Here's my honest review. I wish there was a different company to choose. The fact there is only one…read morecompany I have to use is astounding. I have had many issues using this company over the past year and a half. Sometimes when I pay my electric bill online, the statement amount wouldn't be removed and when I checked it weeks later it would cause me to double pay. I have to come inside to pay my bill now and the last time I came to pay, the man at customer service said I had a late bill to pay as well. I know I pay my bills on time every month so this was shocking. Upon further explaining, he pretty much couldn't give me a reason why it was late but just said it was late, even though I know I pay my bills on time. I have no idea. These are just a few recent problems I've encountered and not everything. The customer service is usually nice and they try to be helpful but when it comes to the actual company itself and not the employees, I'd pick just about anything else.

They did this around 9am at NIGHT without knocking on my door and letting us know they were entering my domain. In the mean time, they left my gate open and my dog got out! Our puppy of 7 years has now been missing for 24 hours and NO ONE from this company gives a darn. 0 empathy. Empire's rules and regulations state that they EMPLOYEES of empire have a right to enter your domain during DAYLIGHT seasonal hours. They broke both of those rules by sending a CONTRACTOR out to enter my yard at NIGHT!. I have 1 word for you guys........... KARMA! It is real and it will bite you in the tail. I will see you guys in court!

They had an opportunity to take care of our cattle fencing by cutting the tree a certain way to avoid the line but instead they just dropped it, broke our fence and left. Thankfully our cows are smart enough to know where they get there food from and won't attempt to go through the down line. It's going to take us more time now clearing what could have been avoided as we have too many other damages on our property to deal with.

The way these people do business is a joke. Granted, they are the only electric company at the Lake…read moreof the Ozarks, I think. Apparently with these small companies, when you try to change things, or shake things up a bit, it breaks their entire system. All I asked was to put the electricity from my dad's name, into my name. My name is already on the bill, but I decided I wanted his name off. That was the dumbest request I've ever made, I guess. So they made me think so. They said I had to go down to the Lake of the Ozarks, and sign my dad's name off. Then, I told them I live in Independence, MO, and work during the week, by the time I got down there, it was too late. I explained to them that my dad was dead, he died in January of 2009. Then I went through the familiar, "Have your dad come in, and we'll get it changed." WTH...do they not HEAR me? This is the second time I've heard that line, after kindly explaining the situation. Then I explained to them again, and they said, "You'll have to set up a new account. So we'll de- activate him, and activate you." Which seemed to e the last straw before I screamed, which I didn't do. I gave them my address, and I finally received activation papers. I don't utilize the property, and haven't at all this year. But I like to know there's electricity when I do go to his cabin...(Not such a fun place this year without him). So, the property sits without electricity. I have to go through more red tape, due to my decision (which would be easy, if I lived down there. No problem.) to remove his name from the electric bill. With as dumb as they are, having to repeat 2 times I couldn't go down there, (and I wasn't about to loose work time to do it, either), I should've left things as they were. When I explained to them, over the phone that I couldn't go down to the Lake of the Ozarks except for Saturdays and Sundays, and repeated that my dad died in 2009, and they suggested to have my dad come and sign for me, I about lost it. As for the electricity, it is presently off. I will mail the paper today. I will no longer be trying to change things into my name. I'm leaving them as they are. If Southwestern Electric handles all of their accounts, like this one, I feel for those people. I've been paying 25.00 a month for electricity I don't use. They can't say why. Maybe I left a light on or something. When I ask them, and explain that no one is in the cabin, they insist my dad is there, even though I tell them he's not.. These people are really dumb.
