inconsistent pricing, unreliable scheduling, aggressive communication, threatening and erratic behavior. Pricing issues Chris gave us an initial quote and was very confident, saying that other companies could be ripping us off by including extra work he claimed wasn't necessary. Once the job had already started, he changed his position and said the extra work might actually be needed. He then tried to charge us an additional amount that was higher than the price quoted by other companies we had contacted. Scheduling problems We never got a clear time for estimates or work. I constantly had to ask for an approximate arrival time. When he came on Friday, he worked for less than two hours and then stopped, saying he was "too tired" and would need to come back on Monday to finish. Unprofessional and aggressive communication When I followed up on Monday, Chris said he couldn't come as promised because he wanted to spend time with his kids. He said he could come Tuesday but "don't know when. maybe late afternoon." When I told him I was unhappy with that and the possible additional charges, the conversation escalated. He raised his voice, blamed me for "not letting him be with his kids," and kept yelling. I ended the call to stop the interaction. After that, he repeatedly called and sent a series of long, hostile text messages. In those messages, he called us "ungrateful," for him saving us and our tree, and criticized other tree companies, painting himself as the only one who can do the job. Most concerning, he sent a text saying he would come immediately to "undo" his work and that the tree would "fall and hit the house." Because of how serious that statement was, we told him we would contact the police and take legal action if he intentionally made the tree fall. Erratic behavior About 30 minutes after sending the angry messages and blocking my number, Chris showed up at our house acting like a completely different person. He apologized multiple times and even offered to finish all the work for free. We chose to pay the originally agreed-upon price just to end the situation and avoid further conflict. Sexist and dismissive behavior Chris was dismissive toward me when I asked questions. His tone was noticeably better when speaking to my husband. In one message, he said that hanging up the phone was "not adult-like" and specifically criticized me for "hanging up on men." Bottom line: This was an extremely stressful experience involving unclear pricing, constant schedule changes, aggressive communication, and statements that felt threatening. Chris said that even if we posted a negative review, he "doesn't care" because he is retiring in 2 years and he has enough clients who "love" him. We would not hire Chris again. If you care about clear estimates, reliability, professionalism, and being treated with respect, I recommend choosing another tree service company. read more

I cannot say enough about how satisfied we are with Chris and TLC! Chris performed expert maintenance on the half dozen full grown trees in our yard that had not been cared for well before we brought our house here in Boulder. His pricing was better than the bigger firms that tried to sell us on unnecessary additional services. We had a dangerous dead tree that needed to be removed right away and they scheduled the work less than a week out, amazingly quick response! Chris and his team were incredibly efficient and professional and the communication from estimate to job completion was outstanding. The job required technical work with a crane and navigating large limbs through wires, they are more than capable to handle large and technical jobs and their attention to detail and timeliness is impressive. The cost was very fair and they stuck with the estimate given which is something I have not experienced in years with contractors. Again the whole crew was really terrific and I couldn't recommend TLC more for tree removal and care, particularly if you have complicated and technical projects. read more

Chris and his team responded quickly when we called to get a tree in our front yard pruned. Chris had an estimate for us the same day and the work was done within the week. There was great communication around the cost of the work, what would be involved around pruning the tree and when the work would be done. We were not home when Chris and his team did the work on our tree. When we did arrive home and saw the work done we were impressed with the pruning job and the clean up in the front yard. Chris and TLC took care of all our trees. They were courteous, prompt and showed up when they said they would. They brought in a big truck to trim back a huge neighborhood elm that was precariously overhanging (power lines and) our garage. They also trimmed a bunch of other smaller trees, leaving beautiful crowns and an open look. They treated our ash trees for beetles. I'm certain Chris is a professional. He is in my humble opinion, however, a bit short. Curt, I would say. I had an emergency with a tall pine and was forced to call several tree types in search of the best availability. In that effort I inadvertently called Chris twice, having crossed a few wires on my end. He was having none of that. "How many tree guys have you called" he demanded, just prior to berating me for wasting his time. "I have 2700 clients" and don't need your business. He hung up as I apologized. So be advised. These people are true professionals. They would have made more money trying to save a tree but advised it would not be safe and removed it. The removal process was amazing. Great communication. Great work on the trees. Great care in the trimming process. Clean up was fantastic. They took down my patio lights for me and took random branches/limbs i had but didn't know what to do with and chopped those up with the stuff they cut down.
