Dr. Tina Ghotanian is truly an exceptional dentist. She was able to remove my old broken implant crown when multiple other doctors couldn't, and that alone earned my trust. The work she did on my other implant crown was so well done that I came back to her again without hesitation. I've never had a bad experience with her--she's incredibly skilled, patient, and genuinely cares about her patients. You can tell she never wants anyone to leave unhappy, and that level of care makes all the difference. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a dentist who is both talented and compassionate. ZERO stars if I could--this place is a scam! My teeth are healthy and I only needed a deep cleaning, but they tried to upsell me "antibiotics" for $700 even "after a discount" and then pushed $300 worth of unnecessary meds. When I refused, the dentist wouldn't even do the cleaning. My insurance later confirmed their recommendations were not clinically appropriate. Absolutely shameful. My daughter and I have now been seeing Dr. Ghotanian at her Pasadena office for 3 years. It's hard to find a dentist that works for both adults and teens but at this point, we have found ours! Dr. Tina is always personable and punctual. She takes amazing care of us, as does her support staff. As with any medical facility, the worry of additional or unnecessary treatment is always a concern. Dr. Tina is not one of those providers. She explains everything thoroughly and comes up with a plan to make sure the best steps are being taken for you. Her office staff is also kind, helpful, and great at working with you as far as scheduling that fits your needs. The office itself is always clean and fresh. DO NOT start as a new patient. The office cannot book a first visit and a cleaning on the same day and time. You can to go twice, first for a checkup with the dentist and then come back another day for the cleaning. After your cleaning, you cannot book an appointment for the next cleaning in 6 months. Susie in Pasadena says you can to call back 2 months before the time you want an appointment to book the appointment. My last cleaning was in April 2023 so I called in August to book an October appointment. Susie wanted to schedule me for Sep but Delta Dental will only cover 6 month cleanings twice a year. Then I was told the next appointment is in November. Each time before my appointment I get txt msgs to confirm my appointment. I received txts on Nov1 and Nov2 for my Nov6 appointment. I confirmed my appt with both txt msgs. Then at 4pm Susie calls and said I am not on their "monthly roster" from Delta Dental and cancelled my appointment. I logged into Delta Dental and it shows I am assigned to the office of Dr. Ghotanian. Susie refused to check even after I emailed her screenshots from Delta Dental website showing I am assigned to her office. DO NOT use this office if you want a caring dental health practitioner. It is really like "pulling teeth" to get your appointment. Susie is rude and sounds like she is doing you a favor when you are the customer. read more

I'm guessing they are just swamped because of the Covid backlog, but the office staff and even the techs were not very friendly. I was able to get the treatment I needed but I'll be finding a new dentist for ongoing cleanings. It felt like they were flying by the seat of their pants and they asked for payment twice. My husband and I have been coming here for many years, and we both like Tina a lot. She's pro at what she does; kind of a badass no thrills kinda gal. I guess I can understand the negative reviews - the dentist office is always a jittery place, especially with a Dr that won't pamper and hold your hand, along with a staff having to do one on one awkward talks about money, insurance and worst case scenario conversations. All that aside, Tina def knows what she's doing, she'll always try to do the minimum amount of work she can (this true, have had this proven over and over in the last few years), and she won't sweet talk ya. This dentist is my least recommendation. They just want to pull money from your pocket. They even don't treat their patient with respect. On my first visit, they were behind about 1 hour without any explanation or apology. The dentist at last I met glanced my x-rays and asserted that my teeth needed inlays then she left immediately. It was only for two minutes meeting her after one hour wait. She even did not ask me to open my mouth and didn't even try to look at my teeth. Then the receptionist came whose attitude toward me was with contempt somehow from the beginning. She explained that the inlays needed for my teeth cost $3000 out of my pocket because those are not covered by my current insurance. She was a such rude and unpleasant person. English is not my native language, when I asked her a simple question, she grimaced and said, 'What?' In very rude manner. She started yell me, "Your insurance has only minimum coverage. It doesn't pay well at all!." There was no explanation given as to what I could do with my insurance. Before I left, I tried to book for cleaning that was covered by my insurance plan but she gave me a date that was almost a month ahead. And she said there were no other openings for me. Don't go there. I didn't even get to see Dr Tina for 2 mins. The staff there only want to get money from your pocket. Have to go there two time for separate x-ray and cleaning. The dentist said my teeth needs deep cleaning which cost 170 for 1/4 teeth, I bought it, and she continues to sell the laser cleaning for gums(800+ for half part), which I don't think is necessary, I have pretty good teeth, all the additional procedures are not covered by my current insurance. When I refused to proceed, they made me sit there and wait about 20 mins without finishing my current clearing process, with all the blood in my mouth. Don't recommend it! read more

I'm leaving a second yelp review since I just saw her and her staff earlier today for a cleaning, and x-ray and it was once again, the best, most comfortable, most trustworthy, and reasonably priced dentist experience I've ever had. Prior, I've always had anxiety going into the dentist and spent years looking for one I felt I could trust. I'm so glad to have been recommended to Dr. Ghotanian. She and her staff always do such a thorough job, whether its a cleaning, x-ray, or a cavity I needed filled one time. I want to say this place seems to be sketchy. They want to have you come in twice for the routine 6-month preventive care type of work-up (instead of taking care of it in just one visit). I had never heard of this before. They say "Just the first time, after that it will be done all in one visit." They tell you your dental needs are "difficult" and want to request records from previous dentist, want to do "deep cleaning" when usually I don't need this. Also the dentist ran late, seemed rushed once she got there, they rescheduled twice, and though a clean office and not overly rude staff; its not a place I would recommend. Wish I had read previous reviews before going to her and wasted time. Chose her randomly from a list in my HR office at work of in-network doctors. I know she has two officers and maybe she's better at the other one, but not great at the Pasadena location. read more

I'm relatively new to Dr. Ghotanians practice and have had positive experiences, I was recently diagnosed with the need for a bridge or an implant. I chose bridge because it was a much less expensive alternative, although at $2,855 it still wasn't covered by my insurance. Their was a less expensive third alternative that was covered by my insurance that was never discussed. As it is, the temporary crown that was placed failed after two days. My permanent bridge will be ready in about 11 days. I'm hoping Dr. Ghotantian gives me a refund for a temporary crown that only lasted 2 days. I'll keep you posted. read more

What other unhappy reviews say is true. I went to Dr Ghotanian with mild uncomfortability and she did an inlay. Two years after they informed me were was a cavity formed around it so she replaced it. I was surprised it only lasted 2 years, which was exactly the amount of time my insurance would be ok to pay for the restoration of the same tooth again, but I thought things happened. They replaced it. A year after they said the cavity is forming on the neightboring tooth and it needs root canal. This one I didn't buy, because I'm very sensitive with my teeth and I would feel the problem on such a scale. I went to a different dentist and he said: "what root canal? It's just a tiny filling." 5 years after I only have the tiny filling there. And the inlay she put was so bad that it had to be replaced with a crown. It's not it. When I came to Dr Ghotanian I had a couple of root canals but no crowns. So she said we need crown and I agreed. She did one of them. Three month after I felt something weird in my mouth. Next thing I saw a tooth on my plate. I was so scared! Next day I had a plane to Europe. It was 11pm. I called the emergency number. She dropped the call. I texted and called again. She dropped the call. Next morning I came to the office. She said: It's ok! You felt uncomfortable with this crown and I didn't glue it properly. Would you like me to glue it now?" This is not ok. The doctor should inform the patient about such things. So I left. Never been back. There are much better and more honest doctors in Pasadena. Don't come to Dr Ghotanian. read more

I'm paranoid about dentists. I really am. Ever since childhood, I would dread the day of my teeth cleaning appointment. I hate the handscaling of the teeth and gum area; the high pitched, painful scraping of the teeth that makes my gums bleed. Just sitting in the waiting room or in a dentist chair makes me sweat, pant, and stutter words of denial. I am a total wreck. However, after a few visits, I am relieved that I found the right dentist, Dr. Tina Ghotanian. She and her staff were friendly and understanding of my fears. They used current technology, such as ultrasonic cleaning tools, to clean my teeth quickly with minimal discomfort and pain. DO NOT GO HERE. This dental office is out to get your money. After getting an x-ray they told me that I had a cavity so big that I needed a dental Onlay. They said my insurance would only cover a silver filing, which would be very noticeable. BUT, they would give me a "special" discount on the Onlay and I could get it for $900! I skeptical because I did not even have toothache. For as big a cavity as they said I had I thought I'd feel something. I asked for a copy of my X-rays and decided to get a second opinion. I saw a second dentist, showed him the X-ray's AND he took his own X-rays AND checked my teeth. CONCLUSION: I DO NOT HAVE ANY CAVITIES. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY TEETH. Which means: The staff at Dr. Ghotanian's office was going to DRILL OUT AND REPLACE A PERFECTLY HEALTHY TOOTH TO GET $$$$. read more

First let me start off by saying that everyone at this office was really polite to me. I seen them with other patients and they were very kind to them as well, especially children. That being said they gave me a treatment plan with prices that were extremely high. In the treatment plan there was a column that stated patient copay ( which was a reasonable amount) then right next to it a column that said "UCR fees" which were additional fees that they couldn't really explain to me. Those fees were added on to my copay making my out of pocket price really high. I sent the same treatment plan to another dentist and these were the comparisons they gave : Root canal on should be $65 not $120 molar Root canal should be $95 not $150 crowns should be $325 not $430 this was for my HMO insurance. I signed up with this dentist through my insurance carrier. After arriving at the office, I complete the standard intake forms and modified them as necessary, i.e. when accepting responsibility for charges not covered by insurance inserting the word "authorized" before "charges" etc. Next, I am called into the examination room and directed to sit on the patient chair. Although my insurance covers the costs of full x-rays, staff told me that I was getting partial x-rays taken and that I would need to obtain the full x-rays from my prior dentist. At this point, I smelled a scam. Next, the dentist walked into the examination room, leaned me back on the patient chair and began to poke my gum with one of those picks. I was told that I have no cavities, which I already knew from my previous dental exam. Then, the scam that I was waiting for spewed from the dentist's mouth: "You need a deep cleaning and it will cost around $300 out of pocket." I nodded my head and said I would just like a regular cleaning. The dentist got up, walked out, and had her assistant tell me that the dentist will only perform a deep cleaning and told me to get my old x-rays from my previous dentist. In short, I wasted my lunch hour completing intake forms, having partial x-rays taken, having my gums poked, and entertaining a failed scam for a deep cleaning. I can't really rate the dentist as I never got past the rude staff to see her. I went in (made an appointment) for a partially lost filling. This was my first time at this office - they were on my insurance plan, and I had them listed as my preferred dentist of choice so they could give me an appointment. After the usual wait, I go in, have x-rays taken. them -The nerve is too close to the surface and any drilling would require a root canal. -I say fine, do a root canal. them -The tooth is too far back for us to do that here, need to go somewhere else. Here's a referral to see X. - I say X is all the way ion Burbank, don't have some close to recommend Them - We're too busy now, I'll have to check tomorrow morning, but I can't promise anything. - What do I do then in the meantime? them - go to CVS and get dental putty and put it on your tooth where the filling fell off!! They have a passive aggressive, if not argumentative teenage girl as a receptionist who also displays poor attention to detail in making appointments. For example, recently I showed up for an appointment only to be told that it was scheduled for another day a couple weeks down the road. This was obviously wrong as I recalled the conversation verbatim and pointed out the fact that I was told that this specific date was the last opportunity to be seen that month. Thus, I took off work early to accommodate. Other workers are fine, although my experience has entailed conflicting reports as to what needed to be done. For example, at my last appointment I had x-rays taken and was told that everything looked OK except for 1 tooth which needed to be closely monitored. Curiously, I got a call later that day with a message saying that I needed several fillings and they were requesting I call back to make an appointment. I did call back and I even changed insurance companies to get better coverage so they could do the work how they wanted to do it. Yet, after calling several times to schedule an appointment, and leaving multiple messages, my calls still had not been returned 3 weeks later. After a 5th call, and subsequent message, I was FINALLY called back only to be told by the receptionist that "I believe I did call". Um... really? How about those available appointment times? I HAD been going there for a couple years to get my teeth cleaned and such. But... nothing like awkward interactions and defensiveness to make you go somewhere else to get your dental work done. read more

I really wanted to love this place. I loved my old dentist before I moved to CA. However, their lack of operations efficiency and professionalism does leave something to be desired. I agree with the other poster that complained about not being able to get the xrays and cleaning done on the same day. But, perhaps that is only for new patients. Perhaps the next time I need xrays and a cleaning since they already have my prior records, they will be able to accommodate a same day service. I'm was willing to give it a try. That being I said I had a mostly pleasant two visits. The front desk people were too busy chatting with other staff to assist me right away. It really is frustrating when you take time off work to go in and instead of being taken care of right away you are forced to listen to staff talking about their personal lives. But, after that everyone else that I encountered was very pleasant. The girl who did my xrays tried to convince me I needed a deep cleaning. I had been told by a dentist friend that very few people actually need deep cleanings. So, I resisted. The dentist/hygienist took a look at my teeth and said I did not. After hunting for reviews of all plan doctors in the Pasadena area, I can across a review for Dr. Ghotanian's practice and by some miracle they all seemed stellar. And they were right. All I did was xrays and a cleaning, but the staff was friendly, punctual, the place looked clean, modern, and the cleaning was one of the best I have had in years! I went through 3 different dentists before I came in to see Dr. Ghotanian. When I called her office staff was nice and they were able to get me in pretty soon. Her office is located close to my home and there is a small but decent parking lot. When I went in the waiting room has a lot of room which I appreciated since the last office I went to felt like a sardine can. Now to Dr. Ghotanian. She was friendly, and professional. I also felt she spent a good amount of time with me and answered my questions. I also went in for a cleaning today and this was the best cleaning I've had. It was thorough but not painful. IDK why hygienists think they need to hurt you to get your teeth clean. Also, her office is really clean. And they have cable! Dr. Ghotanian also recommended me to Dr. Lim for braces and he is amazing. So I am also happy with her for that. Dr. Ghotanian is my new dentist and I am so happy she is. I had been with my previous dentist for over 20 years but had to change when I changed insurance companies. I was very apprehensive about having to find a new dentist but I can now say I am very pleased I am one of Dr. Ghotanian's patients. She knows what she is doing, she is gentle, she caught a problem before it became urgent. Her Pasadena office is very clean and her staff is very nice. Highly recommend. Don't know other's experiences but having Delta insurance really helps cut down costs. Despite having read other negative reviews, I gave this dentist a chance because she took my HMO insurance and has a convenient location for me and my family. BAD choice on my part! Its true what others say that its common practice for their office to split the first appointment into two. Unheard of at most other dentist offices where you get your typical routine 6-month oral exam, X-rays, and cleaning all at once. They also charged me for what is considered preventive care when they shouldn't have according to my insurance. I called the office to clarify that and Susie was no help. I have since left this dentist and went somewhere else where I was much happier with the service & didn't get charged for the preventive care. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Tina for over a decade. She and her staff have consistently provided high quality care over all of these years. I appreciate that Dr. Tina provides her honest assessment of how to approach an issue, and doesn't immediately jump to the most extreme and expensive option. Tina seemed like a nice and honest businesswoman. Her staff were good with handling my insurance and were able to schedule me in as a new customer within a couple weeks. My only concern (as mentioned in other reviews) is that her office requires two separate visits for new clients, one for a quick X-ray and inspection by Tina (maybe 2 minutes of her time, tops) and the other for your normal cleaning. Both visits were covered by my insurance and frankly if it helps pay for her staff and rent, it was only a very minor inconvenience for me since my office was 5 minutes walking distance from the El Molino location. My only gripe is the seeming lack of attention to detail. Otherwise, her dental assistants were kind, the receptionists were helpful and flexible and Tina seemed like a honest professional. I applaud her for taking the cheaper dental insurances and providing value to her customers, I just wish we could get a little more attention for our time. read more

This place is sketchiest dental office ever. When I arrived for my first cleaning, they got about 5 minutes into it and then stopped, recommending a $500 deep cleaning, which I refused. They then insisted that I was in dire need of porcelain caps, which - surprise, surprise - totaled about $2000. Since I was a sucker and still trusted them at this point, I got one of the caps. Cap came off a week later. Had to pay for parking to get it replaced (at least compensate me for that if you're going to screw up). I returned there THREE times because they kept screwing up the caps until I finally gave up. I was charged "check-up" fees every time I had to return. They also charged me for the initial aborted cleaning (the 5 minute one where she literally just looked in my mouth). Thanks to my new dentist, who informed me I didn't need any of this crap, I am now poorer and wiser. Take heed from my mistakes and return not to this den of thieves. read more

I went to this dentist and I have to totally agree with the previous review. One time I went in for a cleaning and he refused to do a cleaning until I "fixed the other problem" in which was not bothering and I did not care for. I didn't return for a good while. I then went back because another problem arose (not the one he mention previous that one is still fine) as hesitant I was to go back I did. I figured I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. Well he so called "diagnosed " me and told me I need a certain procedure. MInd you he went back and forth like 3-4 times to look at my x-ray to figure out the "problem." Point is when he told me the cost I almost jumped out of the building. As much as I was being pressured I still refused to proceed with it I knew something was off. I went to another dentist and guess what Dr. Ghotanian "diagnosed" was not needed. Instead only a small procedure had to be done that is only going to cost me in the $100's vs $1000's. Yes 1000's PLURAL. Like multiply that by like 8. No I am not exaggerating. Be careful his staff seems to pressure you as much as he does to get the work done. I don't usually write reviews such as these but we all work hard for our money and we go with the intention that the Dr's will take care of us not rip us off. So yes I'm very angry. I really wanted to like this dentist, but each time I go the receptionist staff is almost aggressive with me and they are not friendly. In addation, each time I go in they find something that is not covered by my insurance and want me to always pay cash. And lastly, I think they want to do good work but the office is so unprofessional and they always assume they are right and kind of bully you into things you don't need or want. Additionally, I think a lot of people have a hard time saying no or intimidated and this business doesn't care if you stay or leave - they feel like they can get another sucker some other time. Oh and if you say not to the deep cleaning of your teeth, which - my uncle is a dentist and looked at my teeth and said there is NO WAY I needed a deep cleaning - they will drop you from the plan and you have to find another dentist. The staff is very professional and kind. Every time a procedure is recommended it comes with a thorough explanation from Dr. Tina herself. I just had a deep cleaning today and the person who did it was pleasant and caring. She was always asking how I was doing. They recommended I get something additional but didn't pressure me into getting it. So different than the last dentist I visited. I just wish I could book a cleaning 6 months in advance due to my hectic schedule, but that is not allowed and to their credit they do send email reminders. This office is somewhat different from the office I'm accustomed to. Typically when making an appointment for a cleaning it involves x-rays and a cleaning. The set up involves two appointments to get a cleaning. The first appointment is for x-rays, then a second appointment is scheduled for the actual cleaning. It just seems like a waste of time and patients should be informed of this in advance. When I went in for my first appointment the dental assistant took my x-rays then informed me I would have to return for my cleaning. I was shocked, so the girl at the front desk was sent in to tell me she told me this over the phone--this never happened. I went back for my second appointment. My cleaning was alright. The assistant and the hygienist were both very nice and professional. I did find it odd that the hygienist didn't even bother with flossing my teeth after my cleaning. But, well, I guess that's partly why I'm giving this experience three stars. read more

First impressions are so important. I needed a last minute appointment with a new doctor because of a cracked tooth and as with most of these experiences, I was expecting the worst. Most places make you jump through hoops when changing facilities and make you wait weeks before being seen. Fortunately, Dr. Ghotanian and her team have their act together. They gave me an appointment within the hour, did x-rays, and referred me to an oral surgeon (who is in the same building). The new dentist... I don't remember his name is a looker! He's quite gentle also. Every dentist that I've been to has been rough with my mouth and I would leave with cuts around my lips.
