The roads are a little confusing if some of them are one way or not. The waterfall area is quiet and pretty. They had some picnic tables. There was a staircase to view it closer and the stairs were a little sketchy. The beach area was pretty wide and we found space. They have a little snack area and a dive center. They also have an inflatable obstacle course for purchase. The restrooms were messy and smelled. The beach was clean and they had trash cans. The quarry water was clear and the water was nice. They have primitive camp sites and electrical sites. We saw that most of the electrical sites seem to have full time residents there. Overall it's a great spot to check out and relax at.

Approximately a quarter of a million people attended the celebration. Today, a historical plaque commemorates the event. Callaway Park is a central gathering point for the community of Elwood. The town has celebrated annually the Elwood Glass Festival in the park for over fifty years, bringing in thousands of visitors. The park offers several playgrounds with older and newer equipment. There is a lovely covered brick pavilion with picnic tables and restroom facilities. There are two gazebos which host concerts and other events. There was a church service in progress during my Sunday morning visit. The park is spacious with lots of mature trees providing shade. I loved walking through the park. People were friendly. There's history and plenty to do.

The park was donated by and is named after Henry Callaway and dates back to 1917 There are two entrances/exits to the park and an ample amount of parking. The park features a small amphitheater with seating, a gazebo, a large shelter with restrooms, and two small shelters with picnic tables under them and grills just outside of them. You will find a bunch of picnic tables and benches all over the parks grounds. There is tons of green space to play, an outdoor volleyball court and the park is home to a very extensive play ground. They have a fenced in playground for smaller kids with a merry go round, a small slide, a spinning net climber, rocking animals, and monkey bars. There is so much playground equipment here, all over the park. It has one of the tallest metal slides that I have ever seen at a park, there are a few banks of swings, giant tires to climb on, pebble bridges, a spiral slide, net swings, monkey bars, merry go round, a dome climber, a jungle gym, a log roll, a large play set structure, a rocking raft, an expression swing, see saws and a stand up swing. Like I said, it is a bunch of equipment, that is spaced out over the park. It is not the most modern equipment. But it is well maintained and in decent shape. Most of the equipment is constructed out of sturdy steel or aluminum. There are a couple of baseball fields on the park's outskirt. I am not sure if they are park of the park or not though. They are decent fields that would be good for some little league ball. Across the way from the park you will find the Birch Bayh Community Center. They have a couple of decent basketball courts over there. The tennis courts over there need a little TLC though. I was very impressed with this park, which is saying a lot, because I am more of a modern park guy. They host concerts, sporting events, and second harvest food banks. It would also be a nice place to jog. The park has a nice paved trail that winds though it. I would consider this a destination park and highly recommend checking this place out if you have the opportunity to.

Tipton City Park is a 30-acre park located on Tipton, Indiana's southside. The park includes a…read morewalking trail, recreational facilities, flowers, benches, picnic tables, quite a few mature trees, and two foot bridges that cross Cicero Creek. There's a fenced in play area for toddlers and quite a bit of playground equipment. Tipton City Park was established in 1914. Because of its location, features like a golf course, baseball diamonds, various game courts, a swimming pool, a Boy Scout Cabin, and other features are within walking distance from a nearby hospital, Fairview Cemetery, the schools, and the Tipton Historical Society's Heritage Center. You can rent the Boy Scout Cabin and pavilions. There's also a gazebo available for rent. Tipton City Park is clearly one of the main recreational spots for the city of Tipton. It offers a ton for children and youth - it's also pretty darn good for adults with the gazebo frequently being a spot for special events and musical events. This was a fairly quick stop for me this time around, though I went by it a couple of times during my recent Tenderness Tour event. Located on SR 19, Tipton City Park is super easy to get to if you're in the Tipton area. While it's not a fully accessible park, it's surprisingly solid and I had very little difficulty getting around the park.

Shaded pavilion with picnic tables over a little walking bridge. While not pristine concerning the muddy floor or sink full of grass and dirt, the ladies' room had a clean flushing toilet and not an outhouse type hole. It was stocked with tp, soap, and paper towels. The faucet is one you have to hold down with one hand to use. While understandable so that running water isn't left on, it doesn't give me a sanitary feeling touching it. The door locks but has a good one or two inch open gap that would make me uneasy if alone. I don't care for hand dryers, but it had one of those if you're so inclined to use it and coat your hands with bacteria. I can usually see kids playing football or basketball on the grounds as well as people walking in the wooded areas, some of which is hilly. At least one hill has a cement stairway. I would avoid the small driving bridge that goes over the creek to the pavilion as it doesn't give sturdy vibes. Some trimming is needed near the entrance to better see oncoming traffic while exiting. While it isn't the nicest or most exciting park I've seen, it's not bad. There is a quieter side as well where you can drive, park, and observe the squirrels for entertainment. It seems like a lot of picnic tables in that area have been removed, but it has places to pull off and park as well as convenient garbage cans. The parks in Peru are sometimes the only thing to do around here.

There is a basketball court, a next door disc golf course (at the top of the hill), and in winter, I can imagine one sensational sled ride down the open side of the hill. There is plenty of parking and a permanent restroom facility. There is a creek bed that is bridged to allow passage during the rainy months. It appeared that there was some maintenance work being done on the grounds (drainage?) while there, so it seems that the park is being taken care of. This one has a pioneer village with log cabins, a museum (which was closed for a private event during my visit), and canal boat rides. The village is open to walk through and includes the Case Reed House which was moved from downtown to this site around 1986. The house was converted to a hotel for travelers after being a private residence. The canal boats are colorful and provide guided tours for those who wish to take the trip. I didn't have time to go on the ride, so I can't say how much it costs or how often the rides leave the dock. There is also a trail that runs through the park along the canal. This is a nice piece of local history from an era when Indiana thought it could be a navigable transportation area with the help of canals. Review #2792

An isolated nature preserve in the middle of farmland, flanked on the southwest by a hog farm and…read moresurrounded by fields. A parking area for 10-12 cars sits at the county road and a short flat hike along a maintained turf chute leads between to fence rows to the square-shaped preserve. Lots of trees and relatively few undergrowth problems. The tree canopy is very high, common to this type of old growth native lands. Surprisingly good visibility through the trail and forest floor. This location is not far from the small town of Mulberry but is nonetheless remote. I visited alone with my dog. If I return I will bring a hiking partner. Terrain is mostly flat with some soft spots and exposed roots. The trail is visible but not maintained beyond clearing fallen trees. Thank you Indiana DNR for preserving this area and maintaining it for public access.

The Monon High Bridge Trail is part of Delphi, Indiana's 10+ mile system of historic trails that…read morerun throughout the city that rests alongside the Wabash and Erie Canal. The trail became an infamous part of Indiana's crime history on Valentine's Day in 2017 when teenagers Abigail Williams and Liberty German were murdered on the trail after having gone there for an afternoon of hiking on an unseasonably warm February day in Indiana. I must admit that I hesitated to add the trail, a previously popular trail on Delphi's Eastside that seems to be mostly used at this point by those seeking some sort of closure in dealing with the crime and by other curious Hoosiers. For a smaller city, Delphi has a rather nicely developed trail system. Since the tragedy occurred in 2017, Delphi has been making tremendous strides in raising funds and working toward further enhancing the safety of its trails. As a longtime activist in the area of violence prevention, I've long been outspoken about violence involving children and the Delphi killings struck me particularly hard as it was right around the time I was doing one of my Tenderness Tour events. Over the past year, I'd wanted to try to wheel this trail, knowing that it wasn't quite as developed as I usually try to stick to, but it has never felt quite right given the tragedy and my overwhelming desire to not exploit those involved. Having done a recent event, however, I had the opportunity to visit Delphi and to wheel this trail without any publicity and with no commercial attachments. While I am not connected to Delphi, Abby, or Liberty, like many it felt very personal. The trail is a 1.5 mile trail accessible by the abandoned Monon Railroad and from County Road 300. There is some parking available, though I should say up front that neither the parking area not the actual trail would likely be considered wheelchair friendly. The parking area isn't paved - it's more natural dirt/gravel road with a gravel pathway to the actual trail that is actual gravel and not crushed stone. It's not an easy wheel. You can tell you're in the right place if you see a Centennial Stone dedicated to General Samuel Milroy There's a very clear Delphi Historic Trails sign also present. The trail features Indiana's second highest railroad creek crossing, a crossing that is currently blocked off largely related to the crime and issues with private property and planned renovations. When you visit the trail, you are immediately overwhelmed with the fact that the trail is relatively close to a highway and also a property that is on the National Register of Historic Places. While I was able to make my way up to the closed area in a wheelchair, it's pretty clear that the pending renovations and lack of utilization have allowed for some wear to exist on the trail that would likely be addressed more fully if the trail was more actively utilized. We ran into an elderly area couple on the trail while out there - they acknowledged it was their first time on the trail since the killings and they shared their insights about the town's ongoing inability to use the trail. It appears this is magnified because no one has been arrested for the killings. The trail itself is mostly natural, somewhat cleared yet definitely one that requires full attention to ensure safe passage. While the bridge itself was blocked off, it is well known the railroad crossing would not be wheelchair friendly even for a pretty extreme adventure guy like myself. The trail also offers access to the Mary I. Gerrard Nature Preserve, a 6-acre nature park that is right near the end of the trail where the kilings occurred. There's also a memorial to Abby and Liberty that is still presence, a simple yet powerful reminder of the tragedy. It feels weird to "rate" the Monon High Bridge Trail "as is." Yet, it's a trail that remains open to the public and is due to be renovated and upgraded with enhanced safety features. While it remains to be seen if the public will return to the trail, one hopes that the beautiful setting will once again be visited even if it must wait until someone is held accountable for the tragedy that occurred on the trail. The trail is open dusk to dawn. The trail itself does not wind around - once you reach the end, you'll turn around and return the same way. It should be obvious, but if you choose to visit the trail do so respectfully. Delphi is a city with very little crime and the tragedy that occurred on the Monon High Bridge Trail has truly shaken its soul. Please be respectful of anyone you see and the memorial markers that continue to be present toward the end of the trail. Ultimately, the trail is best for hikers and those without mobility concerns. Those in wheelchairs and those with other gait or walking concerns may want to stick to the paved trails closer to town.

What a sweet experience at this National Historic Landmark, the Dentzel Carousel, brought to…read moreLogansport, IN in 1919! There are 43 hand-carved animals that date back to at least 1902...with several believed to be traced back to about 1885! We had a nice little tour with Ernie, who has worked at the carousel for over 50 years! We learned all about this unique and rare carousel--which is one of only 2 that remain in existence!

Absolutely fantastic! This carousel brings you back to the days when carnivals were grand and you…read moreloved being a kid. It's incredibly well maintained, and the facility is spotless. Cost is up to $1 a ride for 2019, but for a unique attraction that seemed reasonable. One really cool treat here is the chance to grab the brass ring. Definitely a must-see if you are in Central Indiana.
