Just like the 2 recent negative reviews about this company, don't be fooled by the man's demeanor…read more Once the contract is signed, his follow up is terrible. I signed the contract in Sep 2019 and it was supposed to be done in 5 weeks. He kept a saying that it was an issue getting the permit from the township. However, it seems that this was all a lie and seems to be more of his lack of follow through with the needed information on his end. (Myself and my neighbor have dealt with the township since and they were very helpful and willing to expedite). He never returns phone calls, texts and emails in a timely manner. Every time you get a hold of him he will always come with some sort of excuse. And now he will not return my full deposit because he bought materials which he has left on my property since September unprotected. He claims that it is still usable treated wood, however, I have met with a contractor and was advised that he would not be able to use the material because it is now bowing. When I asked for a refund he would not return my calls, text, emails until I Cc'd my lawyer that I would take legal action. And now checking his BBB standing it looks like it has dropped to a D and he is no longer accredited. And if you look at his public records he was actually sued and it was settled with a stipulation that the complainant does not make a disparaging remark against him. Hopefully, this review will help others avoid the aggravation.

From a crew member being sick to staffing issues. He would give different reasons but project made ZERO progress. It was a mistake to put trust in him. he kept saying that he would file for permits but he never did. He said he has experience of filing for permits in my town but I doubt that now. After all these months, I can say that James stole my money (A few thousand dollars) that I paid as deposit as he has no intention of returning it.

It is Friday, so I am not unreasonable about getting a call in ten minutes. One hopes the company is busy and working at 17:30. Joe called and is set to come over tomorrow morning. That is excellent. He's not local but Newark is not very difficult. If he hops on Route 24 West to Rt. 287 North, well, it is easy. I'm thrilled -- Luis works and I'll oversee the work, and drag my dad here to make sure they are doing right by us. He just turned 78, but recalls all this kind of work and can get here easily. I can FaceTime him, too. Joe was cheerful and pleasant on the phone, sounds like an excited man and happy to potentially get more work, unlike the two yahoos we tried calling. Hopefully tomorrow will bring us to the next level. I feel good about how quickly he responded. For a first-time caller, this was great!

We hired Derek to replace a cedar deck that was damaged. After getting multiple bids we gave a…read moredeposit in April and were scheduled for work in June. A few days before the job was to start, Derek told us he made a mistake on the cost of the cedar and the materials would now be double the original price. He also quoted us the job would take one day plus a second day to add cement footers. For some reason the two days turned into five and we were also charged more for labor than quoted. The whole project was more than double the quote. Very disappointed in this contractor.

I was referred to Silverman Handyman by another contractor who unfortunately with all the snow we…read morehad this year could not fit me into his schedule in the timeline I needed, he assured me Derek would take care of me. Derek met me promptly at the house the same week and we went over the scope of the job. I thought he was honest and fair in pricing, he advised me some of the things I needed would need to be completed by other professionals and I appreciated those recommendations greatly as this entire renovation has been a mess. To say Derek went above and beyond for me is an understatement, when my project got pushed back again ( :( ) he did everything in his power to maintain his schedule and get me another slot. I would recommend this company for any job you are considering as he is extremely professional and honest/fair. Those are hard qualities to find in a contractor in this area.
