Every time we stayed in Saco, we went there. I had just finished my wonderful trip in Bar Harbor and we found Renys coming home . It's in Ellsworth and we saw it on the way in. It's a good 30 minutes from Bar Harbor. We wanted to come before but when you are doing Acadia National Park and downtown Bar Harbor, you don't have much time. I am glad I came to see it. It is a big store, clean, and they have a great assortment of shoes, clothes, accessories. Always good prices. I wish I had more time, they were closing in 30 minutes. But I got to look around and remember the good old days of shopping in Renys. When in Maine, you have to come. It's a local store, only found in this state and it's truly fun to shop.

You might be able to get items for cheaper if you follow sales, but when you can't find items at other stores, Reny's usually has it. When you're there, go to the spices and seasonings area and buy the Camp Mix. Camp Mix is a salt/Garlic/pepper seasoning that is great for meats, eggs, pasta and Bloody Mary's. The honey/cinnamon is perfect for oatmeal and toast. The Spud flavor is wonderful on pork and chicken. The staff is always helpful and pleasant.

This is a HUGE location and it's filled to the rafters with stuff. Not all of it is good stuff. Some of it is junk. It is the very antithesis of organized. They make some effort to try to be organized, in that there is a row of sporting goods, one of kitchen goods, and another with other stuff. the goods are basically tossed in each aisle leaving the shopper to fend for themselves. the only aisles that offer some form of organization are the hardware, fabric, and flooring section. the rest? Not so much. The fabric section should be mentioned. It's awesome. Last season's (or the season before) fabric at low prices. If you quilt or do any sort of fabric craft AT all you can find some amazing deals in Marden's on fabric. It is also the only area of the store that looks as though it's cleanish. Where you might unload $200 on the same amount of fabric at Joanne's at mardens you'll spend a fraction of that. For $100 you can get enough fabric to make a good sized quilt. This location is also beginning to lose it's shine. After they took over the walmart building it was shiny and new and looked great. The exterior could use a paint job, but I guess they haven't salvaged the red paint yet... The once well maintained lot is heaved and has pits. The interior could do with the floor being washed and a solid dusting. It's not filthy just getting there. Where clothing you'd do yard work in, because you'll be digging around looking for things and it's not clean.

Bean clothing and gear is not incredibly overpriced -the least you can get at the outlet besides a very minimal 30% off is a little bit of good customer servicing, but you're not gonna get that here in Ellsworth. They're all walking around talking to each other and ignoring the customers .What they really care about is pushing the L.L. Bean credit card so be ready for that. Sorry to say, but at this rate, L.L. Bean's gonna join all the others like Eddie Bauer and they're going to end up closing their stores because they charge way too much and the sizing is poor and the customer service stinks. Of course it's geared towards the tourist so that's their saving grace cause people want the name ....Honestly, it's really not worth the money. I looked at a man's shirt that was an extra large that looked like a women's medium. It literally was crinkly like it had been taken home, washed and shrunk and returned, which yes customers do this, but shame on L.L. Bean for putting it back out on the rack that should be donated not re-sold You have to be careful at the L.L. Bean outlet because a lot of the stuff is product that was ordered online or from the catalog that the customer wore washed or used for a year and returned So keep that in mind. Once in a while when they have something at 50% off, it's definitely worth looking at but my grievance today is walking around the store and all the sales women working in there; they Just look at you and walk away and ignore you so i personally don't think I'll be coming back to this store in Ellsworth again. We checked out the LL Bean Outlet (strike one), the Cadillac Mountain Sports store (strike two), but they recommended Curtis Family Shoes because they sold Crocs which is what I had as my water shoes and they were too small for my kid but he liked them. We made it to the non-chain store and asked about the Crocs and told that they don't carry them anymore because Crocs got rid of all their independent shoe store accounts. I did not know this, but the helpful staffer did make some other suggestions for water shoes. The store has quite the selection of shoes from business to business casual to sneakers to hospital worker shoes and boots and they even had a display size 26 shoe. I should've taken a picture... The staff help was very friendly and accommodating. We ended up finding two different brands of water shoes that met our needs for our kids.
