But don't let that fool you because you'll also see seasoned boxers training for fights and sparring. They offer a wide range of class times and open gym which is super convenient. In one session, Coach KG corrected my stance, hook, and one-two. This is a great boxing gym that is family owned with experienced coaches. It is new and clean, which is great if you are like me and used to living in a damp basement. Coach KG has already shown me how to wrap my hands two different ways and didn't even comment on the Cheeto stains on my fingers. Amazing. This is a great place to be yourself, learn your fighting style, and gain discipline and accountability. You can tell it was designed to be a special place, and on the surface, it truly is adorable. That said, my experience left me feeling uneasy, mostly due to cleanliness and supervision concerns. I witnessed multiple children putting toys in their mouths (which is totally normal for kids), but what was concerning was that those same toys were often placed right back into shared play areas. While I later learned there is a designated bin for toys that have been in kids' mouths, this wasn't communicated upfront, and I didn't see it being consistently used or enforced. There also seemed to be inconsistency when it came to staff involvement. Across my two visits, I did see some staff members actively cleaning up and returning toys to their proper places, which I appreciated. However, I also observed others simply picking up toys and dropping them into corners of the rooms without any real organization or sanitizing. I completely understand that keeping up with kids is a challenge--I'm a parent too--but that's where consistent staff engagement becomes really important. Another issue was the level of parental supervision. Many parents were on their phones while their kids played freely. Again, that's ultimately a parenting responsibility, but in a shared environment like this, it contributes to the overall hygiene and safety concerns. I also want to mention that I found the staff presentation a bit unprofessional, which added to the overall impression that things weren't being closely managed. To be fair, you do sign a waiver regarding illness, and I understand that no play space can be completely germ-free. However, I did end up contracting chickenpox exactly 10 days after visiting, which makes me seriously question the effectiveness of their cleaning and sanitizing practices. Overall, this place is incredibly cute and full of potential. With more consistent staff involvement, clearer communication, better sanitization systems, and encouragement for parents to stay engaged, it could be an amazing environment. Right now, though, it falls short of what it could and should be.

I've studied martial arts in one form or another since the 80s. I've also trained along with my kids in four different Jiu-Jitsu schools in the valley, When searching for a school to train in there are two things that I consider to be very important to look for. 1. The competency of instruction. 2. The culture of the school. INSTRUCTOR COMPETENCY. TNT's owner and lead instructor is Scott Tannenbaum, a 5th degree blackbelt under Jiu-Jitsu legend Rigan Machado. If you've been in the world of Jiu-Jitsu for more than 10 minutes you know that a Rigan Machado blackbelt is as legitimate as it gets. Coach Scott is also a Thailand trained Muay Thai fighter and holds several blackbelts in other styles including Judo. Learning he was a Rigan Machado blackbelt was enough for me to sign. What I didn't expect to find was that Coach Scott is what I consider a martial arts innovator. You don't run into folks like this very often. In fact I've never run into one in Arizona. Helio Gracie was an innovator. Cus D'Amato and Bruce Lee, were innovators. John Danaher is an innovator. It's easier said than done, but an innovator is someone who can take a technique, or a series of techniques and improve them in their effectiveness and efficiency. Coach Scott has done this with several techniques. I don't say this for any reason other than it's the truth, but the TNT version of the Americana is genus. The Americana is one of the first techniques you learn in Jiu-Jitsu It's a high success technique that is universally practiced in Jiu-Jitsu schools across the world. To modify something that is so commonly used and already highly effective is a feat that requires the highest level of competency. Plainly, Scott Tannenbaum is no ordinary black belt and it shows in his students-as I quickly learned. . I'm no Rickson Gracie. But I can usually tap out most blue belts I encounter and can usually hold my own against purple belts my size. That's nothing to brag about. However, when I got on the mat at TNT, I should not have been as ineffective as I was. It was like I'd never had a lesson. I'm not knocking any of my former instruction, but I hadn't tapped out that much in years. The fellas at TNT were simply better than me. All of them, were better than me. My son who had just finished his first year of high school wrestling with 7 years of jiujitsu under his belt ran into the same thing. He was getting regularly tapped out by smaller and younger kids. It was a little demoralizing for him but now he's getting up to speed with TNT's expert training. This place is truly a cut above the rest. In fact I've seen head instructors from other long established schools training here. The competency of TNT instructors is among the best I've ever seen. They are that good. THE CULTURE OF THE SCHOOL is also very important. It's the difference between enjoying the learning process or just pushing through and putting up with nonsense because you want to learn the art. Trust me, the former is much better than the latter. It starts at the top. Coach Scott is for lack of a better description a "Zen dude." His philosophy is one of respect, kindness, and hard work. He cares about his students. At TNT you will run into nothing but gentle giants. Absent are the knuckle heads or mat bullies that are common in many JiuJitsu/MMA schools. Many will tell you they don't have this problem but in truth almost all of them do. A friend of mine was once neck cranked by an instructor who didn't like the question he was asked. My friend was out for a month. He later quit. Guys like that don't last at TNT and Coach Scott is the first one to show them to the door. I have no reservations in telling you If you are looking for a safe place to train with a friendly environment, TNT is where you want to go. Let's talk about money. TNT doesn't nickel and dime you. They don't insist you buy their equipment. They don't even train in the traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Gi, which for many reasons is a much more realistic way to train for a self defense encounter or an MMA fight. I've personally spent thousands on Jiu-Jitsu Gi's over the years with little to show for it. TNT offers the highest quality of instruction for a very reasonable price. The only thing you are required to wear during class are whatever gym shorts you already have and a 15$ TNT t-shirt. Investigating TNT is in my opinion absolutely worth your time. Before you sign somewhere else, come talk to Coach Scott and his instructors. Talk with the parents and other students. Get your questions answered. I'll be surprised if you don't like what you see. I don't get a thing for writing this. But if this review can help you find the school that works best for you and your family I'm happy to do it. The truth is my only regret about TNT is that I didn't find it earlier. In my opinion it's the best kept secret in Arizona. I hope this helps. Steve read more

I intend no disrespect towards any of my previous schools; I learned a lot from them all. However, Scott Tannenbaum , your school is at the top. Your self-defense/MMA approach to Jiu Jitsu is what I was previously looking for but could not find: -12 years ago I originally took up Jiu Jitsu because I wanted to fight in some amateur MMA boughts. I didn't know where to begin, but I remembered how well Royce Gracie did, so I figured that's where I would begin. Well some time after I got my blue belt, I overheard an instructor say, "Sport Jiu Jitsu is the complete opposite of anything that you would want to do in an MMA fight." I thought to myself "Why on earth did I waste a year and a half on my life on this??" They didn't offer Self Defense classes either. They did have boxing, wrestling and Muay Thai classes.They did have a great, dedicated MMA class, but I had to get special permission. That was the only class where students could learn about defending strikes on the ground, and it wasn't available to everyone. -A bit later I went to a very well known school in NorCal which also had an MMA school and many active UFC and MMA fighters. Well I joined and started taking Gi Jiu Jitsu classes. After class one night I asked a staff member, "What class should I go to if I wanted to learn how to defend a punch.?" She looked at me genuinely perplexed and said, "You want to learn how to fight?" I said, "uhh...uh...well yah,,I guess...I want to be able to defend against a punch." She said, "Well you're going to need to go to our MMA school for that. So this was a long winded way of saying that your approach Bjj is by far the best. read more

TNT is the best no-gi gym in the valley. Scott, the owner, has assembled the best group of students and has created an environment that is positive, cooperative, supportive, and respectful. Upper belt students go out of their way to mentor new white belt students. Egos are always left at the door. I routinely go to other gym's open matts around town and always see the difference in other gyms techniques versus TNT techniques, which are far more polished and effective. I also notice our blue belt students are usually as good as other gym's purple and brown belt students. This is because TNT students have to demonstrate proficiency in roughly 70 techniques before moving on to the next belt, whereas other gyms will simply award belts for showing up to practice for a specific period of time. I consider my teammates my friends and have the greatest respect for each of them. Culture always comes from the top down and Scott created something special at TNT. I'm on my 18th year with TNT and enjoy seeing so many second-generation students who literally grew up in the gym and have grown into fine adults not to mention very skilled grapplers. TNT Mixed Martial Arts Training Center is an AWESOME place. I was your typical Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fan who just watched MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) from home before joining. The instructors and practitioners (Scott Tannenbaum) are very knowledgeable with experience and proficient in the curriculum of the classes offered. In addition they have senior students who are available before and after each class to teach you as well. Team TNT recently attended the NAGA (North American Grappling Association) tournament in Las Vegas and had 18 competitors compete and come away with 21 medals (6 Gold, 11 Silver and 4 Bronze). I have been training at TNT for almost 15 years now, and there is really nothing like it. In this time I have visited many other gyms but none can really compete with TNT. This is one of the last gyms that really cares about Jiu-Jitsu and how you can use it not only to compete but also to defend yourself in a real situation. Most gyms now seem to just want your money and teach nonsense because you don't know any better. After just one class you can see the amount of love and passion Coach Scott has for Jiu-Jitsu and teaching it to people from all walks of life. Anyone from any background is welcome, and as long as you are willing to put in the work you will see the results. TNT MMA training center is an awesome place to train. I've been training here for about a year and the guys really put their heart and soul into what they're teaching. Coach/owner Scott is very experienced and has a fantastic jujutsu class. He truly believes that jujutsu is the best self-defense method. His concepts are very effective. Coach Dan teaches us Muay Thai. He is extremely passionate about what he does and always comes up with new lessons for us. TNT MMA Training Center is amazing. Its ran by, hands down the best No-Gi BJJ coach in Arizona, Scott Tannenbaum, 3rd Degree Black Belt under Rigan Machado. The coaches are very experienced and that includes, MMA Coach, UFC Veteran Edwin Dewees. All the people there are very nice and the fighters are great people and aren't all full of themselves like the fighters at the other gyms I've tried out. The best thing about it is that you don't have to be a fighter to train here, they have amazing yoga and cardio classes as well. They have kids bjj and kids mma. I am able to take my son to bjj, were he can learn self defense, while I'm doing yoga or cardio in the other room. I love it. read more

I absolutely love this gym. The Facility is clean and spacious, there's a wide variety of class types and times, and of course the coach Scott Tannenbaum is world class. You don't get to be a 6th degree Black Belt under a world-renowned name like Rigan Machado by resting on your laurels. Whether you are a professional athlete or just starting out TNT MMA has the class for you. Awesome cardio and yoga classes. The muay thai class has the perfect mix of instruction and live sparring. Scott Tannenbaum is one of the best Jiu Jitsu practitioner's in the country and his attention to detail is amazing. TNT is the best place for mixed martial arts training in the area. They have gi and no-gi classes for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, as well as Muay Thai classes and MMA classes. They also offer yoga and cardio/conditioning classes so it has a little something for everyone. All of the coaches are top-notch and the atmosphere is as welcoming as it gets. Great school! Coach Scott and his instructors are very knowledgeable and helpful. My 15 year old son has attended here for several months now and loves it. I started at TNT about 5 months ago. When I started I knew nothing about BJJ. There staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. Eventually I joined so he would not quit (and it was so much more fun than sitting and watching!). I never thought I would enjoy it as much as I have, or be as motivated to do the best my body will allow, but I do, and I hope to continue for as long as my body lets me. My son started the program when he was 6 in the Tigers program (ages 5-7). He's now a Conditional Black Belt, working on confirming his first Poom Black Belt in 2021. This place is inclusive to everyone. It's a good dojo to brush up on your old techniques and learn some new skills. I also really like how Geoff posts videos of the different techniques and I can practice on the road. I will definitely keep coming back to TSF.

I had some concerns mand explained I might not be able physically do the class. Im not 20 years old anymore and am short one wash board stomach lol. I thought I might be to old ( in my mind Im 30 :), but my body is 54. Keith said to come in and give it a shot its free to try it. He also said to come and do what you can there is no failure to try. My wife and I took an introductory class on a Friday evening. Everyone was very nice from the minute we arrived, with no pressure and no "Im better than you attitude" . Everyone of all ages was smiling, friendly and encouraging. The facility is second to none with all the cool pads and mats and work out punching bags. It's a large space with good lighting and is well taken care of, bathrooms were clean as well. It is obvious from the moment you enter the building that they take pride in thier space as much as thier philosophy and practices. We got right in to to our 50 minute class starting with the owner himself, Keith (a black belt), showing us a basic fight stance. Then a female instuctor named Amy took over with a basic warmup consisting of jumping jacks, jogging around the padded mat and stretches etc. She then taught us to punch correctly and we learned how to break out of a choke hold. I was amazed at what you can learn in 1 hour with a quality well spoken instructors that actually cares if you "get it" or not. My wife also liked the class. After the class ended we had a post meeting with Keith where he gave us the run down on options for memberships and pricing. It all seemed fair for what you get and access to so much skilled training. I've owned my own small business for 27 years so I can appreciate fair, but still needing to make a profit pricing to keep a good business going strong. If its to cheap the business won't last and if its to expensive no one will pay the high price. After a couple days I called Keith and signed up on a limited basis at first because I honestly didn't know if this was something I could commit to with my work schedule and responsibilities for running my own business. My wife liked the class and hoped to do more, but has some serious neck and ankle issues from past injuries and felt after thinking about it more that she would be better off to do something more geared toward her physical restrictions. However she whole heartedly encouraged me to continue to go if I liked it and so I did! I started with one class a week at first and then over the course of a few months realized what a physical and mental benefit Krav Maga was adding to to my life. I made time in my life for the training and now 5 months in I'm going 3 to 4 times a week and have added some running and home workouts as well. I have learned a lot and excited to learn more, there is years and years worth to material to learn so it is always a challenge every class. I also bought a Krav Maga book recommended by one of the instructors and have used it to review after class what we learned and practice on my own. I found that doing some of the techniques in my pool is great practice and the water gives resistance to the moves and forces you to go slow and be more precise...and its relaxing. The long and short of it is East Valley Krav Maga Self Defense and Fitness in Tempe is worth every penny and I would say if you are looking for something to get fit other than going to a sweaty gym with everyone parading around like peacocks this might be just the fit you are looking for. It's never to late or to early to make positive life changes and take care of the most important thing in your life ...YOU! Once you help yourself you can then help others in many ways from a place of both mental and physical strength!
