This one has a pioneer village with log cabins, a museum (which was closed for a private event during my visit), and canal boat rides. The village is open to walk through and includes the Case Reed House which was moved from downtown to this site around 1986. The house was converted to a hotel for travelers after being a private residence. The canal boats are colorful and provide guided tours for those who wish to take the trip. I didn't have time to go on the ride, so I can't say how much it costs or how often the rides leave the dock. There is also a trail that runs through the park along the canal. This is a nice piece of local history from an era when Indiana thought it could be a navigable transportation area with the help of canals. Review #2792

The roads are a little confusing if some of them are one way or not. The waterfall area is quiet and pretty. They had some picnic tables. There was a staircase to view it closer and the stairs were a little sketchy. The beach area was pretty wide and we found space. They have a little snack area and a dive center. They also have an inflatable obstacle course for purchase. The restrooms were messy and smelled. The beach was clean and they had trash cans. The quarry water was clear and the water was nice. They have primitive camp sites and electrical sites. We saw that most of the electrical sites seem to have full time residents there. Overall it's a great spot to check out and relax at.

We rented the Rogers Pavilion at Highland Park for our family reunion in August. We booked it about…read morea year in advance since we have our family reunion every August, and we wanted to make sure we could get the date we needed. The pavilion was around $250 for pretty much the entire day, which I thought was a great price for the amount of time and space you get. We really like this park because there's plenty of space and lots of parking. There's also a playground directly across the street that's suitable for kids of different ages, along with a basketball court. The pavilion itself has plenty of tables and chairs, you just have to set them up yourself. There's also a small kitchen, which is very convenient, along with two gender neutral restrooms on each side of the kitchen. The only downside is that the grill provided with the pavilion is a little bit of a walk from the indoor area. There's also another covered pavilion with seating between the grill and the Rogers Pavilion. There happened to be another event going on there during our reunion. It didn't interfere with our event, but of course, having the entire area private would have been even better. I really like this pavilion and think it's a great place to host an event. There's plenty of space, lots of parking, and activities for all ages. I'd definitely consider renting it again for future family events!

Highland Park is a huge community park in Kokomo with lots of green space, recreational spaces and…read morea historic covered bridge. What I like best about the park are the mature trees that provide lots of shade. Some of the trees are over 400 years old. There is a huge colorful playground with climbing structures, swings and slides. The base is a mix of mulch and soft matting. Benches line the area for parents to sit and watch kids . (The equipment could use a good cleaning from the trees.) There are two ball diamonds with bleachers within the park. A beautiful stream that meanders through the park attracts fisherman. Tree-covered picnic areas are scattered along the creek. The Vermont Covered Bridge spans the creek and is open to pedestrian traffic. There are restroom facilities near the playground. There are several parking areas throughout the park and you can drive along the creek. Highland Park is a great place to bring the family.

My life motto is to approach everything with low expectations, and I think my expectations were very high for this animal sanctuary. That's not to say Wolf Park isn't cool. It is. The tour guides are very knowledgable and engaging, you learn a lot about wolves, there are some neat things in the gift shop, and it's nice to know that there's a sanctuary in Indiana that cares for these canine creatures. The wolves were mostly sleeping and behind fences, and we had to stand way far away from the fences, so it was difficult to see the wolves, most of the time. Mostly, it was a lot of walking and looking at the animal enclosures during the one-hour tour. But we did learn a lot about wolves and animal conservation, which was nice. There are also buffalo and fox here, but we didn't see those, either. I guess your mileage may vary depending on how active the animals are on the day that you visit. Because the tour is a lot of talking and walking and not a lot of seeing of wolves or touching things, I would say that this experience is better for adults and older kids. There was a young child in my group, and he was trying to climb the fence and then melting down by the end of the tour. Parking is in a gravel lot, but there seemed to be plenty of spaces. Campgrounds left a LOT to be desired. I stayed this past Saturday, as my dog and I were in town for…read morea dog show from out of state. I booked the spot because I needed a place to stay for the night and I stressed that a shower and toilet were essential. I was assured the bath house was nice and clean. The lady I initially spoke to was very nice. She said the rate was $35/night for primitive camping. She said they'd even throw a bundle of wood in for me. I was told I would just pay upon arrival. The day prior to leaving for my trip, I called to confirm the spot was still saved for me. I was told it was. The lady then asked if I got her text. I did not. She said she text me to let me know she was wrong on the rates and it was actually $60/night and the wood would be $20. I was upset. She called one of the owners and got approval to honor the $35 rate quoted but the wood was extra. I said ok. I clarified that I was traveling alone and would just have my dog with me. I said that I didnt want to break rules or upset anyone but would not leave my dog tied up or in car when I shower. They said it was fine and my dog could tag along as long as she stayed on a leash. All dogs on leashes. Again, I said ok. I never pet my dog off leash in unfamiliar areas. Upon arrival, I checked in. As I was standing with my dog waiting, a large black German Shepherd type approached us off leash. It came over to my 20 pound dog to say hi but my dog was frightened and trying to hide behind me. I then saw all of the hair on the big dog's neck standing straight up. I said I dont like this -- someone please get this dog NOW! So a guy did. Thankfully nothing happened but I saw the dog roaming freely again the next morning. It was obviously a dog belonging to the owners or someone working there. If it always stays up near the barn, I feel like the rule should be no unapproved dogs in the main stables/office area. Post a sign or tell people that say they are bringing dogs. That dog was obviously territorial and the situation could have turned very ugly very quickly. On to the rest of the review...... The receptionist explained how to get back to my campsite but I was confused. When asking for clarity, the man that grabbed the dog asked her if he could lead me back to my spot and she was like, "I guess." The first sites near the pond had some garbage and broken chairs nearby and I wasnt at all impressed. The guy said that the other option was by the creek. The creek was beautiful and relaxing. The grass was about a foot tall and it could have been a lot nicer if better maintained. There were some docks built around the pond and one near the creek. All of them were quite dilapidated and didnt seem safe to get on. Once it started cooling down for the eve, I went to get a shower. I opened the door to the single bathroom/shower house and it wreaked of mold. The shower was really dirty. The vanity was busted up, the toilet was beyond filthy, and there was a big piece of plywood over a giant hole in the floor. That plywood felt really soggy and was bowing under me as I stood there. I have never seen shower house conditions this bad at a campground. I pretty sure I was the only one there to camp that weekend. At first, that felt lucky for me but then I realized why nobody else was there. I didnt use the nasty bathroom at all while I was there. I opted to bathe in the creek, something I have never actually done before. That being said, this place should NOT be advertised as a suitable camping option! Further, if you're going to raise your rates to nearly double what they have been recently ($35 to $60/night), then you should absolutely make some of the necessary upgrades and maintain the campsites better. I dont write reviews often but since I relied on them to book the place and felt seriously misled by the good reviews, I decided an honest review of my experience was justified. Also, if you're going to turn horses out to pasture with their halters on, you should absolutely make sure the fencing is safe and there is nowhere they can get their halters snagged. I saw the big black mare (seal brown) with the blue halter get snagged on a very broken top rung. She started to panic when it was caught and luckily broke free from the snag after a few seconds of struggling. Basic maintenance could fix so much with this place.

They provide tables and chairs. They have restrooms inside, the women's restroom has one door but 2 toilets inside, and I believe the men's restroom was similar. This pavilion is fairly small in size, but it was just enough for our event. Outside had a couple picnic tables and a small charcoal grill. The day was nice when we had the event, so everyone could be inside or outside. Behind the pavilion, this park has 4 fenced in pickle ball courts, a basketball court, and playgrounds that are separated around the grounds. They have parking in front of the pavilion and also street parking on the sides of the park.

There are mature trees for shade and parking is not dedicated to the park, but is generally available across the street along the road. No restrooms or water are on site, but this is more of a neighborhood park than a destination. The playground does have a couple pieces outside the normal: The big red slide is old school all-metal and is quite tall. I also was surprised at the foot worn paths between the numerous statues, gazebos, the shelter, and other flower beds and trees. At first, I thought it looked like a fun place (especially when you take in the view of the railroad path to the west that includes a bright mural). But upon closer look, I could see the park could use a tasteful eye to edit what was included, maybe bring a bit of uniformity. There are lots of statues, mostly small and white, but some are bronze and some are concrete deer. It is clearly not a playground park, but I suspect it's meant to appeal to kids to create focal points throughout the park for holiday decorations. It's kind of whimsical, but not especially peaceful and relaxing. There was no sign posted for parking though I read another review that says you can park in a lot on Gano. Since there is a shelter and the gazebos, it makes me wonder if the park gets any use throughout the year or only during the holidays when decorated. I saw on the news in Indy's suburb about Kokomo's gigantic display of holiday lights. I used to…read morelive in Kokomo but never know about We Care Park; I visited We Care's home of decorated Christmas trees. So, I went while in town visiting and not knowing it has been around for many years. This event takes up about a block. There is free park in a lot on Gano road. Hooped walking paths are constructed. You can drive/ride through to see some of the displays. However, I recommend you get out (maybe without infants) during a dry and not muddy evening to see all the wonderful lights and take in the fresh air. I have a few favorite displays, but really liked the moving carousel with stuffed bears.
