Nice and quiet area for a weekend getaway. 5-10 mins drive from nearby small town with grocery stores, restaurants, drive in theater, a lake with fishing, boating and swimming. We stayed at the cabin which is perfect for what we were looking for. It's a very good size cabin, nice furniture and bunker beds, and clean washrooms. My 1.5 year old girl had a great time. There's no signal for T-mobile nor wifi, although there's signal for Verizon here.

Great place to camp and the trails are amazing. Reserving a spot is easy, just go online to http://bit.ly/tippecanoeRes and select which type of campground you're looking for. Pay online and you're set. Getting into the park is $5 per vehicle, but I have an Indiana DNR pass ($40) which is valid for any State Park - if you're into hiking and go to state parks a lot it's well worth buying one. The campgrounds are about 3 minutes from the gate house and plots are numbered, look for the numbers on the electrical hook ups or stanchions. The electrical hook up has a 480 and the standard 120/208 outlets. Most 'Driveways' are well maintained crushed gravel and back up to a picnic table with a fire pit/grill a few yards away. II personally wouldn't use the grill section (way rusted) but, it's there for you. The make sure you clear the area where you plan on setting your tent, crab-apples and rocks aren't too comfy under your back. Other than that it's phenomenal. There are also several Comfort Stations with hot showers available too, relatively clean and no mold/mildew stains either. They also have some vending machines with the typical soft drinks. Firewood can be brought in or bought at the entrance to the camp area. There are several Trails to choose from near the campgrounds, trails 1, 3, 4 and 6 are beautiful especially in the evenings. Do watch out for horse droppings on trail 1 though... landmines everywhere. The Waterfowl area off trail 6 gets pretty buggy in the mid afternoon/evening so be prepared to itch and scratch unless you've got some bug spray. But, when all is said and done this place is great, definitely one of the best campgrounds and hiking areas I've visited.

    Comfort station from site 101.

We camped here for Father's Day weekend. We wanted to camp at Indiana dunes but it was totally full. This park was nice. There are nature preserves and wetlands. We saw several snakes in the wetlands as well as a painted turtle. (Don't worry, nothing spotted In the campground) We rented two sites adjacent to the shower house, just like we always do. Both of our sites were nice. There are just enough trees. We stayed a total of three nights. It was amazing when all the campers left on Sunday and we had the place almost to ourselves. So, if you can I'd definitely suggest going during the week. The shower house itself is well maintained. Now, if you are expecting the ritz, prepare to be disappointed. It's a community shower in the woods. But the DNR does a great job of keeping it up. There is not a camp store at this location, but there is a campground host selling firewood and ice. There are also several stores just a few minutes south on 35 where you could get supplies. If you come from Indy you should pass them on the way there. We drove up to Lake Michigan one of the days we were there. It's just over an hour away. Overall we had a great time and will be back again.

There is ample parking once you get in though. The park has a little lake that you can swim in (if a lifeguard is precent). Around the beach/lake is a walking path, that does get a bit narrow in some parts. It is paved and well maintained. There is also covered pavilions around the park there are 4 decent sized ones with grills. One even has a patio that overlooks the beach/lake.In addition to the large and medium sized pavilions, there are a few personal sized ones scattered about the park. At the front of the park is an adequate baseball field. It is well groomed and ready to play on. Next to the ball field is a full basketball court. It is nice and has a smooth new looking deck. The rims are in good repair and have adjustable heights. I would love to shoot a few airballs here. In the back of the park is a dog park that is basically a fenced in area with a bench placed in there for you to sit and watch your pooch frolic. Behind the entrances to the lake is a sand volleyball court that needs a little TLC. The net was down while I was there, but did not look like it would take much to get the court back up and running. The park has two playground areas. The bigger of the playground areas is next to the baseball field. It has some pretty updated and newer equipment including, see-saws, merry go rounds, rock climbing walls, swings, rocking animals, a saucer swing and slide. The ground is covered in wood chips and has rubber mats in high traffic areas such as under the swings. The playground is very impressive. The other playground is by the lake entrance and is ok, but not as nice as the one on the other side. It has a set of the older style swings and a small jungle gym with a slide. Both play areas are accessible though, which is cool. I really like this park and was surprised that this is the first review. You can spend an entire day here and not even know it. There is a lot to do and it is a very relaxing place. It is well maintained and has a friendly staff. definetley a must visit.

What I like best about the park are the mature trees that provide lots of shade. Some of the trees are over 400 years old. There is a huge colorful playground with climbing structures, swings and slides. The base is a mix of mulch and soft matting. Benches line the area for parents to sit and watch kids . (The equipment could use a good cleaning from the trees.) There are two ball diamonds with bleachers within the park. A beautiful stream that meanders through the park attracts fisherman. Tree-covered picnic areas are scattered along the creek. The Vermont Covered Bridge spans the creek and is open to pedestrian traffic. There are restroom facilities near the playground. Right next to the display was a playground suitable for all ages. The slide is a bit high, and it seemed old, but in good condition. There are also covered picnic tables in the area.
