Do not take your vehicle to the establishment.They put used parts in your vehicle and charge you regular price. I took my vehicle here for a new power steering pump. They had it for 4 days, and not once did I drive off the vehicle with my car fixed, they lied and said they put a new powers during pump in it, I took it to a dealership and they said it needed a new power staring pump the lady gave me back my $600 in labor but refused to give me back the price for the used part , which she charged me full price just to find out when I went to the dealership that it was a bad pump , leaking , my power steering reservoir was even bone dry. Do not trust this establishment. They ripped me off $400 and refused to give it back. read more

Took car in November 18th for a coolant leak, about a week before I was supposed to head to Pa for my friend's wedding. Flight non refundable. Took car in and was told I needed to have my radiator replaced $1,000, I let them know that I had a timeline that the coolant leak wasn't terrible so if it needed to be done soon I could do it after. Missed flight, got car back a week later, still leaking. Let them know it was still leaking, they said they'd make it good so I brought the car back. Parts don't come in for a week. They replace my return lines (something directly related to the leak). Return car, still leaking. I am extremely upset at this point. I let them know I will be driving to Pa for the Christmas holiday and I'd like to have the car back, not leaking, well before so I can make sure there are no other issues. This time I have to pay for the part (complete lower coolant hose, also directly related to original problem). Bring the car in and they return it to me the day that it snowed so I couldn't check reliably if it was leaking. The next day I open the hood, and the coolant is low. I brought the car in with a coolant leak that was minor and now I have to check my coolant every day. I will not be back. Including the rental car I now have to rent, the plane ticket from the wedding, the Lyft rides to and from and service itself I have dumped $2,000 into this saga without an end in sight. Well, it turns out that they actually did rip me off. I had been pleasantly surprised by the price given the fact that they had been doing brake work... my brakes failed about four months later while I was on a major road. They didn't lie and say that they had done more work than they actually had, at least. The fact that they told me that there was no more work to be done and that my brakes were perfectly safe is frustrating, though. read more

They use parts that just laying around the shop charged $2000 and didn't fix the problem then when it was stated that check engine code stated the ignition coil the tech said he had to do his own diagnostic after bringing it back to him 2 times he says he can replace the ignition coil for $600 need less to say they took advantage of a young girl my niece we took the car to the dealership to get it fixed right cause his so called warranty on his work didn't go the screw up job he did BIG RIP OFF DON'T DEAL WITH THE ALEX read more

Not bad at all. I have been to them twice. Once for a perceived muffler problem. Turns out it was some gasket and they just rigged it up to stop the noise and charged 50$. That fix has held for the past 7 months. They could have just said "yep, it's the muffler" and charged 130$ The other time it was for a throttle position sensor and it was much less than the dealer quote. They also allowed me to same day reschedule quickly to meet a change. They're definitely light on the social skills... but who really gives a damn? I'm a fan so far EDIT 09/20/2010 My truck was making a weird noise for a couple of days, on the third day it stopped making the noise but I took it anyways to see what might be up. They drove it around and looked at some things but could not find anything. The charge? 0$.... very cool read more

I've been impressed with this shop since the first time I came here. They're honest, the prices are fair and they do quality work. They give you time to make an informed decision. If something on your car can wait to be fixed, they tell you. So if they tell you not to wait on something, you know they mean it and aren't just shaking you down. I'm used to shops taking advantage of the fact that I'm stereotypical in that I'm a woman who doesn't know much about cars - there is none of that attitude here. Bought a new-to-me used car with high mileage, and thought I heard some rattling in the front end while going over bumps. I was concerned about my tie-rods or strut-arms, or what-have-you, so I took it to them for an inspection. Rather than the usual "yeah, it's gonna be a $500 job", they said "The car is in great shape, and we can't find anything wrong with your suspension." Awesome. Decided to check them out because of all the good reviews. My initial visit was for an estimate for my muffler as far as the price is concerned I'm satisfied. I scheduled an appointment for the following day. When I arrived I was greeted by a completely different person so had no clue of who I was and no record of my having an appointment. He didn't even bother asking me who I spoke with, just said rudely that whoever told me that was wrong and all his bays were full and told me to reschedule I explained to him that I specifically left work early to make this appointment. Very convenient service! I dropped my baby off in the evening and they had her ready for pick up the next day at about 1pm. Their fall special is excellent! brakes inspection cooling system inspection (fluid systems etc) starting and charging system inspection entire safety inspection lube-filter and oil -- $40 Joe, the only person I interacted with was polite and courteous. I will be keeping an eye on their specials in the future and am a likely repeat costumer. If I had constructive criticism, it would be that the processes seemed highly impersonal. Son drives to Champaign a lot to see his girlfriend. 90 minutes from home here at Washington. The car suddenly wouldn't shift into fifth or reverse anymore. Google showed TMS as closest, but after having their service..I'd have driven another 90 minutes to get there!!! The did honest work for someone out-of-town where it could have been SO easy to charge much, much more. Ridiculously reasonable, amazingly fast! They would have gotten me in SAME DAY if my son had gotten there just a little sooner. As it was, without any call or appointment, and us just literally dropping it in their lot the night before...it was fixed by 1pm the next day!! If I have any scheduled maintenance for this car in the future, I'm going to time it for when he goes back to Champaign and have TMS do the work. read more

These guys are awesome! My car was making a loud noise, and I was convinced it was muffler-related. They checked and said the muffler was fine. When they couldn't find anything wrong, structurally, they had me drive them around the block. They determined it was tire-related. They wouldn't even charge me for a consultation fee! I hit the curb and steering went off center. I went there to did an inspection. Within 10 mins, I was told all components are good and I just need an wheel alignment at other place(they don't do wheel alignment). The inspection is FREE!!! Very fast and honest people. read more

I was passing through town on my way to Nashville and my car was making an awful crunching, metallic sound so i googled car repair shops. I liked their reviews so i gave them a try. They were very kind, quick and honest. I was so impressed that I wanted to let the world know about them. They didn't charge me for test driving my car and they didn't find anything wrong except that the tires needed balanced .. i was safe to drive home. I am extremely satisfied with the service at TMS auto. My car shut off while driving twice in the day prior and I commute to work. I explained this to TMS auto that I needed my car fixed ASAP and they fit me in and got my car all fixed within 2 hours. Steve the technician is nice and the price for my fix was completely fair. I was given a quote for parts and labor which I thought was too high. I then got quotes for the same job from two other auto repair shops and the quotes were about half of what TMS quoted me. Further, from the quote given by TMS, they wanted to turn down one brake rotor but replace the brake rotor on the other side while the cost difference for turning down versus replacing was negligible. Why would they not provide new rotors on both sides if the cost difference is so minimal? This made me highly suspicious about their honesty and integrity and I did not get the feeling that I could trust them. Therefore I did not get the work done here. I cannot comment on the actual work because the work was not done here. They did state that all their work is warranted for one year for parts and labor, but you see, brake parts should usually last a long time assuming your driving is not harsh, parts are good and labor is done correctly. One year warranty on parts and labor is not satisfactory because you don't want to be spending hundreds of dollars on parts and labor each year. read more

I am not sure how there are so many 5 star reviews for this place. I recently moved to central Illinois from the Chicago area and my check engine light came on. I booked an appointment at TMS and they got me in the next day. I decided to wait in the waiting area for them to determine if the problem was a quick fix or if I should get a ride. About 2 hours into my wait I still had not heard anything so I asked what the status was, I was told they were working on a quote and would let me know shortly. About 20-30 minutes later I was told it was a coil and all of the spark plugs that needed replaced, he also wanted to replace the air filter, and a stabilization rod. The total was going to be nearly $700. I asked him how essential the stabilization rod was, and he told me it wasn't very pressing so I declined that service and the air filter given that it's the oldest trick in the book to up-sell unnecessary charges. Two hours later and almost $400 later I finally leave only to have my check engine light come back on the next day. I take it back to them and they said it may be the fuel injector (which had been replaced only about 6 months prior at a different and trusted mechanic from Chicago). I left, not trusting them at this point, and had to drive all the way back to Chicago to get the issue resolved at my trusted mechanic's shop. My old mechanic fixed the problem for $100 and we were finally good to go. I asked my mechanic if he thought $400 was fair for what they did at TMS and he said they likely used a dealer part and using a generic part would have been fine and could have saved a significant chunk of that cost. Bottom line, TMS will try to upcharge you on unnecessary fixes such as air filters and may not even fix your problem. I also waited for 4 hours when I could have gotten a ride, had they simply communicated how long it would take. I was the first appointment, it should not have taken 2 hours to determine what was needed. I would recommend trying a different mechanic in Champaign. read more
