This TMPL gym is located in a premium location, very convenient to a lot of attractions and shows, ground level is the reception and testing area, then two levels down are the main workout area, including a swimming pool, overall it's dark with loud music inside. It's on the pricy side as the cost of membership is about $200 per month plus tax, considering the variety of equipments and facilities they have, even though some are under maintenance and not all are available. I like the friendly staff here and how clean the locker room is, probably the largest and cleanest I've seen in this type of gyms. read more

I joined TMPL Hell's Kitchen back in 2023 after considering other clubs in the area. It continues to deliver superb quality, including a new hot tub in the swimming pool area. It's a large space with multiple levels and endless options for machines and free weights, including 7 squat racks. As for group classes, Carlton Jones' "Good Karma Capoeira" workout is the best. Carlton is an excellent Capoeria instructor and makes capoeira, an ancient martial art / dance, accessible to those who don't know much about it. More members need to be exposed to this Capoeria class, because it's an intense full body workout. read more

Finally made the trek to see what the hype was all about. Although I'm from out of town while TMPL is far from where l live, it's worth checking out if you live in or visiting New York City. Two of my work buddies come here on occasion and suggested I try it out. Enrolling online for a day pass was simple. Once I got a confirmation email/text, I then met with JD who is a Membership Consultant. He signed me up for a daily pass which is $35. Anyways, I'm happy I came here. To my surprise, it was super spacious, with state of the art LF Machines, spa-like locker rooms, plenty of complimentary towels, and two levels of training space with a dedicated Leg Area same level as the Cardio, Group Exercise & TRX Room. TMPL also has a swimming pool, Sauna & Steam, Juice Bar and much more, might l add very clean facility. One of the reasons I have this love hate relationship with gyms in general is how dirty it can get. Just knowing the feeling of how clean it is here and having this option is a major plus for me. This is a three level full service fitness club that's located in Hell's Kitchen. The spot lights give it a nightclub vibe with cool neon lights on the walls. This is what I would call next level gym! It's definitely not on the affordable side, and I'm already aware of weekly and monthly rates. But you get what you pay for. I'm a tourist (who flys into town every year around this time) and I wanted to check out this gym since I'm an avid gym goer and saw it on Instagram. I eventually would like to try all locations, Hell's Kitchen TMPL was my first stop (closest to my hotel). It was $50 for a day pass. The front staff was so nice and welcoming. I really liked them. They sell preworkout energy drinks up front too if you may need it and offer towels. The locker room was bigger than I expected and nice and clean. The workout floor itself was smaller than I expected but at least it wasn't crowded. I already know if I were to live in NYC this location wouldn't be big enough for me. Although it wasn't busy I can imagine during peak time you would have to wait around? As there isn't much equipment. Also wasn't a fan of the treadmills facing each other (although I understand they are trying to make use of what space they have). It quickly was awkward when an old man got on the treadmill opposite me and we just stared into each others eyes (or avoided staring lol) as we worked out. The water filter in the ladies room also was on RED and needed to be changed. The gym was a VIBE tho! Kind of like an underground grunge feel. Not luxury to me but it was COOL if that makes sense. It's fun enough to stop in if you are a traveler and doing gym tours. All in all, I liked the gym and had a positive experience there. It's pretty upsetting to be paying for a luxury gym that does not maintain it's equipment and lies to members about it being fixed or replaced and lets it just sit there unusable for members- basic cardio equipment: the elliptical. I joined in October after getting a full tour of the place. Note: there is really no easy elevator access, and most everything is four windy flights down stairs. but out of six elliptical machines, Only one works. three kind of work if you do not mind the clunky motion of the wheels really keeps you from getting any momentum at all. sInce October they said they were getting them replaced every week, but for sure by the end of November. I joined this gym primarily for access to the pool. During my first swim, I noticed what appeared to be a cockroach or water bug in the water, along with visible rust along the pool's edges. This raised concerns about the facility's overall cleanliness and sanitation. After I reported the bug, it was removed and killed with the help of staff and members; however, other swimmers were allowed into the pool immediately afterward. This raised concerns about adherence to proper safety and sanitation protocols, as the presence of such a bug could indicate insufficient maintenance. These issues have remained unresolved for several months, and additionally, there has been no follow-up from management regarding updates or corrective measures. Given these ongoing concerns, the membership does not provide value commensurate with its price. read more

TMPL is the worst GYM I have ever been to ever since the general manager Loren Searle took over his position. Since Mr. Searle became the manager the equipment that gets broken doesn't get fixed as you can see in the photos I attach hereto (ropes, machines, bars, etc.) Furthermore, since he doesn't have any authority capacity, he doesn't act like a boss and leaves that job to his staff who feels entitled to act as the managers, but since they are not paid like him, they are rude to the members. On September 1st, 2025, one of the receptionists called Ari harassed, coerced, intimidated and discriminated me in particular by entering the locker room. While there were five more men naked and getting dressed like me, she just targeted me because of my national origin, race and color. She recorded and took pictures of me without my consent, which goes against the gym policies, but Mr. Searle did nothing to her. On the contrary, one of the trainers who's blond and short came right next to me to intimidate me, while he is always taking showers and getting dressed, after the gym closing time, which he cannot do. This is not the first time that the staff is aggressive. On November 16th, 2024, one of the trainers called Thiernos came into the sauna using his cellphone. I told him he couldn't use it there, because it's one of gym policies and he told me he was going to kick my ass outside. He confessed his guilt and resigned later. Around a month ago, there was a lifesaver called Abigail and while there were other people in the swimming area, apart from me, one minute after the swimming area closing time, she just came to me and threw a chemical in my face, legs and feet. At TMPL, there is sexual misconduct in the showers and saunas approved by the gym staff. I also warned Mr. Searle about this, in several occasions. The most recent was when one member was jerking off in my face, despite my disgust and rejection. At TMPL, everything is also constantly dirty because they don't hire enough cleaning staff. I have complained about all the aforementioned with Mr. Searle in written, like he asked me and he has never asked me for an apology or changed anything. On the contrary, as opposed to the previous manager, he protected his staff. I also complained with Samuel Vascones, who's the trainers manager, about the blond short trainer and while he helped me in the past getting Thiernos confession because he was actively my trainer and didn't want to lose his business, now that we are taking a break from training, he didn't answer or did anything about the blond trainer either. To conclude, TMPL could be a great gym, if the proper leaders would be managing it, but unfortunately not anyone can be a boss. read more

I've been regularly going to the Hell's Kitchen TMPL location for 2024. It's such a nice gym with plenty of equipment and classes. The sauna and steam room are great! There is also a pool for laps I've been meaning to try Last year I mainly used their Lexington location! Personally prefer the Hell's Kitchen because it's a bit less crowded (still crowded in evenings though). The Lexington TMPL has the hot tub and cold plunge along with their sauna and steam room for a full spa day! read more

My fiancé and I went here on a day pass while visiting NYC. I saw on social media people raving about this gym so we had to check it out. Staff was friendly upon entering and made it an easy process to get a day pass. However, $36 for a day pass was a bit much. The lighting is dim, but not as bas as people make it out to be. With that, vibes are very low in the gym, even saw trainers with their hands on their chin looking bored while training clients. So if you like a more quiet gym this is great for you. The equipment was pretty rusted, and where there were plate loaded machines they were all over the ground surrounding the machines. Didn't really have any unique equipment that stood out either. The two floor layout was nice. One floor catering to mainly upper body, and lower floor catering to mainly cardio / lower body. There was a good size pool and had a cool punching bag area. There also was a very good sized Pilates room. The locker rooms may have been the nicest locker rooms I've seen. Very large, clean, and had a cold plunge tub in there as well. There are towels in there for you as well. There is a sauna somewhere but we could not find it. read more

First of all, this location is unapologetically LGBTQIA+. I think the negative reviews have more to do with Times Square hotels giving out day passes here and people expecting a boring corporate gym. This is NOT that at all. I've been a TMPL member for a couple years but rarely leave the Lexington location. With the pools closed there I decided to check this one out. Only complaint is that not all of the salt pool should have been closed off to lane swimming, I wasn't able to wait for one lane to open just to soak. Otherwise it's everything I Iove about TMPL & more. The body diversity on the women's side is even better than Lex, truly all shapes and sizes walking around and being welcomed. Definitly undersubscribed as far as women in general which is a plus. The cold plunge is in the locker room which is also nice. Received a pass from local hotel. Venue was clean, front entry staff were welcoming and friendly, tremendous amount of weight lifting machines and barbells. Pool, steam room, lockers and shower were functioning. When I revisit NYC, I'll stay at that same hotel to access this gym again. It's one of the largest and cleanest I've visited in US. read more

Two years, and this is my main gym. The gym charges way too much for the quality of service they provide. This should be about a 80 per month gym. The facilities are revolting, the men's locker room is constantly a mess (even on the slow days). Grime,hair,bandaids, dirt, mold, mildew.....There is a cracked glass shower partition that has been cracked for years now, the screws that were used to install the shower partitions are rusting, the caulk is pealing off, the locker room and swim area constantly smells like mildew and the stairway from locker room to swim area is always filthy with dirt and grime. They recently "updated" the men's locker room which was a joke. New flooring and cheap fixtures for the sinks and showers (which are already breaking). NO HOT WATER. This happens all the time. In my two years the water has rarely been warm, even on slow days. They blame the landlord but it's a Commercial lease, so like I would just get instant hots installed if I was them or any business with common sense. The new shower fixtures they installed a few weeks ago are already failing because they are cheap and not commercial grade. Some of the fixtures are mismatched to the other parts of the fixture (brushed nickel to chrome).This is supposed to be a LUXURY gym experience and they are failing at even being a decent basic New York gym. Oh an average of three of the eight or so showers are always out of order at any given time. There other locations are having problems with their saunas (read: mismanagement and incompetence with permitting) so this is the only location with a spa right now. It's dingy, but it works. Doesn't feel very luxurious. I'm probably canceling soon because it's giving planet fitness meets NYSC, and it's not worth the expense.. Classes are ok and used to be great but a lot of the good trainers have left since I have joined. They aren't delivering what they promise and they will try to point to the contract and say that parts of facilities may or may not be available at times but they still advertise those parts of the facilities, so they kind of are scamming people. I was in Hell's Kitchen for a month while trying to find permanent housing, so I went to TMPL for a month long membership. The gym get's the job done if you're fine with a pack rat gym. The gym quite dingy, like a Crunch Fitness meets 24 Hour Fitness. Staff is nice, but they don't really follow up with you after you ask some questions and they mentioned they would. When signing up, the membership advisor helped me out was nice, but when I asked a question about needing to cancel our membership immediately since it was a month long membership & it was a 30 days notice, I asked if we would be charged a prorated fee as I was joining the month 5 days into the month. He said he didn't know and would need to ask his manager and get back to me. Never got back to me. Fast forward, two weeks later, I am certain about cancelling my membership because I was unhappy with the gym. At the time when I went to the front desk there was definitely at a busier time, but the staff member that initially helped me wasn't able to help, so she asked me to wait for their customer service manager as he was helping three other people at the time. He did help me cancel my membership and was super receptive about my roommate wanting to cancel his membership as well (but he wasn't there in person), so he gave me a business card, which he also helped cancel his membership. A week later I got charged for a prorated fee for the few days of May. I reached out to the manager who helped me and he stated that he mentioned to me in person, but he definitely did not. I want to be reasonable and understanding that at the time he helped me, it was a busy time, so he probably forgot. However, the way he worded his email to me made me feel as if I was a liar. All in all, I'm sure it wasn't ill intended, just didn't really appreciate the initial false follow up and how the cancellation situation was handled. read more

Went here twice when staying at a nearby hotel (supposed to be $20/day through the hotel although they may have inadvertently given me a discount). I went weekday late morning into lunch hours both times and never had a problem getting equipment; the crowds were well below capacity at those times even during lunch. It's dark and underground and feels like a dungeon club, but the vibes overall were good. Don't panic if you don't see squat racks right away; they're another flight of stairs down in a secret corner. Staff was great. I didn't use lockers or showers so can't speak to those. read more

Been a member for 5+ years and it's gone really downhill. Always very hot with no airflow. Not enough squat racks no matter when I come. Better bring your own barbell pads because there's two and falling apart. The low lighting is nice but they have been replacing those lights with bright white fluorescent lights. The quality continues to decline while rates and membership increases. The AC issue is really the worst. It's 62 degrees outside today, it's prob over 80 in the gym. I've been here for 5 minutes, 2 sets into my workout, and sweating buckets. Sadly this is normal here. I do want to point out that the staff here is absolutely amazing. The hot water comes and goes, the showers come and go (there's one shower in the men's locker room that has been broken for four months now) and the lockers continue to give out -- some of them have been busted for over a year now. And things only get worse. More and more of the lockers are unusable, the locking mechanisms break and don't get replaced. And the creeping dirt. And the increasingly worn out equipment. You keep answering reviews, pretending you'd be happy to look into different situations. Instead you were very unco-operative when I actually did contact you. And, as said in my previous review, you quickly charged an extra membership fee the moment I contacted you. Had to change my billing information and cards to stop you from charging me. I've been over the moon since joining TMPL even though the best parts of it are still closed due to COVID. The Pool, showers and juice bar I would say is the reason I joined and I'm just anxiously waiting for them to reopen but regardless the rest of the gym has been great. Everything's clean in the locker room daily and I haven't had an issue with any of my workouts yet. Max was super great helping me get settled and I just love that I found this place! I believe the negative reviews here were part of an organized hit. I've seen these on Yelp, for other establishments. This gym is a very friendly, easygoing place. Full equipment, many classes, probably the best 25m pool you'll find north of Chelsea Piers, apart from maybe a stray Y pool or two. The place is very clean, there is no problem with heat or humidity. One defect is the hot-water boiler. This was supposed to have been solved months ago. There is some problem with the property management. Overall, this is part of the Worldwide Plaza development (business/residential) that went up 35 years ago at 50th St/8th Ave. And somehow utilities are difficult to fix for that reason. Today the hot water ran out while I was shampooing in the shower. Fortunately I had the conditioner in, and could rinse out in tepid water. The cimmerian darkness is an attraction to many members. What an absolute gem. I've gone to Equinox and NYSC and was honestly very worried to go back to a gym with covid still an issue. However the GM (a gentleman named Paul) walked me through all of the precautions and gave me absolute peace of mind. The cleanliness and amenities and spaciousness (it's BIG) all lend to an extremely safe environment and the equipment - they had a ton of variety and all of it seemed brand new - where I'll never worry about overcrowding which is always a concern in nyc. The staff are really professional and the service they provide goes well above and beyond a normal gym experience. Thanks for giving me a gym to go back to! Overall it's a decent-OK gym. Good amount of weight and not too annoyingly packed -excluding after work hours between 5:00pm-8:00pm. Parts that really need to change: This is where you go to become deaf. They have a DJ that plays loud music where you feel the base as you're working out. Also, there's a downstairs area where they hold boxing classes where it's even louder. You can be on the opposite side of the floor, or upstairs, and you hear the music and count down of "3...2...1!" There is a DJ that really is unnecessary as everyone is listening to their own music/headphones. It's a consensus by other gym goers that they don't need a DJ for that reason. It's so loud I have to turn up my own volume of my headphones to hear my own music ,and I leave having my ears readjust like they left a loud concert/dance club once I step outside. Never seen so many people taking selfies in a gym before. Hands down the most narcissistic gym I've even seen. It's kind of uncomfortably awkward. People vape throughout the gym. Reported it immediately to the front desk, but no action ever follows. The locker rooms are full of guys taking never ending selfies in the mirror and creepers sneaking photos of others. Not sure how the gym can get around this. Positives about the gym: Front desk staff is really nice and always pleasant. Gym is typically really clean.
