Super lovely little shop that has been much needed in the neighborhood. Owner great as well - friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable.

This place is a winner! I've been in Ridgewood for a few decades now, and this is one of the few…read morestores that have been here since I moved here. The neighborhood used to have so many card/gift stores, but this is the only one left standing. The variety of things you'll find here, especially items during the holidays, is massive and unique! Right after Halloween, I got a Chucky plush doll for $17. The kind and helpful older gentleman behind the cash register was extremely helpful and was looking around the store for other Childs Play themed items for me, even though I didn't ask! Lots of collectibles, Hallmark cards, candy, and just about everything else. There are 2 other people there helping, and they were nice enough. If you use your card, there will be a fee, so bring cash if you want to avoid that. Otherwise, come here and have a great time browsing!

A broad range of Melissa & Doug items make for solid children's gifts on the classy side. (Recently, I bought a spin art set for a niece that reminded me of my favorite Times Square attraction when it was exciting, forbidden and a little dangerous. I wish I could see her parents' faces when she squirts paint on a spinning palette in the middle of their living room.) But the store also carries a line of kitschy magic items and gag gifts (think: fart-flavored chewing gum) that will amuse the kid in all of us. Their card selection is also extensive and seems to have much more personality than the average chain retailer or drugstore. By far, the coolest things I saw in the last couple of visits were the real, live, tiny frogs for sale on the front counter. Maybe the size of a grape, these amphibians were lively, cute and fascinating to watch. If our kids were older and were past the point where they might consider them a tasty snack, I would've bought them right away ... but I'm not sure if the frogs would be for me, or for them. Don't buy your cards or last-minute gifts anywhere else! This place is a treasure.

I love the Ridgewood Market!…read more This Sunday was the first time that I attended. It actually took place on Summerfield Street, which is right near my house (so I had no excuse not to attend!). So my local artisans and businesses were represented here! Not only establishments from Ridgewood (Norma's, Rudy's) but there are tons of other cool vendors from all over NYC represented here! MartiniHandmades (from whom I got an awesome terrarium and bracelet), an awesome empanada table, someone serving shrimp and grits! So many local artists, jewelry makers and thrift stores! I know that this market is awesome, because even my boyfriend, who usually does not enjoy these types of things, found several vendors, items and foods that he loved! Score! Everyone was friendly and some vendors even took credit cards! What a great way to get to meet people from your neighborhood and support local artisans! I can't wait to do all of my holiday shopping at Ridgewood Market!

I guess I'll review this since it is on here, but it is really a recurrent event rather than a…read more"place". It actually is a monthly event held at Gottscheer Hall; I stopped by the initial one in April. It is categorized on Yelp as a "flea market" at moment, but that is really a misnomer; while there were a few booths selling used goods it is predominantly an indoor arts & crafts fair, with some booths selling food products to boot. This might be a good place to check if you were buying gifts; the majority of the goods are likely more appealing to women than men from my judgement. One aspect I do appreciate is that the vendor pool seems to display a relatively diverse range of ages, ethnicities, and tastes and the same goes for the crowd perhaps due to advertising that is also locally-focused; it doesn't feel so much like some of the similar craft markets held in other boroughs, but has a less-pretentious, very neighborhoodly Queens vibe. It seems to, consciously or not, embody Ridgewood quite well rather than attempting to replicate an outside aesthetic in this old neighborhood. Hopefully it becomes even more diverse and representative of the neighborhood as the event evolves. The best part is seeing so many people at Gottscheer Hall for a public event during daytime hours, as well as being able to get eggs and other brunchtime foods they don't normally serve.

I arrived Wednesday evening to pick the prints and was told scornfully "I told you Thursday or Friday" . The man was not only wrong but very combative in his tone and language. I can understand if the prints were not made by the set pickup date but I can not understand the need to act defensively and the attempt to shift blame onto me, the paying client. The man told me I could come back Thursday and I asked if he was positive and he confirmed. He said he would text me when they were done and I left. I walked in Thursday afternoon and the man said "you're here to pick up the prints aren't you, I told you Thursday or Friday and that I would text you". He wasn't apologetic he was annoyed. I countered he confirmed they would be ready Thursday and he became even more argumentative and dismissive. Regardless of the pick up times that were argued, this is extremely poor customer service. I paid in advance for a service which was not rendered in the agreed upon timeframe and instead of being accommodating or at the least kind about it I was met with contempt and made to feel like I was an annoyance. This is inexcusable. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this place.
