If you're looking for a quick, honest review, here it is: Dr. T is a lifesaver for anyone struggling with ANY symptoms related to TMJ and I cannot recommend him highly enough. If you're like me and prefer some details before seeing a specialist, here you go: I have had TMJ for 30+ years due to orthodontic treatment as a teen that left me with awful malocclusion; my back molars do not meet, therefore I have no back bite. I have seen one of the top dentists in NYC specializing in TMJ treatment for years, and the various night guards (and a daytime appliance for stressful times) that I have from him have been rather effective at managing my jaw pain. BUT, until now no one has been able to alleviate other major issues that I knew were deriving from my TMJ--chronic neck pain/spasms, headaches, and challenges breathing chief among them. In fact, many, many practitioners (including medical doctors) told me over and over again that these problems were unrelated to my TMJ. I knew in my gut they were wrong. I am an incredibly well-educated patient, and tried various methods over the years, each of which provided SOME relief: massage, cupping, adhesion release therapy, Myofascial release therapy... (you can imagine how expensive this has all been--I don't dare add up the annual bills as the number would send me spiraling!). There are other treatments I decided not to try but that were recommended, such as Botox and trigger-point injections--somehow I knew they weren't right for me, that they'd be temporary fixes, and that I needed to treat the root of the problem. When I saw Dr. T on Instagram patiently explaining WHY a particular treatment was working, and that he understood all these ancillary problems related to TMJ, I felt some hope. I couldn't be more grateful to be one of his patients. He assesses you as an individual, and treats you with whatever modality makes the most sense. Rather than being a proponent of just one method (cupping, say, or chiropractic adjustments, for example) he has a vast toolbox at his disposal. It was so validating that he understood EXACTLY how my breathing was impacted by my TMJ...and that he has developed ways to help!! Through postural correction, neuromuscular re-education, and targeted physical therapy exercises, Dr. T has helped me more than any other specialist I have ever seen (and I have seen a LOT). To say my treatment with him has been life-changing would not be an overstatement. I could go on and on (clearly ), but suffice to say this: If you are suffering from pain you think is related to TMJ, I strongly recommend scheduling an appointment with Dr. T. (even if he finds your pain is not from TMJ, I'd venture to say he'll be able to help). After trying everything to resolve my chronic TMD--from massage therapy and a dental bite guard to Botox and acupuncture--nothing seemed to stick. My appointment with Dr. T today was very eye opening. Dr. T was very friendly and knowledgeable. He did a wonderful job at clearly explaining in terms anybody would understand what was happening throughout the appointment, what was happening with me physically and what his plans were to correct my TMJD. I walked away with a better understanding of how much all the parts of the body are connected and how different parts work together to compensate for the parts of my body that are struggling. He made sure I was confident that I understood my responsibilities in making my treatment successful and how to complete those responsibilities. He gave me what I believe is a realistic prognosis. I know that it took decades for my TMJD to reach this point of severity, so I maintain a realistic outlook on how much time it will take to correct, but here I am just a couple hours from the completion of my first appointment and I surprisingly already feel a significant amount of relief and comfort, something I was not expecting right away. I began my journey with Dr. Tahir in April to address my TMJ pain, which had plagued me for a year and a half. This place has been an absolute godsend. Dr. T really takes a non-traditional approach to rehab and treatment. He has a very optimistic approach and does a very good job of educating you on what you're dealing with and what he's doing to treat it. He focuses a lot on improving posture and that really goes a long way and making you feel better and healthier. 5 Stars TMJ Physical Therapy - Cedar Knolls, NJ After a traumatic injury that left my jaw broken and wired shut for three weeks, I came to TMJ Physical Therapy barely able to open my mouth. Chewing even soft foods was a struggle--most of the time I just had to swallow things whole. My injury started on March 1st, 2025, after a fainting episode led to a shattered jaw and a seven-hour surgery. By the time I started therapy here, my jaw felt locked and stiff. But now, after just four sessions, I can confidently say things are changing for the better. I can open my mouth much wider, chew real food again--including steak and chicken--which felt impossible just a few weeks ago. I have been suffering from neck pain for years as well as jaw tightness and mild tinnitus. I started with Dr. T in December and it has been life changing for me. I was taking 800mg Ibuprofen sometimes daily, using heat, massage and any biofreeze-all would help briefly but pain and headaches would return. His approach to PT is unique, sometimes painful, and educational. He spends time with you, individualizes your plan and uses techniques that you don't find at a typical PT place. I had never done any kind of physical therapy before, however, I began to experience some shoulder pain and discomfort in my hip. I've had the pleasure of using Tahir for a shoulder injury. He told me straight forward in the beginning that he wants to see me only a few times and that's it.
