Very popular spot in Eagle River with the nicest servers! There are only 4 tables and some bar seating in a bit of a tiny space, but they knew how to make it work! We had a table of 8 so we had to separate into two different tables and we were the last people there as they were about to close, but the service was fantastic and the food was good too! I just got a breakfast biscuit and some fruits but they have a lot more unique dishes as well. They have been around for a long time and have kept many things the same such as the utensils. They also have us free cookies that they had left over at the end of the day which was a kind and special treat!

Listen- I live for breakfast. It is my favorite meal of the day. Annually, I sojourned to the Northwoods for 2 decades as a summer camp counselor and camper. Now my children are finding a live of the north woods. While in Eagle River staying at a great house on one wonderful lake chain. My husband and I decided to sneak away from the group and hit the Toad in the Hole. It was unreal. These amazing humans know how to cook, make you feel welcome and fill your belly with amazing breakfast. Super small it seats maybe 20. So you will have to wait. Be patient enjoy the morning go down the road and grab a coffee because it is worth the wait. Everything was amazing and all the customers around us agreed. So just pick something off the menu and be brave. Enjoy this awesome place!

I was not expecting this level of deliciousness from Eagle River, not going to lie. I cannot remember a better breakfast in my life - 100% honesty. Highly recommend. It's very small though, so good luck getting a spot without waiting for 90 minutes on the weekend, unless you go very early. The Irishman dish was so good. I wanted to go back over the weekend, but the wait was 2+ hours, so no go.

This is without a doubt the most stupendous breakfast experience of my life. There is often a wait to get in because of the small size of the establishment. But so worth it. The romance of breakfast is in full display here. We sat on the stools and we're about a foot and a half from the cooking area. Just watching them make breakfast is worth the price of admission (not that there is a price for admission). It's like some kind of food heaven as all the conversations around you are about people expressing jealousy that they didn't order what you ordered or just how good this food was and if they weren't full they would want to try something else. I had the best sausage and egg sandwich I have ever had in my life and it didn't last long enough it was just so good. When it comes to breakfast this place is almost a destination. If you haven't turned out to be a breakfast station it would be this place. Everyone leaves talking about what a paradise it is.

My girlfriend and I heard about this small restaurant in Eagle River, WI and we figured we would give it a try. It's tiny with only a few tables and a counter so we knew we'd have to wait. The wait was 1.5hrs (they texted us when we were up so we walked around the town and had coffee nearby) and let me tell you that the wait was absolutely worth it. We loved this place. The food was PHENOMENAL, the ambiance was outstanding and the staff was very nice. The food tasted fresh, everything was full of flavor and we were just very happy. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Finally had the opportunity to check out Toad in the Hole. This incredibly cute and very tiny diner only has 20 seats. We were able to get in the first seating by showing up and waiting outside at 7:30. I highly recommend getting here early, especially during peak tourist season or it'll be 45min to an hour if you miss it. Inside is small but it is decorated so beautifully. It's clean, modern, and just overall a very aesthetic little place, you can tell the owners poured their heart and soul in here. I love a women owned business, especially an alt women business. The food was absolutely incredible, this is a place you'd find in a major city like Chicago. The offerings are unique but they still offer basic eggs/bacon/sausage if you're not feeling adventurous. The coffee is also phenomenal. A nice little touch is that all food and hot coffee are served in vintage/thrifted plates and mugs as well as the silverware. I genuinely cannot say enough good things about Toad in the Hole. It's become my favorite breakfast place in Vilas County.

This neat, small venue has a great look and feel on the inside. I always love places where you can watch the chef cook. We loved the food and each restaurant of our three selections. In addition, they had great coffee. Very balanced menu with a lot of choice.

The most wonderful family owns and runs Toad in the Hole. The menu is so unique and creative. Every meal I've ever eaten here is packed with flavor and presented beautifully. This is a true gem in the Northwoods and you won't be disappointed

This place is AMAZING. The food is out of the world. Best breakfast I've had (from Milwaukee, WI). We went two times. I got the rad hatter and frittata with roasted tomatoes and both were incredible. The ladies there are absolutely delightful. So friendly and outgoing! The diner is so cute and has the old school feel but very well updated! Literally the only bad thing I can say is we don't have one by us! We will DEFINITELY be back next year on our annual family vacation!!! YOU HAVE TO TRY IT!

Easily one of the best restaurants in the area! We had to wait an hour for our table, but the food was worth it. Everything tasted fresh and super flavorful. And the place is women owned and operated!

Wow!! Fantastic!! Had the "lil donkey" and it was incredible. French toast was great. Service was great, friendly and attentive. Put your name on the waitlist and walk around the shops. It's well worth it!!

WOW!! What an amazing little diner. My granddaughter (aged 11) and I visited on Saturday, Feb. 25 for brunch. The booths were full--there are only 3, but the counter had 4 stools open. We eagerly took two spots. I ordered the ricatta toast: wheat berry bread with tomato jam, lemon ricatta cheese, arugula & a balsamic reduction: DELICIOUS!! It was 2 slices of toast--I only ate 1. Price was $12-very reasonable. My granddaughter ordered Brioche French Toast with a buttery/honey syrup (they should bottle it!) She gobbled up the 4 slices with no trouble ($5-another reasonably priced selection) Coffee was very good! Besides the great food, the atmosphere is delightful. The grill/fryer etc is right behind the counter so you can watch your food being prepared (if you are counter-seated) The woman next to me ordered corned beef hash with a couple eggs--that was beautiful!! We will be back!

    Great breakfast!

Excellent food and service. They also did a great job with the designs and setup inside.

Reservations were at 6 and we were seated right away. Our waitress was promptly at our table and was excellent throughout. I wish I remembered her name. I ordered the Scallops Pernod which is an anise liqueur. It is made with coriander, star anise and mint so it does have an unusual taste but I've had it before but our waitress made sure I was aware of the flavor as she didn't want me to order something I wouldn't have liked. It was FANTASTIC! My mouth is watering think about it. There were plenty of good sized scallops with a Pernod and mushroom cream sauce over linguine. To die for! My friend had the walleye piccata and she said it was also fantastic. The restaurant itself is not terribly big so you could actually talk without yelling. It was decorated in the typical Northwoods style and was very comfortable. I would recommend Chef Rene's 100% although it is a little on the pricier side it is well worth it. Go there you won't be disappointed!

Some of the best steaks I've had were right here versus others within a 60 mile radius. This trip I had the lamb chops which were excellent. Also a double baked and we had escargot. I wish the location was was not connected to a hotel and was stand alone but I find this establishment to be in the top 3 in the North Woods
