The portions are large on everything, including the chips and salsa for starters, but the chips are lukewarm and not even salty, and the salsa is runny red paste. No discernible spice. We ambitiously ordered the Texas margaritas, but didn't realize the promised double shot of tequila arrives in 20 oz of bar mix. It just tastes like chemicals. Sorry to read some of the negative reviews; my wife's and my experience was nothing but positive. We visited Galax for a week of relaxation and (my) not having to cook, so we ate out daily. This place was great. Service was fast, friendly, and very considerate of seating, how the meal was, etc. Simply can't give a better rating to the service. It was fairly early evening (or late afternoon), so no crowd to speak of, but the place was clean, comfortable temperature, and again, no negatives. Food itself was just fine. I've a great Mexican restaurant in my town, and this one is on par, probably a bit more 'American' Mexican, but some folks just can't stand the heat, so I'm sure Tiaquepaque has learned what it's community can tolerate and prefers. I had simple pork tacos, which were excellent; usual (good) beans and rice on the side. My wife had an enchilada plate which was also fine; came with a large plate of guac, salad greens, and I believe rice. The chips were great, salsa was good - and I spiced it up to our level with one of the hot sauces that were on the table. Honestly, it was one of the best meals we had in Galax. Will certainly eat here again when we visit Galax in the future, and that's a pretty sure thing too. read more

Good food @ decent prices. I had veggie fajitas, which was packed with a variety of bell peppers, onions, zucchini, and tomatoes. It came with a half avocado, which was amazing and significantly better than the "guacasauce" that I usually end up with at most Mexican restaurants. The beans, ranch style, were exceptionally delicious. We also ordered the carne asada tacos, which were stuffed with meat, and guacamole dip. Awesome food! The parking lot at this restaurant is always packed and for good reason. The food is fresh and fabulous, plus the prices are extremely reasonable. I don't have a photo of my favorite dish, which is half a pineapple shell full of grilled seafood, but here are some of the other dishes. One of them is the seafood chimichanga. (I'm not sure of the other dish or the name of the dessert.) Notice the size of the plates! They are platters!!! (Just like what you use at the holidays to serve the turkey.) It's a lot of food. The service is wonderful however the Carn Asada was like a piece of shoe leather, tuff, no flavor whatsoever.

We all had chili rellano's and they were way too breaded with a breading that had an off putting flavor. Brought them home and peeled of the breading, added salsa and rice and they were great...but that's not really why we go out to eat, is it? The refried beans were good. Out of towner, we have a Tlaquepaque down my way but I have a preferred neighborhood establishment. That said, in my day in Galax it was a no brainer to go with a name I know. So, the service was just great. I think five people touched our table with chips and refills and such. We had steak fajita, some massive combo enchilada plate, and chicken chimichanga. I eat a lot, lot, of chicken chimis: let me tell you, you can tell just by looking at it it's gonna be dank. Perfect crunch, thoughtful plating, perfect lunch portion. Three eat with drinks and cheese dip for forty and change? That's a good deal and thumbs up from this guy. read more

I've been eating there for several years and the food is usually good, as well as the service. We went there last week and the food was cold on the inside, obviously reheated and the Chile rellenos I ordered were inedible. When our waiter came to heck on us, I told him. He took away my plate. When I went to the register to pay the waiter was at the register. He asked me why I disliked my food. When I told him it was cold and had a bad flavor, he said he would take it off my bill but had an attitude about it. Then he said "Have a good day. You've ruined mine. I'll probably lose my job!" Integrity and amazing food! Juan (one of the owners) greeted us at 9:45, fifteen minutes before the restaurant was going to close and made us feel super welcome. We entered as strangers and left as friends! The food was truly delicious. Three of us had the California burrito, I had the fajitas Texanas, and one of my friends had the pollo relleno. Everything we had was top notch quality and to top it all off the salsa was homemade and one of the best I've ever had. If all of this above wasn't enough I have an even better story to go along with it. While we were at the restaurant one of my coworkers had a size-able amount of cash and checks in his pocket and when we left he had dropped it on the floor and didn't realize. Juan went so far as to call one of the people who had issued the check, who then contacted our office, who then put us back in contact with Juan, and then he personally delivered all of the cash and checks straight to our hotel just up the road. It is truly rare you find a man, a business owner, and even a friend, as honest as Juan. If we are ever back in the area this will be our first stop. Thank you for an amazing experience! read more

We did not choose to do that, rather I had the the Carnitas which is one of my go to meals at Mexican restaurants and my wife had the burrito special. While we waited the nachos were warm and pleasant tasting and the salsa was restrained but was also good. The ambience of the restaurant is not unusual for a Mexican restaurant; it was pleasant. Food is always great. Service from Alejandra had a lot to be desired. We had to ask to be served and later had to ask for refills on our drinks. Asked the server if she was the manager and was told no. Asked why I had to keep asking for service. Wait staff extremely friendly and helpful. I had the Fajitas Texanas and 2 beef tacos and a 28 0z Dos Eqius Amber. My brother in law had a Burrito Supreme and a 28 Oz Dos Eqius Amber. Had to get to go boxes. We couldn't finish it all and we hadn't eaten all day. The A/C was down but they had set up fans so even though it was 90 degrees outside it was still comfortable. We order a lot of food with changes made to the dish and they are always more then willing to do this and they always make sure it's right. The food is great, so is the quantity (big servings especially for the price) and selection at a great price. Always Fast. I will never be eating here again. I went with my family this last week, ten of us, and it was poor service, food, and the worst part? I tipped $5 on a $26 bill and was notified by my bank that it was put in as an $8 tip. This is horrible for any business. I want everyone to know because this is beyond unacceptable. Tlaquepaque has been the Mexican restaurant staple in Galax for over 15 years! It is family-owned and run and offers a large, fun menu and very attentive staff. The food comes out fast, hot and delicious and the servers are quick and friendly. They also have a large backroom that is great for large private parties. read more
