When you walk into the school, the principal and office staff are standing in the lobby greeting parents and children as they enter. All the teachers are standing at their door with a student leader to great each child with a verbal welcome and a handshake before entering the room. They start the kids day by treating them as little adults, empowering them to behave as such. The school goals and standards are posted everywhere, along with how they are doing in regard to those goals and standards. They set high standards of their teaches and the kids as well. They focus on the 7 Habits of Highly Successful People written, coached and practiced in ways that the kids understand. This is the back bone of their approach to education and it works. The principal is loved by the kids and he loves them. I think his leadership of the school is what has made them so successful.

Maybe I started him early...... anyways I don't regret my decision and he misses his first school! Now he's enrolled in public school (which honestly is not great since he's learning things that he has learned two years ago) but he's learning Portuguese for free (my native language) and for my family this is our priority. My children are making great progress. previous to going to Timp Academy we went to a private school, which was known for being academically rigorous 1-2 grade levels above. Timp Academy is providing results beyond their private school. So far all of the teachers have been wonderful. Be prepared to give your children some assistance with homework.

Our son went to Art City Elementary when we moved to the area, and we were put on the waiting list…read morefor the local charter school. We liked the school, but assumed the charter school would be better. We accepted when our name came up on the waiting list. My son was assigned quite a bit of home work at the charter school for a first grader. And they were completely inattentive to his IEP where he needed help with his stutter, never getting into group therapy. He wasn't happy there, so we returned to Art City Elementary for second grade with Ms. Roylance. We mentioned his need for assistance with his stutter, and within two weeks, he was attended to and has one-on-one time with a speech therapist. The ladies in the front office know my kid by name and my voice on the phone--and I'm not heavily involved, I'll admit. I'm not on PTA. I just had a baby, I'm not in the school all the time. I'm so impressed with this school. My son is very happy and safe there.

Growing up in southern California, I loved the diversity around me, and felt that the many different life experiences and perspectives were helpful for me. We have found that American Heritage teachers are very intentional about providing opportunities to the students to experience diverse life experiences and beliefs, while maintaining faithfulness to LDS perspectives.

It has been great to see the heroes my three children learn about in the classroom. Heroes that look like them, Black African Americans. In addition the yearly Black History Month assemblies that my family has been able to take part in several times is a favorite for us.
