prejudice there was except for maybe my hot date. However, this was a case of pure abusive of position. I have a lot of friends that frequent here and sorry to say, if this type of negative service continues, it will sway my approval of going again. Hoping this was just one (or two) person and not an approved behavior by the management. First time I experienced this in the last 20+ times we've gone there in the last six months. Six of us were looking forward to trying the new location for lunch. Ample free parking, comfortable roomy seating, and beautiful upstairs deck with a great view didn't disappoint. The wings came out as ordered, the peel and eat shrimp were tasty, the fish sandwich and rueben were both delicious. The onion rings were prepared nicely although our order had all huge onions unlike the smaller ones we saw come out at the table next us. The hot food was delivered hot and in a timely fashion. The menu is well thought out and priced well. Th alcohol is expensive (canned beer and weak drinks). Our tab was approximately $160! The disappointment. Although the music was good it was so loud it made conversation impossible. Asked the server if she could request the volume to be lowered a bit and was told emphatically NO -- that we could ask the guy to lower the sound if we wanted but she couldn't. As mentioned, six of us went in together for lunch, cocktails and to catch up. Probably will go back again and sit on the deck but not with a group. read more

They do not have draft beer, so you get it in a can. Not a fan of this, but he handed us a coozie to help keep it cooler in the heat. It was a hot one yesterday. They had live bands playing which was really nice. Overall the atmosphere is conducive to coming in off the beach for a cold one. We had the hummus and a shrimp wrap for snack. Both were really good. This was my first time and I brought six of my friends! Applause to the owners/management staff. Your success and large clientele is delightful to see in these times. I have been in the hospitality industry in one way, shape or form throughout my life. Hence, the reason I absolutely had to post a comment! We walked in and I spotted the perfect table right in front of us. It was like it was saved for us. I went right over to it and grabbed for my friends. I was immediately pounced upon by the hostess. There were two of them, not the little one. She said this table is only for people who are going to EAT! As luck would have it, we were all starving. So yes, we were there to eat! Then, I asked her if there were any extra chairs! She replied in a very nasty tone, NO WE DO NOT HAVE ANY OTHER CHAIRS! We were with a girl that lives on the beach and told me that she is always like this. Here is my problem, you are in the service industry. Your employer has put you up in front of everyone that comes through the front door!! They put their trust that YOU will do your job. Why are you in the service industry if you are just going to be nasty to everyone that comes in! This is called backing in the door!! You do not really want to be there, but you need the paycheck. Please do something about this! I understand you are in no way hurting for business, but she is hurting your business! Everything else was fine! Waiter was ok, he was stressed and busy and lacking but definitely does not merit any negative review. He did the best I feel was capable of. Music was great. Food was good as well. They also have an upstairs rooftop bar that over looks the channel and across the way is a dog beach with tons of happy K-9's running around the beach. Service: 5 The services were quick to great us and you can seat anywhere available. Once we sat down they immediately came up and gave us menus and took our drink orders. When they came back they asked to take our food order. Food: 3 While I did not eat there I wanted too, the menu is good size and priced okay. The food I saw coming out was fresh hot and good portions. Everything I saw looked amazing and asked a few of the patrons if it was good and they all said yes. Price: 4 The prices were reasonable cocktails about 4-5 dollars and the food was about 10-20 depending on what you ordered. Snacks verses a full entry. We arrived with a small group and we were seated right away. The music outside was very loud. The televisions inside were tuned to several different football games which was nice for a Sunday afternoon. We had the fish tacos blackened which were pretty good. We would order them again if we ever come back. The coleslaw on the side is made in house the waitress said and it was a little too vinegary and not very tasty. Another member of our party had the BLT and was very disappointed, after telling us he had eaten there before and everything was good.. he than adds.. except for the BLT. The waitress continued to be unavailable when we needed refills or even basic items such as silverware. Upon asking for silverware we received plastic as they said they ran out. Our ordering process was not good either and when checks came they were brought by someone other than our waitress and just dropped on the table. Lots of complaints by everyone in our group. I've only been to their new location, and I've been a few times now and I absolutely love it. It's my go-to when I'm in the St. Pete Beach area! The live music is great, and there's plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy. If you're looking to experience the outdoor dining and music, but want things a little quieter, just head upstairs for gorgeous waterway views. Their food is delicious, and I haven't had a bad meal yet! I've had burgers, fish tacos, bowls...it's all fresh and very yummy. They are accommodating to food sensitivities where they can, and the staff never have made me feel awkward or guilty for asking questions (that they may need to go ask the chef about). Parking can be challenging at times, so carpool when you can! read more

I had suck a great time here to see No Filter on 12/29/23. We had to hunt around to get a food seat as it was already packed an hour before the band started. Once we found our seat we were able to let loose and relax. I had (one too many) a Cadillac Margarita. Very reasonable priced drink ($7 or $8) not sure and they were STRONG, just the way I like them. I also had the chicken lettuce wraps which were fantastic. Very filling and believe it or not I remembered to bring them home! The band was amazing, I liked the layout of the place, plenty of seating. The bathroom system could use some improvement (ie: maybe a couple of more and all of them working). I am a vegetarian and haven't had the chance to get a Buffalo chicken like wrap anywhere unless I made it at home myself. When I saw this place had Buffalo chicken wraps that could substitute for Buffalo cauliflower I was so excited to try it! And it definitely lived up to my expectations, it was delicious and so filling. It came with a side of fries as well. My friend got chips and salsa and queso and i had some queso and it was really good. I dipped my fries in the queso and wow it was so good. I usually don't like to comment on the service but after I ordered I quickly said "I just wanna make sure there won't be chicken and it'll just be cauliflower" because I get nervous when trying something new and the waiter looked at me like I was dumb and just nodded his head yes very slowly with an annoyed look on his face. There's been many times I've asked to substitute for a veggie option and both chicken and the veggie option were put in so I just wanted to double check and I thought I asked in a super upbeat friendly way but I didn't get that in return. I hate commenting on service unless I thought it was exceptional but it really did make me feel bad and made me scared to ask for anything else, I even had my friend ask for the ranch on the side. This place had sooo many good vegetarian options and if I was in the area again I would probably order from here again but maybe takeout. I gave it 4 stars because the food was so good and the vegan/vegetarian options were so plentiful and I'm sure it was just a one-off bad moment but unfortunately I'm a very anxious person so it was hard for my mind not to race. read more

We went to a Toasted Monkey because it was one of the places with CONVENIENT parking, which is apparently rare to come by we ended up, loving it. We went back again that week. We sat on the patio both nights. They have TV showing sports games and we were able to watch the NHL playoffs. THE BARTENDERS WERE ALWAYS NICE AND FAST. The photos are from our first visit.
