This gym is phenomenal. The lighting is conducive to where you have to take yourself mentally to work out, they have all the equipment one needs to work with, the staff is super friendly, the restroom and locker room area is first class and I haven't even gotten to use the cold plunge, pool, etc. However, I am certain that those places within the gym are phenomenal also! Iike this gym well enough but it's overpriced for what it is. The most infuriating thing are the short weekend hours. Like the weekend is when I have time to relax and visit the spa but it closes at 4 pm and the gym closes at 5. Equinox nearby closes much later. read more

Everything @ TMPL on E. 53rd Street is outstanding. Front desk staff welcoming when you check in, Men's locker room extremely clean and desinfected after each use, steam and sauna miraculously clean. This location is excellent, the staff (front desk, associates and lockers) very professional ppl.. Especially Williams, who always is happy to help with any question. And Mr. Juan, who keeps the lockers room always on point and spotless. The fitness/group clases are super good is the schedule works for you. The "trainers" is the opposite case, typical grymbro very loud, always in groups like the own the gym. Also some of them never wipe down the machines even when it is their policy. I think paying $150+ for the amenities is too much: always the water fountain doesn't work properly. The "spa" was out of order for more that 3 months. They take too much time to take actions and address the issues. I'm member since August 2022. read more

Honestly a really nice location. Clean, friendly staff, and has a good variety of machines. Only downside is this location can get pretty crowded during the weekdays during peak hours. The spa is a great option too as it's great to use the ice bath or sauna after a tough workout. read more

This place is amazing. Tons of machines, lots of amenities, nice employees, spacious, beautiful locker rooms, good music, etc. I can't wait until classes start up and the spa is open. I did a personal training session here and really enjoyed it. As someone who is looking to be more active in a judgment free zone, I'm happy to have found a gorgeous, quiet gym with lots of amenities near my apartment. I couldn't get photos of the entire floor/workout area this time but it's extremely spacious and beautiful. Have no fear! Those eye catching pools, wim hof grade cold plunge tubs, and relaxing saunas that are constantly advertised in all their marketing material have been closed for the past two months. But wait dont worry! The desk staff is completely forthcoming and extremely helpful in calming any of your concerns of the closures - it has been "oh yeah we are working on opening the spa next week I hear"........the same answer for the past 3 weeks. Im sure next week is the one this time around, I sure feel it! But before you go....just one more thought. One would think "well since the promised services have been delivered below expections I'm sure the organization would offer discounted services for such ureasonable timelines and lack of communication"....well you thought WRONG!!!! They will still continue to charge you the same rate before the spa closures. Take your business elsewhere, the gym is crowded enough already with gorilla bros filming themselves and girls convinced they are the next instagram overnight success story. TMPL Lexington gets 1 star until they actually provide the experience they advertise. I've been a member of TMPL the past two years and I think that's fair enough time to assess each facility properly. Lexington was great at first and the nicest location. However the classes are just alright (no LesMills License at this location) and the gym is plagued by poor facilities management. There was no air conditioning for weeks this summer.It was crazy. Additionally, the spa has been closed for three months due to some sort of management incompetence . The spa is the biggest draw to this location, and no one who works there can say when it opens. This type of thing doesn't happen at Equinox, Crunch, or even NYSC. The price tag for this gym is not cheap, so the level of service provided is not up to par. read more

They're obviously instructed to lie to customers to squeeze every last bit of membership dollars out of people and prevent revenue declines. Started out great. Loved the spa, then the Spa closed for several months without any real explanation and a free 10 minute chair massage at the front of the gym did not make up for it. The spa (steam room/sauna/cold plunge/hot tub) was half of the reason I joined this gym. The gym is clean but usually very crowded. Unfortunately, not many class times especially after 5pm. I decided to cancel my membership, mainly due to their response or lack thereof with the spa closure. BEWARE when you cancel your membership- even if you cancel before the next cycle (1st of the month). They will charge you for a full month after, ($200). This is in the fine print of the contract you sign. Very disappointed and will not return. I did not get my money's worth. Should've gone with equinox. read more

Although I do like this gym, I have to say that the ice plunge bath today was absolutely disgusting edit: from 3 stars to 1 star I could have wrote a lot more than the original, but Jane the manager decided to walk around the gym and search for me today because of my review. I was already receiving phone calls from her 10 minutes after I left this review WHILE I WAS STILL WORKING OUT. The ice plunge bath actually made me ITCHY which I left out in my original review. 3 stars was gracious, but Jane is a total boundary crosser. This is extremely inappropriate, I suspect that she must have searched up my name and found my photo in their system or racially profiling me. Did she also harass other members at the gym while looking for me? Probably. She then asked me to remove my review repeatedly which I said I don't feel comfortable doing. My phone died and when I recharged my phone I saw an incoming call from her before my lock screen even showed up. She continued to spam call my phone. After reading some other reviews for this location, I decided to text her instead to have evidence in case of change in story. She texted me and claimed she was calling to say she was sorry. She isn't sorry, she could care less that I got a rash. She just wants this review removed which I will NOT be doing. You can see other people's reviews on yelp about them harassing members to remove their reviews. She is aggressive at what she wants. You can also see my other reviews that I have only given out 5 stars. I only use reviews to encourage people to go to great establishments but my experience today was so bad that I had to write this. I will tell everyone I know not to sign up for a membership here, please be careful. It is difficult to find a nice gym in the city but why would you pay 200$ to be harassed? If anyone at this establishment higher than Jane would like to reach out to me then feel free. It is unacceptable that the highest person in management here crosses every line and is extremely invasive. You claim to be an inclusive space for all but only until your reputation/money is on the line. While I am partial to downtown locations due to convenience, this new TMPL location is a great gym alternative to the high-end chains like Equinox. It's nice that it is a bit hidden and office workers haven't returned in full force in midtown as yet. The new cardio equipment and clean spaces (class studios and locker room) are quite the drawing point. The amenities are solid and combo locks and locker rooms with shoe compartments (so you don't have to carry your own) are a great touch. The staff is really nice as well. TMPL really helped soften the blow of no longer having the Elite NYSC gym in Grand Central that closed after COVID started. read more

Horrible customer service. I suffered a disabling neck injury and had to chase for weeks to cancel my month to month membership. It took me 12 emails, two calls and lots of $ in wasted dues - there is no medical exception to their 30-day cancellation requirement even though the contract has a clause that seems to state otherwise. I encountered disregard at every turn. It's a real shame because the gym is beautiful. They clearly only care about money. read more

The staff at TMPL Lexington is very friendly and helpful. The gym itself is clean and well equipped but my issue was that it gets absolutely crammed during the times that I would work out (6-7 pm). May not apply to the other locations but I think this one gets so crowded because most of the people who work out there work in the offices nearby and want to do their workouts before heading home. For someone who can workout outside of the rush hours, I would definitely recommend this gym. read more

I could not recommend anything less. Management must have made the 5-star reviews. Their customer service basically scammed me and their over-priced facility feels more like a flashy club than a gym. The gym itself is buried underground with zero sunlight. At some locations, they blare music so loud you're unable to hear yourself think, let alone whatever music you're trying to listen to. There's plenty of gyms in Manhattan with just as nice of equipment that are cheaper and won't cause you to develop a vitamin-D deficiency and tinnitus. The sales team will say anything to get your credit card number, then charge it at whim, and good luck cancelling! A salesperson told me that rates were going up soon (a red flag, I now realize). Although I wouldn't be in the city for another month, he assured me I could lock in at a lower rate without commitment, allowing me to test out the gym before officially signing up. Without ever signing a contract, I've now been charged for two full months, plus the initiation fee, and with potential further charges on the way. I wonder how many others have been taken advantage of like this. Each time I called, management either ignored me or had me explain the situation for the umpteenth time, always concluding with the assurance they'd call me back--which, after month and a half, they never have. EDIT: after weeks of ghosting me or pretending they didn't understand the situation, I finally received a call after they saw this review. They acted like they finally understood why I was contacting them and offered to refund me... IF I took down this review. Not only is this dishonest and likely in violation of Yelp's policy, it also shows why this place has so few reviews. They seem to only care about customers when they're reputation is called out. I started at this gym when they first opened everything was smooth from Eric D. Onboarding process to the equipment and space. Steve is great and has hired not just great trainers but great people who interact with the members. Eric has a small group competitive class that I love. It reminds me of the CrossFit community that class has made the gym a friendlier place. I talk to the other ppl from class everyday either at the gym or on our group chat. SCAM!!! **DO NOT JOIN!!** TMPL fitness. They seem nice, but the entire management is a **SCAM**. JANE NIELSON, the manager of the club guaranteed me 2 months free when i signed up. May, and August. She just asked me to remind her about the free August month in July, and i did so multiple times and she told me she will take care of it. They ofcourse have charged me for August and i reached out to them as soon as i saw the charge and they said they will have it reversed. I followed up every 2 weeks since then and they kept making excuses. It has been 4 months now, and i yet have not received my money back!!!!!! I have it in writing my contract and multiple emails about them guaranteeing my refund, but it has not come through. I am a student, and naturally living in NYC is ridiculously expensive. I first came to this location here right when it opened to check out all the great new things about the machines and building layout. I typically workout at the HK location as it's been closer to home and work for me in the past. After trying out this spot a few times I couldn't take it. I left and haven't visited in almost a year and came back to see if maybe things got better. My friends and i had left feedback with a manager about major misses about the gym that were easy fixes hoping to set this gym up for better experience for their clients. I came back too see if things got any better...and it's exactly as I remembered it. There are several major distinctions about this location that creates a really frustrating experience which is really a shame b/c it has so much potential. What's unfortunate is that the HK locations is smaller, but you can get a great workout in half the time b/c it's more organized and the clients have better gym etiquette. Things that are major misses: - [ ] The free weights are a disaster. Completely in disarray. The wracks that hold all the dumb s are not labeled for users to know where to place them back creating a game of 'Where's Waldo' every time you want to grab a weight. Granted the clients lack common sense as well as they just place weights wherever they please. Also, the order of the weights that is initially set up by the gym is prone for injury as weights starting at 125lbs -140lbs are placed on the top portion of the wracks vs the bottom. All weights 100lbs and above would be best suited to be on the bottom wracks to avoid injury. - [ ] Clients love using benches and moving them wherever they need throughout the gym, but do not return them leaving you yet again to hunt for equipment. You'll find the free weights section half the time missing half the benches b/c of this issue. - [ ] The men's lockers have this random living room section with a giant screen tv when we barely have enough locker and benches for out things. No one is ever sitting there watching tv. It's so awkward if you think about. Do you want to be on a leather couch while guys are changing 1 foot away from you? Also, it's ALWAYS so hot in there. No air flow and you're constantly sweating. - [ ] There is a definite need for additional cable machines. It's popular and you have to run to grab it as soon as it's free. - [ ] Not sure what the front lounge area with couches is for. Waste of space that could be utilized for more issuable gym space. - [ ] It's a hit or miss with the front desk employees personalities. Some are friendly and some seem like they're working here begrudgingly. - [ ] Not enough weight plates. Another thing you have to hunt for. - [ ] Weekends they close at 4pm. Compared to the other locations this closes the earliest, and the spa area closes at 3pm making everyone crowd and rush into the space. - [ ] The clients at this location lack major gym etiquette and are inconsiderate. They grab several pairs of weights and equipment to create their own personal area to workout out when it's busy all while trying to use up to 3 different prices if equipment so they can super set. Half the time they leave the weights where they worked out and walk away not placing them back. - [ ] Squat and bench press wracks: you have to wait a very long time to use them. People stay on them on average of 20-30 mins. read more

Overcharged me on a guest pass during a trial (evidently no reciprocity at TMPL) and the franchise owner was rude while checking me in, kicked us out of the boxing room when I gave my friend some pointers, and then approached me to kick me out of the ebtire facility, embarrassing me in front of other patrons - ok (if overpriced) facility, but I've done the same thing at a hundred other NYC gyms and never had such an embarrassing, poot customer experience before. Can't fault the other locations I guess, but the woman who runs this one is horrible and I may avoid TMPL in general. read more
