This store has a weird vibe. I kind of felt like I was walking into someone else's basement without permission. The front entryway looks like a garage right before you start spring cleaning and the main room is exactly as pictured -- a bunch of tables with board games on shelves against the walls. I was not greeted by anyone when I entered, nor was I ever asked if I needed help or had any questions. It was even hard to tell who actually worked there because a few different people kept going behind the counter, but then looking at products around the store or sitting at tables. Everyone who was in the store seemed to know each other, so maybe it was just that they were regulars. I came in looking for some dice for DnD and maybe a miniature (after a failed attempt to find both at a nearby store). They had a good selection of dice sets to choose from and they were reasonably priced. They had very few miniatures, unfortunately. The ones they did have were also well-priced -- cheaper than I've seen online. They just didn't have my race/class combo. :( Overall, the board game prices are typical among what you'll find in shops and they had a fairly decent selection. Nice store,great selection of games, and a large choice of magic the gathering cards new and singles. Going to play in a draft later today. Space is comfortable and good prices, customer service is friendly and knowledgeable. Lots of tables and some games to play to try out. Friendly patrons too. I happened into the Gaming Goat shortly after it opened and I have to say, I was impressed. I am not from the Champaign area but was in town to hang out with some friends, got in town early and checked this place out. The store was very clean and well lit, not the dingy place people usually think of with gaming stores. The area as well was very nice with a great nearby restaurant if you are looking for a place to eat between games. Selection was top notch as far as games go. While they were somewhat limited in shelf space, what they had was well used to display a variety of board games, and the owner was quick to assure customers he could get whatever might not be on the shelf. If you are a Magic: the Gathering player they had a great selection of singles, and a plethora of events scheduled throughout the week. The attitude of both the owner and the customers was very friendly and inviting, all are welcoming to newcomers, and eager to discuss recommendations or honest reviews. In short this is what gaming stores should look like, a clean professional looking establishment you can hang out and relax in. read more

I went in last night to get a set of magic cards my little boy wanted for his bday (ordered them online not knowing I ordered empty boxes). The guy working found an older set of similar cards that had some nice extras (and included sleeve covers) sold them to me for a very discounted price and made sure I had all the dice I needed. I've been gaming since the 90s, and this store has to rank as one of the best I've been to for what it does. The space is ample, with multiple tables. Gamers aren't isolated from each other, but neither are you cramped and bumping into each other. I've been here two different days and on both days met other gamers willing to talk with me about their games and invite me to join, and the owners also make an effort to create gaming opportunities. Even got to try out some new games via the owners' personal stash. If you're into Magic and are looking to sell or trade cards, the owners are really good about explaining their pricing system and will answer any questions you have about pricing and rarity. On the one hand, you may not be able to haggle, but on the other hand you know you aren't getting a worse deal than anyone else that walks through the door. I love Titan Games! I really love the atmosphere this place gives off and I also love that you can just walk around and browse. Seriously, not being haggled or lectured on a game for 10 minutes is awesome. On the flip end, if you're in there buying a board game--it seems like the magic folks get all of the workers attention, then it's actually hard to get their help when you need it. Prices are AWESOME. I normally buy my games on amazon for the prices, but I don't like to wait. I feel like I'm paying a dollar or two more than the awesome prices online. I don't mind that, compared to other stores in CU that completely overcharge you up the moon. I am honestly only rating this 4 stars only because over the past year their selection has REALLY dwindled. And every time I've tried to order a game and have it shipped there or when a new game came out, get a notification, I NEVER do. It's like the follow through isn't that great. I don't know what's going on with their stock, but it seems like a new and updated selection isn't the priority. (While the magic stuff is ALWAYS stocked and a priority). Honestly doesn't deter me from shopping here, just won't be as often since they don't have a wide array. Love this place and if you're just passing through or you live here--stop in! read more

I like Gaming Goat better than Armored Gopher. The guys that run the place are incredibly friendly (especially to somebody who's just gotten back into Magic the Gathering) and they've got the cheapest prices in town on MTG booster packs and boxes. I've also sold some cards here- while the prices may be a bit more competitive online, they're pretty good, and they pay cash. The actual store is really nice- there's not a lot of shelf space, and so they have wire on all the walls with board games. It really works well. The tables are all big and clean, and the playing space is bright. I don't like to game in public (because I'm a nerd) but I love going to this place. Downside: occasionally it smells a bit funny. Still a great place to go for games. read more

Top-notch gaming store. I've been to dozens of gaming stores throughout the Midwest, This would be the second best out of about six states in my opinion. Huge selection of boardgames, many of which I hadn't actually heard of. A lot of the basics of course; Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan, Pandemic, etc. Many versions of the even those. Wednesday night is board game night. The place was fairly packed, two role-playing games in front, plus five or six board games going on in the back. Ample space. The proprietor told me that Friday night is their deck building game night, says it's absolutely packed. They also sell basic snacks and such. Absolutely I'm going to be back to this one. Oh, one more thing to add. They have a huge cabinent of demonstration board games to play and browse through before you buy. I've not seen that at other board game stores, and that really peaked my interest. read more

The wife and I stopped at the Gaming Goat while we were on a road trip and passing through Champaign, IL. We had heard a lot about the brand from friends who had purchased board games and magic cards from other locations. We were mostly interested in board games, since aren't really magic players. Often times we would be a party and a friend would bring a somewhat obscure game (aka not available at walmart) and it would be a lot of fun and we'd ask them where they bought it. The answer was usually gaming goat. So, the wife and I being board gamers mostly, decided to check the store out. First impressions: We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon, expecting it would be a slow period where we would have time to browse board games and maybe pickup a game or two. We saw a lot of our favorites friends already owned such as Settlers of Catan, Elder Signs and Arkham Horror and a few others. What really struck me as impressive was how busy the place was. The store had many tables set up and people were playing all sorts of games, though mostly card games. Additionally there were several people at the counter considering picking up individual cards etc. The place looking very happening. The store was very logically setup, clean, and inviting. In addition to the store's appearance looking awesome. It seemed like a great community of people. Very friendly patrons throughout the store. To emphasize the point of how inviting the store was, while we were browsing a couple asked the wife and I to play one of the store demo board games. We joined them and had a lot fun. Even though I ended up losing by getting trapped in the tomb at the end of the game. Talking to the owner: We got a chance to talk to the person working the cash register, found out he was actually one of the owners and that the other owner is a doctor and was out of town at some medical conference. He said they were both long time gamers and brought a lot of experience to the store. As he was helping other patrons he seemed very knowledgeable about the various card games the store sold as well as the board games. He even said that they often hold a board game night once a week which I thought was really cool. They also hold several card game tournaments, additionally he expressed ability to host pretty much any time of tournament/event as long as 8 people were involved. He also made it clear that if there was anything they didn't have in stock that we wanted he could look into starting to stock it. He was very friendly and sincere. Bottom line: The store looks really awesome, but the really impressive point is the community the store has built. This was obvious even to a person who was just passing by. You could see there were many regulars, and that the store was open and inviting. I hope to stop by either this store or a related store sometime soon for new board game recommendations in hopes of impressing my friends with the next new cool board game. read more

Well decided to explore the second game store in my area, Titan Games. I had no idea what to expect here as few gamers I know frequent the other local game store. Titan Games is chock full of various styles and flavors of board games. There was no tabletop miniature stuff, except for the ever prevalent X-Wing mini game that is everywhere now. A crazy amount of board game support! This is sweet as our house is also big supporter of various board games. Then there is the ever prevalent collectible card game stock that all games stores have to sell to keep them in business. Did not see any RPG game support, but there people playing some version of D&D there. Several groups of gamers playing various board game and card games. Typical friendly staff asking for help and game store hang-out people around counter just like every other game store on the planet. Descent location. Descent table space. A lot of nearby and varied food locals for pre- or post gaming. Parking is shared and is sparse when attached store and restaurant are busy. Still will definitely check back every now and again to see what new board games they are carrying. Seems like that and collectable cards are their main draw and one we will benefit from. I stopped by on a Wednesday evening and was a little overwhelmed as it was board game night and the store was filled with tables and people playing games. The selection was good, although a few games were sold out. One of the store employees noticed me browsing games and provided me with recommendations and lots of information. The staff seemed very well versed in their games and there are several games you can play or view in the store. I will definitely be back not only to buy more games, but to learn and play. read more

To begin with I'm usually very critical of establishments when I first go there. What I noticed upon arriving at the goat is it's clean, very clean. Tasteful hardwood flooring and plenty of display space. It has a glass front which often can lead to excessive heat in the entryway but it was comfortable. Upon entering I was greeted by one of the owners, Mark. He was personable and very comfortable to talk with, we chatted about Magic the Gathering and various events that would be going on in the future. As we moved towards my transaction I was met with care and our discussion was friendly and polite, my biggest pet peeve in any business is a lack of understanding in how to approach and then treat a customer. I tend to make large purchases about 3 times a year in my game stores and then smaller ones throughout and will usually direct others to said store if they handle themselves well. This was one of those places. I highly encourage any of the locals to visit the Gaming goat and experience what is undoubtedly a top notch gaming experience. With it's environment and classy decor, it's a place you could take your kids to, or a place the kids can take their parents to. As an added bonus, there is a rather tasty smelling Mexican place right next door if you get hungry. In short, they had what I needed at a reasonable price, the customer service was fantastic and I had a good time. I drove over an hour and a half to see if the Goat was what I was looking for and it turned out to be more than I expected. I highly recommend. read more

I love this place. People working here are nice! They have all kinds of events for Magic Players. Also a friendly place for children and family since they had alot of board game choices. I just hope they will find a new yugioh judge so we'll also have weekly local tournaments there as well! read more

I stopped by this store with a friend the other day. He was hoping that he could sell a tarmagoyf card he'd found in his old magic cards. It was lightly played- there was a tiny bit of wear on one corner but it was barely noticeable. The card had been sitting untouched in a box for years. The guy at the counter insisted that it was heavily played when it clearly wasn't. He was very blatantly trying to fool us but doing a horrible job of it. He tried to use "I see cards every day" as some sort of excuse as to how he would know better than my friend, who had researched tarmagoyf's value and what sort of damage would make a card worth less. He had even taken it to another game store previously who agreed it was light played, though they weren't interested in buying it at the time. In the end he was offered $95 for the card, which is valued at roughly $175 if it's lightly played. If that's how this store treats their customers we're happy to take our business else where, and I would suggest you do to if you're thinking about selling your cards here. Otherwise it seems like an ok store- there's the same products as any other game store in the area, but it also has a decently sized gaming community. read more

Great place for just going, stopping in, and if you're passing through. I go about once a week, and there are always people in there. I would probably say that it is the best game shop in Champaign! The owner, Mark, as well as his employees, help with people's decks, teach people how to play, and are always happy to play with you. They also have a large amount of events going on every week for Commander League to Board Game Night. One thing, though: this IS a mainly Magic: The Gathering-based shop. read more
