This is one of those little shops that takes you right back to your childhood. The sound of the machines, the smell of shoe polish, the racks of keys on the wall etc... it's like stepping back in time 50 years.
Peter, the proprietor, is a very cheery soul who has run it for over 30 years, and likes nothing better than a good blether. He's from the Western Isles so perhaps that explains it.
There's very little shoe-related problems that he can't fix, and if it's only a small thing he's as likely not to charge you anything. The standard of work is pretty good, and if anything goes wrong they will happily put it right for you.
They also cut keys of course, house keys, car keys (even those new-fangled RF ones) - you name it, he'll probably have a key for it.
A new and very useful service that they have, is to replace cracked phone screens, although I imagine they might have to send those away to be done? Still, it's nice to see that being offered.
Small operations like this place are getting harder to find in this day and age, so I applaud him for keeping it going. Long may it continue. read more
