So, I was out of my whiskey & stopped at Applejack, & guess what ??? My whiskey was $8.00 "CHEAPER" there than @ Tipsey's!!! Wife's vodka was $7.00 dollars "CHEAPER" than @ Tipsey's. Folks, we are being "ripped of" @ Tipsey's !!!!! I have to drive 40 miles to get our beverages, but I will drive an extra 10-15 miles to save those dollars. I don't usually spend a lot of time having fun, i.e. drinking in Kansas because bad things tend to happen. Now, I'm not saying that the Kansas side, more like Johnson County area, of this fair metropolitan area is bad, but it just seems that bad things happen. Kansas friends, I don't know how you do it. Regardless, I have more and more friends moving that way whether for work, kids, both, other, etc... and sometimes they want to have fun so I'm around more often. Here's where Tipsy's Liquor fits in. It's pretty well smack dab in the middle of some friends and the perfect place to stock up for whatever occasion I'm attending. And believe me, Tipsy's provides PLENTY of options. Beer: If you can think of it and it's distributed in Kansas, there's a good chance it's in the freezer or on the floor. They had all of the major players plus seasonals and even some limited releases. Liquor: About half the store is devoted to your harder alcoholic loves. I don't have a super hard liquor palate, but they do have what I like. If you're looking for some of the harder and top shelf stuff you might call and ask, but there's a good chance it's in here. Wine: The other half of the floor plan is filled with wine. I've noted in earlier liquor store reviews that I'm not much of a wine drinker and this review doesn't change that, but I do believe with the amount of wine on the floor that there's a very very good chance you'll find what you're looking for. Last, but not least, I don't want to forget the staff. They're great. I walked in one time looking for a hard-to-find seasonal that the distributor's website said was stocked here. Looks like I was a little late, but after the staff looked to see if it was stocked, they told me normally when it ships so I could plan for next year and then suggested about three or four other beers that were similar to what I was looking for. I became a regular at Tipsy's back in 2009 when I was living in Fairway and a friend got me into craft beer in a major way. Living near the Johnson Drive corridor, pre-gentrification (okay, I know that's a stretch, but you get the gist), Tipsy's was the only liquor store of size anywhere to be found on the Kansas side of the state line. Tipsy's is awesome - great selection and quantity of offering of all types of adult libations, friendly employees who are quick to offer to assist, bright and clean space, good location, fair prices, and good hours. I'm mostly interested in high-end craft beer, and they seem to get just about anything and everything that distributes to this part of Kansas, so it's a reliable place to go for rarer items. Tipsy's is now a 20 minute highway drive north of my current location, yet I still find myself going there over closer options like the new Lukas Superstore, purely out of loyalty and the attributes I listed off above. read more

Today I went in there, while Johnson county has a mask ordinance and found two people wandering around without a mask. As far as I could see no one asked them to leave or put one on. We were in Mission already, and I was doing a "search nearby" , and felt compelled to check out Tipsy's. It wasn't even that we needed to go to a liquor store. But the reviews I saw motivated me to pop in, & check the place out for myself. I am glad that I did. Everything I read was validated with my own real life experience. VERY good customer service. Wow. And because the selection at Tipsy's was so good, we DID end up walking out the door with not just one but multiple purchases. I did the walk through, starting on one end, aisle by aisle, and browsed the entire store. And I really was impressed. I managed to find everything I would have wanted , AND additional items that i did not even know existed. I will definitely be going back, even though Tipsy's is not in my neighborhood. If you are looking for gifts - you will find something. Absolutely stop by Tipsy's if you are in need of a beverage related housewarming type gift. They have everything; including the small sample gift sized options. We had a great customer experience. And on my 2nd to last aisle, I caught of glimpse of the cold case beer options - and saw some gluten free beers and ciders. A VERY LARGE selection of them, too. I really like their name, for starters. And although this isn't the closest liquor store to my house, it is the closest to my work, so I've gone here before after work to get a bottle of wine or a six-pack. It is a pretty large store and has a pretty good selection, but it never seems busy when I am in there. The staff seems slow to acknowledge you, but they usually have what I am looking for. They just opened in October of 2008, so it might take a while for business to start up. They are located where Hollywood Video used to be, in that strip mall called 'Broadmoor Square'. A few of the other local liquor stores have nicer staff, but they really don't have the selection that Tipsy's has. I'd recommend going here if you want a lot of choices or have a rarer choice in mind. read more

I had high expectations going into this new location, but I will admit that I struggled to build a six pack. No offense to Tipsy's but I think it's because I have tried most of the stouts and porters they had available in a single bottle. However, I was expecting to see different choices that I wouldn't typically be able to find anywhere else. Great customer service and a large selection of wine and beer. The first time I went to Tipsy's I wanted to get a bottle of wine for my wife. It was our anniversary and I wanted to get her a unicorn, but I couldn't find one so I settled on a bottle of wine. After a few minutes walking around like a dumbfounded ogre, the staff asked me if I needed any help. I know nothing about wine. Isn't it grape juice? Anyways, I told them a price range and some characteristics of wine she likes. They gave me a couple of suggestions and I finally settled on one. It's wasn't a unicorn, but she was extremely happy. I've gone back a few times since then and have always got great customer service. They have a variety of beers and I enjoy creating my own six pack. When you're the go to liquor store for the Vard family, you've got to be good. Since I'm a beer blogger, I tend to be a pretty demanding customer. I always want the newest beers and usually have a couple of questions. Not only are my questions almost always answered, they're answered correctly and with courtesy. The selection at Tipsy's is top notch for beer and wine. The customer service is top notch and very knowledgeable. The most negative thing I can say about Tipsy's is that they aren't typically the cheapest option for everyday items like a Boulevard 6 pack or a nice bottle of table wine. They're competitive, but rarely the cheapest. That's not to say there aren't bargains to be found at Tipsy's, they're just a little harder to find. I don't think you're going to find a liquor store in town that combines great, knowledgeable customer service with a large selection. read more

Only down side that it is all the way over in Mission and their prices tend to be higher than most competitors. Also, large contigent of Jayhawk fans work there. So that sucks. I must frequent there a lot because I walked in there one Saturday evening and the guy at the counter called me by my first name and asked if I had liked the Sauvignon Blanc that I got the last time. I love this place because they have a great selection and have great customer service. They are always friendly and polite. This is one of the two liquor stores near my home that I visit often. I mean, if I bought liquor often I would come here all the time. That's if I made frequent trips for booze. This store has an easy layout and well stocked shelves. I don't know what temp they keep their coolers at, but I'm pretty sure they are a little cooler than average. I reserve the right to be wrong. The staff here is friendly and inviting. In the unheard of event that I cannot find something the gentleman have always been accommodating. I enjoy coming here. The reason why this is relevant is because my boss told me that he had noticed that I check in often to a liquor store called Tipsys, and was it necessary for him to host an intervention. This place is right on my way home from work. I hate cliches, but dudes. A hop, skip and a jump away. They have an excellent selection of wine and beer, you can mix and match six-packs for a low price. I feel like the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. We buy a lot of beer there and while their import prices are on par with most liquor stores in the area, their domestics are much cheaper. I love this place. And no, boss. Tipsy's is probably the closest liquor store to our house, which means that we've been in a few times since we moved to the area. While the beer selection is great (and has allowed my husband to stock up on some of the Sam Adams special edition beers like the very tasty Verloren), I have to say that the prices on liquor are substantially higher than other places I have found in the area. The guys working in there are always very nice - friendly, and willing to help out or suggest a beer or wine you might like based on your purchases, which is awesome. (I'm always up for trying something new!) There's also a wide selection of pretty much any alcohol you'd possibly want (even in the little "travel size" bottles), which is cool. So, for beer and friendly customer service, Tipsy's is definitely great, but if I'm buying liquor, unless I'm feeling SUPER lazy, I'll head elsewhere and save myself a few bucks. read more

Finally, a decent wine story in Mission! We've been coming to town for years to visit our son. It was always a challenge to find a decent wine at a good price. On our recent visit, we hit three other stores and finally found something we could bring to the house. Then our son told us about Tipsy's. This is an unbelievable gem - a modern-day liquor store design with a great collection of wine, easy to navigate display and economical prices. I have stopped by Tipsy's Liquor three times since moving to Kansas City, and have been pleased each time we stop in. I can't help but validate what everyone else has said, their customer service is top notch. Not over the top, but just right. We are always greeted when we walk in, they are there to help but don't hover, and I've always had a conversation at the register with whoever was working. Usually about my out of state driver's license (still)! They all seem very laid back, but knowledgeable. Huge walk in refrigerated section, clean store, and easy to navigate through without the awkward open spaces I've noticed at a lot of liquor stores? I can't comment too much on the price because I don't purchase alcohol on a regular enough basis, but I haven't ever been taken back by the prices. read more

A good place to go if you plan to get, well, tipsy. Sorry, I had to. I live pretty close to this place, and have been going there frequently for craft/specialty beers. My tastes tend to lean to a couple extremes - super hoppy IPAs and very malty stouts and porters. The selection at Tipsy's isn't quite as vast as the selection at Lukas, but being close to home and also being very affordable make this place a hit for me. I was just in there yesterday looking for something new, and ended up having a ten minute conversation with one of the employees about different beers we've both tried recently. The staff here has always been super friendly and very helpful if I have any problems. I love that they keep Modus Hoperandi and Hop Stupid in stock, and they also keep a good rotating selection of seasonal brews. read more
