Classis French bistro style ambiance with a nice casual feel and mixed menu…read more This was our first stop after arriving in London from an overseas flight. We were able to grab a reservation for an early dinner the same day. They had the front door/windows open so it feels as if you're dining al fresco, but still inside the restaurant. I was hungry and ordered the steak and fries. The steak came with a pat of herb butter. You can only choose med-rare or well-done. So of course, it was med-rare for me. It was delicious with fantastic flavor, enhanced with the melting herb butter. The fries were crisp and delicious. I don't know what type of sauce came with my steak on the side, but I ended up dipping my fries in them, and it made it a different experience. Thankfully I had room for dessert, so my wife and I split the Birthday Dessert Box. No it wasn't anyone's birthday, but the menu describes this as a golden chocolate orb with vanilla ice cream, honeycomb, chocolate strands, freeze-dried raspberries, gold flakes (didn't notice these), and the server pours hot salted caramel sauce on top when it arrives. This was divine! What a great way to end a fantastic dinner.

However, the young lady who has been the hostess of late has people skills that are almost repellent, at least so far as they have applied to me. Last night, a special night to celebrate the upcoming nuptials of one of my best friends, was marred by her giving us a crap table. When I asked for something a bit better and indicating that in my booking I had requested a booth, she responded snootily that booths are kept available for walk-in VIP's. If I owned the place, I would have fired her on the spot for making a remark like that. So, for those of you who are not VIP's, and I expect a few of you might not be, be prepared to sit where you're relegated and not where you'd prefer.

Service was on-point, the staff were attentive and friendly despite the absolutely full dining room and bar. The only negative was that it was noisy, but that also added to the ambiance Prices were reasonable for London, very good value for the excellent quality fare. Would definitely go back again.

We probably were the last customers for the evening as they close at midnight as were were walking out. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Started with the escargot appetizer, delicious with great flavor of butter and what seemed to be a basil/pesto paste. The bread that came along really hot the spot. I probably could have gone without entree as I felt stuffed after the escargot and bread helpings. Sea bass was a great light entree choice after the appetizer. Served on a bed of broccoli it was seared well on the skin side. The rest of the party had the breaded veal which was a great choice as well. The dessert could feed an entire table, chocolate mousse dessert was delicious and very large portion for the table... definitely a place that you can count on a solid great French meal.

It's going out out without groovy word benders on scooters bouncing you off the pavements of Shoreditch. It's going out out without also taking a mortgage out out to pay for your Mayfair meal. Sam's Riverside Is your ticket to go out out in Hammersmith, and before you tell me to do one, take a moment to read on. Sam's resides on the river. Now this isn't 'on the river' like their famous neighbour The River Cafe. You really are on the river here, right by the beautiful old suspension bridge that divides the bustling Hammersmith Broadway from leafy Mortlake. It's romantic and picturesque. If Turner was alive he'd have a window seat and he'd be busily slapping oil on canvas. Although if he stopped to survey inside he might phone his mate Toulouse Lautrec because this place has all the glamour, pizazz and energy he captured so brilliantly. For all its gold trim, velvet banquette seating and statement lighting the place retains a relaxed, friendly air and a hell of a buzz. Maitre d' Sam isn't here to greet us tonight - 10% off the final bill please - but his philosophy of genuine hospitality is evident wherever you turn. Well spaced tables, friendly staff who make you feel at home and a brasserie menu that pushes you without sending you over the edge. When restauranting is in the blood, this is what you get. Are there artists in the kitchen? The best thing a chef can do with fresh shellfish is not much at all and they duly oblige. Plump oysters served on ice slip down very nicely. Shellfish is obviously a thing here and it adds to the luxurious feel. Diners tuck into fruits de mer with aplomb. White shirts ruined, but boy that prawn head needed to come off quick so he could devour the sweet meat below. Oysters need a bed so we order some Parmesan churros. Melt in the mouth unctuousness each stick. Fluffy delights. Delicious, dangerous stuff. One starter to share after that. Scallops, again with little done to them but a burnish on each side, accompanied with a seaweed beurre blanc and artichoke. A wonderful combination well put together. A good example of lifting the menu above normal brasserie fare. I ordered the aptly named brill as a main. A whole fish served with braised endive. Showstopper. The better half went for chicken, mushroom and broccoli. No surprises there. Just great ingredients very well executed. No room for pudding. Puddings bore me anyway. Much more interested in people watching over another bottle of too easily quaffable house white. A couple of familiar faces in tonight. Maybe they've been filming at the Riverside Studios which is part of this complex and adds to the razzmatazz. There is an air of elegance to everything here. The menu, the room, the view. Even we feel elegant here and I spilled brill sauce down my front and the missus has broccoli in her teeth. Nobody cares. They're all having a whale of a time. We're all out out and we may be here some time.

This makes it very convenient to stop at for a drink or supper after a day exploring London. So that's what we did! We were greeted and seated as soon as we entered. The staff was friendly and attentive. They had no problem letting us order on seperate checks. They have a full bar, and a good selection of wines and beers. The decor was modern, clean and comfortable. The menu was a little limited, but had a good mix of items and our party had no problem finding something to fit our tastes. I had a very good Romanian Syrah -£6.45/250cl pour, to wash down a delicious half rack of pork ribs that fell off the bones. They came with a nice side salad and a healthy portion of fries -~£14. My wife enjoyed her salmon and advocado as well. Our friend reported no complaints with her chicken breast sandwich. The place has a row of tables on the sidewalk, but we ate inside to avoid the smokers. All in all, a very convenient and pleasant place.
