I asked around a lot. The boutique guys, preservationists, and artisans mostly didn't get back to me. One failed to inspire confidence. Another guy stood me up. Another wouldn't go into the city. One never got me a quote. Another guy was very nice and knowledgeable but quoted me a price so high that it had me looking at DIYing it. The search was not pleasant. Brick brothers was different. Stephen understood my concerns about the materials and the work that was needed, he showed an understanding of the principles of brick and mortar masonry on par with the fancier guys, and he quoted me a price I could actually afford. My only critique would be that the written quote lacked detail, but we adequately covered the scope of work verbally. It took two Saturdays, and I'd rough guess 48 man-hours. I'm so glad I didn't have to go the DIY route. Now the way brick goes it's probably at least 5 years before one can be certain that the work is right, but based on my conversations with Stephen and my own observations of his work, I'm confident that I'll see no spalling on the repaired areas. And having seen a few rains since the work was done, I can already report that I'm no longer seeing water infiltration in the repaired areas. So for brick repair needs, Stephen of Brick Brothers hits that rare intersection of competence and price which makes his work a great value.
