They saved by beloved Frye boots for HALF the price of another local shoe repair shop. NOW, color me impressed, slap those newly suited boots on me and call me happy!
Hoxton Shoe Repairs -- it's over. They quoted me 100 quid to repair the boots, which would require resoling/heeling and some rebuffing to get them to their former shine. 100 quid!? And pay it up front before the work is done? WTF!? (and to be honest they've screwed up a few pairs before so I wasn't keen to pay them beforehand). I knew that couldn't be right and honestly I could just nearly buy a new pair for that price, so it seemed crazy. So with a wasted trip and disappointment, I weighed my options and did some more research. Second opinion come hither!
I called around and reached Timpson in the City -- who assured me they could likely do it for much less but would need to see the boots to be sure. Now I can tell you they were very beat up from a year of walking the brutal London streets (and I'm hard on shoes in general) -- so I wasn't sure they were salvageable, but off I went to see.
And....
£44! My boots look good as new and were done in 5 days -- for £44. Resoled, reheeled, buffed, shined and looking pretty damn good. This is about the price that can be justified for restoring some very nice quality boots to their former glory, I would guess it gets me at least another 1-2 years of good wear out of them, which is great.
Highly recommended! It's going to be my new shoe repair shop -- Hoxton Shoe Repairs, I've given you a few chances and I am just done. Timpson, you're in! read more
