In my mid-20's, I decided to buy a guitar and learn to play. Eric is the best teacher someone could…read moreask for. He is non-judgy and inclusive to all ages, and never makes me feel like I am too old to be there. He is flexible to your schedule and is easily reachable via phone or text. You can do either 30 minute or 1 hr lessons on a weekly, scheduled basis. Eric is enormously talented yet very patient with his students. He runs his lessons from his home, but the parking is easy, and located in the very safe area near Edgewater Park in Lakewood. While he's classically trained, Eric's personal love of music shines in his work, and he can teach you to play nearly any song you want to learn. God bless him for entertaining my desire to learn a Goo Goo Dolls song that's taking me a longgg time to master. Eric is the guy to see for guitar or bass lessons in the Cleveland area-- whether you are a beginner or an expert just looking to jam with a cool person.

He's a hell of a guitar player, very good at explaining the theory side of things (he's the king of analogies), and a great sense of humor. With so much experience, a great rate and a comfortable lesson environment, what more could you really need or want? Check Eric out!

He up-charged me when the work was finished from what he advertised on his site by $20. He also damaged the finish on my 10K plus guitar. I emailed him asking for a refund before posting this... and received no reply. Go somewhere else.

    Wild Dutch's Guitar Hospital

    Wild Dutch's Guitar Hospital

I had Wild Dutch work on my guitar years ago and would never go again…read more I told the owner up front on the phone that I wanted my 8 string guitar's intonation adjusted, pickup that I supplied installed, brass nut that I supplied filed and installed, but that I would need it done within 2 weeks as my band was about to record in the studio. I explicitly said that I could wait until later to do all this but that if they had the bandwidth I'd rather do it before recording. I was told they could. It took 2 months. First, they said that everything was so complicated because it was an 8 string, so it was going to take longer. This isn't some kind of fanned fret guitar or some exotic bridge, it's a cheap Ibanez RG8 with a fixed bridge. This is the easiest kind of guitar to intonate, regardless of the addition of two more strings. Second, the owner said that the brass nut wasn't going to be able to be filed because brass was "extremely hard", even though brass is an extremely soft metal. He said he was going to destroy all his files and that I'd need to buy him a new set. He strongarmed me into going with a Graph Tech graphite nut instead. I later took a bass guitar to another tech to get a blank brass nut filed and installed and the tech at that shop laughed at what John from Wild Dutch said to me about brass nuts. Other guitar tech said brass is soft and easy to cut, not much more work at all. Third, the guitar tech who was tasked by the owner with installing my Lace X-Bar pickup was completely baffled on how to physically insert it into the correctly sized neck pickup cavity, despite the fact that I had installed a matching Lace Deathbar in the bridge cavity already. He said it didn't fit and that he needed to buy a router and make a larger hole for the pickup to fit. I was flabbergasted at how he thought this but he was so insistent and wouldn't respond to reason. He supposedly waited weeks for this equipment to come in and then when I called for an update he finally told me that he was trying to fit the pickup in upside down and that's why it didn't fit. If you've seen what a Lace pickup looks like, you know that this doesn't make any sense, especially when one was literally already installed in the guitar. Just complete incompetence. The only good part of my experience was the fact that the intonation was nearly perfect, a service that I've been able to get for other guitars and basses from other techs for 1/3rd the price and within a couple days, not months. Finally, I also didn't get my original neck pickup back after getting my guitar worked on, something I didn't realize for a couple months. It's an 8 string guitar so the pickups are unlikely to get confused with any other one laying around in a shop, so I called to let John know I never actually got my pickup back, and he was incredibly aggressive and accusatory. Imagine treating a customer like that at your own job. He really made sure to leave me with a terrible impression after I had bent over backwards to be understanding about the timeline and inflated service cost for my guitar. I recommend everyone to stay away from Wild Dutch Guitar Hospital.
