What a great place! I was in town for work and picked this restaurant because it had the highest rating on Yelp. I can see why! It's a cute place, decorated with many cool paintings, I took pictures of a few. It's like a little Italian bistro inside. My waitress was super sweet and attentive. The menu is robust. There were many items I would want to try, but given my limited time I went with the chicken Caesar salad. It was a perfect lunch portion and the chicken was lightly blackened. It was so tasty! I also ordered their bread basket, which was two pieces of grilled bread. It was a perfect side for the salad. I stopped in here following a round of golf nearby on a Friday evening. They were able to seat our group of 10 quickly. The first thing that strikes me was the many great options on the menu. You know the feeling, when there are as many as three entrees you can't decide on that appeal to you. That's a sign of a top notch restaurant. We started with the Ahi Tuna appetizer. I wish I could have ordered this as an entree it was that good. I went with the Ribeye French dip sandwich. It was quite good with a hearty amount of slim sliced ribeye and au jus that I wanted to dip my napkin in and eat it. We used to love Tipsy Bear. Great food, friendly staff, not any more. Ordered the stuffed salmon. Way over cooked. Asked for a new dinner and they just placed the old salmon on a different plate without the stuffing! We were even told by the manager that's what the kitchen did. Not acceptable! Beer selection was pretty good. Table side manor was lacking. I can't tell you the waitress's name because she never introduced herself. She also never asked us if we needed anything during our lackluster meal. The short rib tacos description on the menu is nothing compared to what was delivered. GLUTEN FREE. Olivia was my server and she was so great!!! She knew the menu so well and was able to guide me. I wish I took pictures but my phone died and I was starving. The gluten free bun was so buttery, fluffy, and huge that I had to double check that it was gluten free. I had a grilled chicken sandwich with mashed potatoes (no gravy) and I'm highly reactive to cross contamination. My stomach is so, so happy. This is the best meal I've had in months. The mashed potatoes are beyond real. Chunks of potato and deliciously creamy chunky. I can barely eat out with my food allergies and I had absolutely no reaction here. Olivia knew about any items that had cross contamination and if you're gluten free, there's so many options. So, so many. An awesome spot. Epic in my opinion. We love this place, it's just a comfortable place to dine. We went there for Valentine's Day and I and I had the 24 ounce medallion steaks with butter, garlic sauce on one and mushroom onion sauce on the other. They were fantastic, the meat was incredibly tender. My wife had the Diane with mashed potatoes and her review was just as good. We were met at the door right away and a nice gentleman seated us. Love this hidden gem in West Branch Mi. The tomato soup is exceptional! Salad fresh and homemade dressings outstanding. The entrees were fabulous! Came in at 7:45pm after being on the road for 8 hours (still had 2 more hours to go) was treated great even when first waitress didn't want to take our table 2nd one came in and saved the day! She was great! Accommodated us and five other tables while the older lady grumbled how she just wanted to go home!! The behavior of the manager regarding a Service Animal assigned to a Veteran was and remains unacceptable. The manager berated the veteran questioning his need and validity of the service animal even when presented all of the State of Michigan credentials. The manager also stated that since her daughter was disabled and did not have a service animal he shouldn't either. This was the worst I have ever been treated and belittled over not only my service but also the questioning of my integrity. While the owner can say whatever they want, it does not negate the facts or validity of the events reported. I am usually hard pressed for a 5 star but based on the food and service I couldn't give anything other than a five!! Mary was a fabulous and attentive server. I won't go through our food because it was all delicious!! And I'm not exaggerating either (ictures attached). The atmosphere is a mix between bistro and wine bar and maybe throw in a little Italian to boot! It's comfortable but might get noisy if it were full. We came at 1ish so it was pretty quiet. Prices are typical and for the quality is the food, well worth it! Parking is a little tight but there is ample parking across the side street. I want to make another day trip just to eat here and try something else. Checked in here tonight and was delighted to discover a 10% off entire bill coupon on our phone for our visit. Devin the bartender provided us with courteous and prompt attention. Lately we have felt ignored by bar wait staff as we are not drinkers and only there to eat but we did not feel that way this evening. Food quality was excellent. My quesadilla and southwest salad was extremely flavorful and my wife had a couple of filet medallions that were both cooked perfectly with amazing flavor. Her veggies were also very good. I have never had a problem with getting high quality great tasting meals. The small issue I had today was we were finished with eating we were given the bill and the waitress never returned. I've taken many friends here and it's always been amazing! Fred (owner) is super friendly and so knowledgeable about wine. He really is a vested owner...always working his butt off, appreciative of his customers and staff. Jimmie behind the bar was a hoot ! Tipsy Bear is an interesting place. I honestly don't know what it is trying to be. Inside it's French bistro meets Italian villa meets wine bar. The food is ok but I've never had anything I would say is real good but I also have never had anything I would say is bad either. Edible is probably the best word I can come up with. Service is pretty decent. The servers all seem friendly and the atmosphere is nicer than most other places around town because it's something other than a burger bar. They have an eclectic menu. Coconut shrimp, pastas, steak, etc. One of the frustrations I have had is that they often seem to be out of things. I have to say that the owner is super friendly. Chatted briefly with who was manning the smoker on the way in, which I assume may have been the owner. Along the back side he had tomato plants and herbs growing in pots. Tipsy Bear Bistro offers good food at a good price but falls flat in the end. On a trip up north, my family decided to visit the restaurant on the way to our destination. We were excited to try the restaurant as it had high reviews on Yelp. Upon entry we were informed that because we didn't have a reservation we would have to eat outside. I recommend booking a reservation if you're interested in going to this restaurant. Outside seating was fine but there were quite a lot of flies in the area. Our server was great and took our drink and food orders promptly. The food came out very quickly. My husband and son loved the tomato bisque. We ordered the grilled cheese with tomato bisque and french fries, ribeye steak boursin and french fries, and the burger and french fries. All came out within 10 minutes of ordering. The rib eye was tender but very thin. It had a great flavor. The burger was gigantic and too much for one person to eat. It had a good flavor as well but could have used more barbecue sauce. We checked in on Yelp and we're given a 10% off coupon. The coupon states that it is 10% off our order but after reviewing our bill we found that we were only given a flat $1.75 off of the bill. It's great to give a coupon when checking in, but I do feel that the coupon should be honored as it reads and not just a flat $1.75. The restaurant also charges a 4% fee for using a credit card which we were a little bit disappointed with. As we were exiting we went to the restrooms and they were completely filthy. The issues with payment and restrooms resulted in my three-star rating instead of a five-star rating. read more

Stopped in to try Tipsy Bear as I have heard great things about it. A cozy little restaurant in the downtown area. It was busy, but we were able to get a table for our party of 4(3 adults and 1 very hungry 12 yr. old). The waitress came by and took our food order. As we sat at our table, we watched customers come in after us, get seated, get their food before us. I figured they ordered appetizers, so I didn't think much about it. We were at the one hour mark before our waitress came to our table and realized that we didn't have our food. She went to check on what the issue was and reported back to our table that the kitchen staff had gotten slammed and somehow our order was missed. She told us that it would be another 5-10 minutes, but by that point, we were over it. We told the waitress we wouldn't be dining and ended up paying for our drinks ($16 for 2 pops and 2 Arnold palmers). While I am upset at how our first time at Tipsy Bear went, I hopeful that we can give them another try in the future. read more
