HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I hope you all get a driver self-nicknamed "Short"…read more We booked a Pearl Harbor tour which included a visit to the Dole pineapple gift shop as well as a drive around the island (with a few stops and drivebys). Our driver nicknamed "Short" was a great driver as well as a native who knew the island and all it's customs, history, and it's little fun facts and quirks. Short is also a life philosopher. I won't spoil it should you get him, but he has a good way of keeping things light hearted but really makes you think about why the world and it's constant feuding is the way it is. The trip started sharply at 8AM (hotel lobby pickup) and after picking up a few passengers at different hotels, we were off. The Pearl Harbor tour and the ride over was excellent. While I knew a lot of what he was narrating, he goes into the back story of why Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. Much different than what you probably learned in history class. Nothing excuses the Japanese military government for doing what they did and he's not an apologist for them, but he laid out the facts leading up to it. Very informative. The movie at the Pearl Harbor center was well done by the Park Service, but we didn't have much time to look around much after that as we needed to keep to schedule. A few passengers were a full 30 minutes late, but he didn't give them the riot act but instead gently and jokingly chided them a little. It was pretty funny! The Dole pineapple gift shop stop was all about buying stuff, so if you've done it you'll be bored. But for first timers, get the Pineapple Freeze at the back of the store. We stopped by three parks and beaches which included the North Shore, a park whose name I forget, and Hanauma Bay. We highly recommend PPF. Just remember as part of a tour, be courteous and be on time. Write it down, put it in your phone, whatever it takes to keep everyone on the tour on track!

As first-time snorkelers traveling with a child, our experience did not align with those expectations. Equipment distribution was poorly handled. Masks were handed out with little to no instruction, and basic questions were met with a rude and dismissive attitude. Overall communication and service were lacking. Once in the water, guidance was minimal and inconsistent. The experience felt rushed and disorganized, with limited support for guests who were new to snorkeling. The tone and treatment we received also made us uncomfortable as Asian guests. After sharing feedback, the company clarified in writing that they do NOT advertise or position this as a beginner-friendly snorkeling tour. Based on both that clarification and our experience, I would strongly recommend that beginners or families looking for clear instruction and attentive guidance consider other operators. Sharing this to help future guests set accurate expectations before booking.

We love seeing and snorkeling near turtles in Hawaii and for an upcoming trip to Oahu we weren't…read moresure we were going to be able to see them. I read about the excursions off Waikiki that all but promised seeing Honu. I did some research and chose to book with Captain Max Boat Tours and their Turtle Canyon Snorkel. I read reviews and what really attracted me to this outfitter was the fact they ran semi-private boat tours with only 6 guests. Correspondence (email) leading up to the excursion was clear and helpful. We arrived a few minutes early and visited their small shop while checking in. We waited just a few minutes and then were walked over to their boat dock, meeting both the guide, Sophia and the boat captain, Stephanie. They gave us safety information and prepared us for the short boat ride out to "Turtle Canyon". Our craft was a zodiac type inflatable raft with a mounted seats and a windscreen for the captain. We glided out to the snorkel zone with Waikiki beach before us, a grand ocean view of this famous beach. Sophie helped the other guests get their snorkel gear (included in the price) except for us - we bring our own snorkel equipment. We put in the water and after all guests were in, Sophia called in the direction she was leading us. On the way over we swam through schools of fish. This was an awesome experience we did not expect - we snorkel a lot and love seeing the marine life. We learned that some outfitters feed the fish out here and so they stick around instead of swim away, which we're used to experiencing. In about 20 feet of water our guide pointed out several turtles on the bottom. Lucky for us, one of them swap up for air - and stayed near the and stayed near the surface for quite a few minutes (longer than we usually see) which allowed us to get a great view of this beautiful creature (all the while, maintaining a safe distance to protect the turtle). Sophia led us to two other spots nearby, seeing fish on the reef below and several more turtles. Once again we were fortunate to have another turtle swim up to the surface for a few breaths. I'm very glad we chose Captain Max as some of the other outfitters that bring larger groups would have been a very different experience with a group clamoring for views of the few turtles that were out there. Our guide was knowledgeable, approachable, and friendly - and ensured we were all safe (and the marine life were also protected). On our way back to shore we were treated to another great view of Oahu, with Waikiki and Honolulu in the foreground and the mountains behind. Thanks Sophie and Captain Stephanie for a memorable excursion! NOTE: We know that early in the morning is generally the best time to snorkel as the water tends to be calmer, visibility better and fish ore active. We had a 930 start but next time would be the early time (730) as I learned there are even fewer other outfitters out on the water at that time.

I wanted so badly to support a small business during COVID but wow this was a level of unprofessionalism I have never experienced. My boyfriend and I have been trying to rent one board since Sunday and today it is Friday and we have STILL been unable to confirm our rental. I called Sunday and received a text in response to my call. They told me to text at this number for questions and reservations. I have been trying to set up my reservation ever since via text but the responses have been little to none. On Wednesday my boyfriend even e-mailed them, but it's been two days and still no response. Their main phone number just goes to voicemail, so then we tried to call the phone number we had been texting but someone answered saying "you have the wrong person", even though hours later they would respond to my text with the same number. We were really excited to stand up paddle board this week but now we won't be doing it anymore. I'm very disappointed. The communication was seriously the most unprofessional I've ever experienced. All I wanted was to rent one board. I don't know why they're not interested in doing so, or it's fine if they are not able to but they should have communicated that to me instead of leaving me on read on and off for the last 5 days.

We were traveling with older family members as well as my young daughter, and somehow, RJ managed to connect with everyone--from our 7-year-old to our 70-year-old mother-in-law. Everyone absolutely loved him! This was, hands down, the best money we spent while visiting Waikiki. Thank you, RJ, for making our first visit to Hawaii truly unforgettable--you are a true gem! While we did eventually receive a refund, we were still stiffed of our planned Christmas luau experience for my 7 year old through seemingly bad inventory management and travel arrangement by the company, well too late to make alternative arrangements.

The only downside is the popularity of this local snorkel, with many optional fun add ons, is the number of people on board. Tip: if you line up to board early, you get the opportunity to claim your cruising spot. I was with a family with kids from the mainland and our goal was to grab seating on the forward deck outside for the best Capt view during our cruise. My awesome wife also staked out a seat inside the cabin where the snack bar & restrooms are, to stash our beach bag & lunch cooler filled with our own beverages. Note: They have water and instant iced lemon tea with cups available. Also sweet & salty snack bars for all inside the main covered cabin. I enjoyed the boat ride! We were not disappointed with several distant but exciting whale blows, surfacing & whale tail waves along the way. The view of Wikiki and Diamond head was worth my price of admission. Note: You can book on line and select from 3 options; Boat ride observer only, Ride & Snorkel, Deluxe all inclusive ticket to participate in all the fun extra activities besides snorkel. Stand up paddle board, kayak, water slide and trampoline. I bought the snorkel that also allows you to jump off the upper deck if you so desire. I ultimately sat back and enjoyed watching everyone have fun. You can also buy a Groupon for this type of event. You'll enjoy their hospitality but be prepared to experience that tourist crowd kind of atmosphere. Four Fun Stars for a get what you pay for tourist-style adventure!
